Chapter 57 - Chapter 57

Mathew's POV

I entered the pack house and chased the boys to bed then looked around and sighed. Jenny held Lilly and looked to my face.

"What…" She began but I gave her a kiss.

"I'll be back. I need to go…" I pointed down the hall and she nodded.

"Sure… but try not to make things worse." I nodded.

"Good thing we left Maggy with Danica…" I muttered and walked towards my grandmother's room. I knocked and heard her shout on the other side. With a slap I pressed the button and the door swung open to a bright room that had large windows down its length.

"Mathew my dear. What do I owe this pleasure too?" I rubbed my neck and looked up as Grandmother sat in her chair and flicked off the tv.

"I…" I sighed. "Bad news…" She nodded and placed the remote down then turned her full attention to me as I began to explain about the formula and the mole in the pack.

Alice sat her lips pursed together. I could see the cogs in her head turning as she digested everything I had told her. Slowly she began to nod.

"Someone was intentionally making Maggy and Lilly sick to effect Derick's performance…" She drummed her fingers on the table. "Someone close enough to Derick to know his plans and habits…" I loved watching as Grandmother worked through things. She was like a super-computer that you just typed in a few random facts, and she used the years of experience to come up with several ideas.

"How do you think we should handle this?" She snapped her head around to look at me.

"Quietly." She waved me closer. "There's one possibly two people working against us. If they suspect something's up, then they'll react drastically or go into hiding." I nodded. "Firstly, we need to keep a record of who enters the Alpha's quarters and find a way to monitor when the formula tub is tampered with." I grinned.

"Leave that to me. I know a way." She nodded.

"Look into the omegas and Epsilons first. If one of them is the culprit it'll be easy to deal with." A small glint went over her face and she pointed to a drawer. "Open the top drawer and take out the black box at the back." I did as she asked and she waved for me to open the box. Inside was a sent blocker.

"What…" She sighed.

"You said Derick was passed out at Danica's right?" I nodded. "I want you to put that on and check Derick's room… go into Lisa's things too." I shuddered and my eyes darted back to her. She held out a hand.

"If you don't feel comfortable then give it to me and I'll do it." I shook my head and slipped the scent blocker on.

"No… It's better to eliminate her as a suspect now…" She tilted her head.

"I was more worried that something else might have been planted in his apartment to harm him or the kids… but that would explain the cigarette lighter…" I frowned and left. "I'll work on the next stages of the plan." She called as I made my way into the apartment as Jenny got the boys into the shower. I sneaked into Derick's bedroom and began my search.

I made my way through the room clockwise looking in everything that might cause harm, even pulling the lowest draws out to make sure nothing was hidden below and testing all the products I could find. I even checked his bedding with a wince as I could smell what had been going on in there. Eventually I worked my way out and wandered into Maggy's room. I fiddled with everything I could get my hands on and then went into her cot but still nothing.

After checking her room again, I made my way into Lilly's room. She was still in the living room as Jenny chased the boys to get dried. I felt my way around her room.

Suddenly the teddy bear Danica won at the fair moved. I stifled my cry as I nearly jumped out my skin. Once my heart stopped racing I went to the bed and pulled the bear away. It smelt like Danica but the back side has a strange smell on it. I looked down at the pillows.

Jenny entered the room and jumped when she saw me.

"What the fuck!" she placed a hand to her chest. "Seriously!" She sniffed. "Have you got on a scent blocker?" I pulled up one of the pillows and frowned as I felt a lump in it like a small square pillow no bigger than the hard end of a shuttle cock. With a growl I pulled open the pillow and ripped the squishy thing out. It wasn't big but I don't think it should have been there. My breath caught in my throat.

"Fuck…" I looked to Jenny and showed her what I had found.

"What is that?" I shook my head.

"It's a bag filled with something…" I sniffed then jerked the bag away from my face with a grimace. "Fuck it's filled with dream herb and silver leaf." She looked to the pillow I had killed and covered her mouth.

"No wonder Lilly wasn't sleeping through the night." I nodded.

"Until the bear came…" I placed the bear back into the bed. "She must've been using it as a pillow…" Jenny sighed and turned away.

"This is getting worse by the minute." I watched as she sat heavily on the bean bag pillow and sighed loudly. I nodded.

"I'll check the boys room too." I went next door and felt my way through the pillows and found another two little bags. Slowly I moved the little bags around on my hands and shook my head. I left the apartment and went to my Grandmothers room. She was still up and holding her mobile to her ear. She gave me a glance and waved me in. I took a seat heavily in an armchair as she ended her call.

"You seem to have found something." I looked up and nodded as she put the phone down. I held out the little bags for her to take. She gave them a sniff and snarled.

"Someone is targeting the kids. They put dream herb and silver leaf in their pillows." She nodded and clenched her fingers around the little bags.

"This stuff caused nightmares… Get new pillows for them… we might need to find someone who can create enchantments…" I nodded but didn't hold out hope for the enchanter.

"That would be a very… expensive solution and might draw suspicion." She nodded.

"The only other thing would be to send them away if we can't protect them." I drew in a sharp breath.

"Hu…" I shook my head. "Ok… don't like that one… Let's stick with the enchantments." I rubbed my face then sighed angrily. "Ok change of subject." I looked up. "Have you ever heard of a werewolf surviving three rejections?" She gave me a puzzled smile and shook her head.
