Aden's POV
We had been wondering around all morning but still hadn't found Danica's room. I'm certain aunty Jenny said the third floor and I'm beginning to suspect Kaden's nose is as weak as mine, but he insists he can use his wolf's ability's like the adults. I looked around, this is the third time we are making our way down this corridor and I don't smell her. It's strange but her sent seems to have faded since we first met her.
I stopped and watched as Kaden continued at the doors then looked around. A warrior limped past with his hand on his chest, he seemed beaten up. Wait, I know him. I waved at Kaden and pointed. He looked up at the warrior and we hurried after him as he made his way to the front door.
"That's Dean" I whispered to him. "He brought Danica here." Kaden's face lit up and he called out.
"Hay mister!" Dean stopped and looked down at us then held his hands up.
"Look, I don't want any more trouble." I frowned, Kaden seemed just as confused.
"Trouble?… No, we want to know which room Danica is in." He smirked.
"She's not in the pack house." He winced as he coughed. "You should ask your fathers permission before going near her." He sighed then heard a thundering voice. Dean winced slightly. "Oh… Fuck…" Dad came around the corner and looked at Dean.
"You… I have to talk to you about something…" Dad looked embarrassed and slightly confused. "Would you come to my office?" Dean nodded and we watched as he followed dad. I looked to my brother and we sneaked after them and listened against the door.
"Yes Alpha?" Dean sounded worried and dad held up his hands.
"I wanted to apologize for what happened… this morning…" He sighed and sat on his desk. "I… Didn't recognize you and thought you were an intruder." I frowned. Dad doesn't usually make these kinds of mistakes. "With the way things are at the moment…" Dean held up his hands.
"It's fine, you didn't kill me and I'm already healing." Dad sighed in relief.
"Your scent is different, and I don't think anyone recognized you until you shifted." My mind was wandering. Unlike my brother I was smarter than him. Why would dad attack a member of the pack and not be able to recognize his scent? I pondered then watched as my brother made his way to the doors outside.
"True Alpha, even Shawn got a few bites in." I heard a sigh.
"I'll need to have a meet and greet with this woman." My ears picked up. They were talking about Danica. I could smell her on Dean. But why would her scent make dad attack? I don't think he knows either. They spoke a little more and I heard she was in one of the cabins by the lake.
I slipped away quietly darting outside and pulled my brother after me with a grin on my face.
"What are you doing? We can't go around every cabin to look for her. That'll take all day and we'll be chased if we worry dad." I nodded and looked to my brother.
"She's at Red springs. I heard dad and Dean talking about it." He grinned and together we set off running quickly over the training field then out into the woods.
As we ran through the woods, we could smell cooking. Someone was making bacon. My mouth watered, I love bacon… we came to the back of the cabins and looked around. Kaden pointed and we made our way to the end cabin. It was the only one that had someone still in it. As we crept towards the back deck we could hear someone singing. My heart skipped a beat and tears filled my eyes. That song… Mum sang it to us as babies. She called it Lullaby for a stormy night. Kaden looked at me and a puzzled look came over his face. It seems he didn't remember it.
"What are you two doing out here?!" I jumped as Danica stood on the deck a plate in her hand. I was so lost in my thoughts I hadn't realized she had come out. She wore a loose-fitting t-shirt and fluffy shorts to her knees. I couldn't help myself and ran to her, tears running down my face and I sobbed. She dropped the plate to the table and her arms came around my shoulders.
"Sweetheart, what's the matter?" I couldn't talk as my sobbing was too strong.
Danica's POV
I felt alive after the shower and pulled my wet hair back. I was dancing around in the kitchen singing my heart out to the variety of music that played on my MP3 player. Yes, I still had one of those and it worked well and this way I didn't have to use my mobile data or memory to store the vast amount of music I listened to.
I pulled the Bacon off the heat and placed it onto a slice of bread, then put my headphones to the table as I went outside. Immediately I sniffed and I could smell the boys… Why were they out here and I heard a sob. Fuck, did one of them get hurt. I looked and saw them a few meters away from the house.
"What are you two doing out here?!" I called. They both looked startled but one of them shot to his feet and came running throwing his arms around me and sobbing uncontrollably. My heart melted and I placed the food down and hugged him. "Sweetheart, what's the matter?" He seemed too distraught to speak. I looked to the other one and nodded. "Kaden, What's wrong with Aden?" He shrugged.
"He just started crying." Kaden jumped up onto the deck his eyes looking over to the food then to his brother. "I thought he might have been stung by a scorpion or something, but he usually just squeals then gets up." I nodded and looked at the food.
"Do you guys want some bacon?" I saw Kaden nodding and felt Aden nod against my hip. "Ok," I picked Aden up and put him in one of the metal chairs. "I'll make some more. For now you two can share this." I split the bacon between the two pieces of bread then went into the kitchen and prepared more food.
