Chapter 37 - Chapter 37

Jenny's POV

"I see…" I could hear him and Abigail on the other end of the phone.

"So, if things do get worse… Would you take her?" he laughed.

"Of course. She's my niece too… But you need to tell the alpha about this." I rubbed my eyes.

"If he knew about this he'd never let her go and things would get worse. I'm not even sure if she's going to live…" He sighed loudly.

"I've been in this little fealty pack too long… How about a different approach, why don't you take her on?" he sighed.

"That won't be easy. I have my hands full with the business and this dam investigation among other things. And if she's in the pack Derick will be a helicopter parent." I could hear him sigh.

"Ok… if things get so bad we'll take her, but please talk to the alpha and the former Luna. She's got the best idea how to handle this." I took a slow breath.

"It was she who told me to get rid of Maggy…" I heard him growl.

"Oh, ok… that changes things a little bit… I thought you had come up with the idea." I shook my head.

"I could never think like that." He sighed.

"Well, we'll do what's right for the pack." I heard someone behind me and nodded.

"Thank you."

"Love you little sis, and don't wait too long between calls." I hung up and sighed.

"Mathew if you have a question then ask it. Don't just skulk around like that." He grunted and slipped down behind me wrapping his arms around my waist.

"My grandmother thinks we have to take away Maggy to help Derick?" I nodded and he sighed. "I don't want to be around when that goes down…" I nodded.

"One of us will have to talk to him." He sighed.

"Well he's up now." I stood then saw something move into the alpha's apartment and I stood up quickly.

"I think your grandmother is about to do something…" We darted to the apartment and could hear Derick's pained shout.

Derick's POV

I awoke in my bed and could smell that the doctor had been here. The boys were standing by the foot of the bed and I sighed.

"Are you two alright?" They nodded then turned as a wheelchair squeaked into the room.

"You two out. I need to talk to your father." They left with a little hesitance.

"What's the problem?" She glared at me.

"You are." She came closer. "I have decided. It's Maggy or Lisa." I sat up and my head began to pound.

"What do you mean?" She gave me a look that chilled my bones.

"You're meant to be the alpha. That means you put your pack first. With Lisa distracting you all the time and Maggy hear you aren't able to work, and the pack is already beginning to fall apart. Therefore, I have decided to call in a few favours. If you do not pull yourself together and take care of the pack, I will have to get rid of Lisa, and send Maggy, Lilly, Aden and Kaden to another pack to be raised for their own good." I let a startled yell leave my mouth then looked up as Jenny and Mathew ran in.

"What the hell!" I looked to them and Jenny sighed. "You knew about this?" She shook her head.

"I knew we needed to make arrangements for Maggy but…" She was cut off.

"Enough!" We fell silent, Grandmother still held a lot of power over us. "If I must be the bad guy I will. I will not allow my grate grandbabies to be influenced by that woman and if you keep putting her above your kids and the pack then I will remove them so they can get the best." She turned her wheelchair around. "I will also not let the pack suffer." Her voice was strong, and her aura made me shiver.

"But they are the future of the pack." She turned.

"Exactly! They need you as father and Alpha but you have fallen so low that blood pressure and low blood sugar have knocked you on your but." I couldn't argue there this was an embarrassing situation for an alpha.

"I…" She waved me silent.

"I will give you time to think about it. If you haven't made an attempt to fix things by the boy's birthday next month then I will act." She gave me a hard stair. "Those with the power and position of Alpha have the obligation to look after others. You protect the pack, you live for the pack and you die for the pack." She wheeled out and the room fell silent as she called the twins to her. I looked to Jenny as she sat on the bed her face pale.

"She told me to get rid of Maggy when I came back. I was going to talk to you about it but you were unconscious on the floor." Mathew sighed.

"Just rest up. I have food being brought up and some of the Omegas are going to clean the apartment." I felt my heart race.

"But Lisa…" I saw the look on their faces. "Will… have to deal with the scent of other women in here…" They nodded. My mind went to the drawer next to my bed and my recent purchase. It was a good thing I had decided not to tell anyone or Grandmother might have already taken the kids away. Why was it so hard to think clearly when she was around? I know she's bad for the pack and that they really don't like her, but I keep making stupid mistakes. With a shake of my head I closed my eyes and let a long breath out as I began to worry about the fate of my pack and kids, and if my grandmother would really go so far as to send them to another pack to be raised.

Memories of playing with my cozens ran through my head. With a sharp breath I remembered Grandmother had already done this once before to my cozens. She had ordered Juliet and Liam to another pack because they were being abused by their drunkard father and my aunt was in no state to protect her kids, then one night he disappeared and no one ever found him. After five years they were allowed to return to their mother once she was back on her feet.

My worry began to consume my mind as the shadows in my room began to close in around me. The sound of people cleaning in the main room made my skin crawl.
