It was nearly two hours later. Earlier after I had finished cooking, I had phoned Jenny to let her know the boys were here. She had been annoyed and apologized but I said it was ok and mentioned the tears. We agreed they could stay as she was planning to swing by later. After a little conversation and I mentioned the grill and what a waist it would be to let it sit there unused, we had decided to throw a BBQ and invite some of the pack over.
It was still warm and the sky patchy with clouds as the boys giggled and drank cola straight from the can. I sighed. It was good they were both happy again. I would need to investigate later what had set Aden off. I placed my drinks can down and sighed. Time to test Rodger's theory.
"You said last night the Banshee isn't afraid of anyone." They both looked at me and nodded. "Is there someone or something you're afraid of?" Kaden looked to his can in almost a silent protest kind of way, while Aden bit at his lip and nodded.
"Dad might lose the Pack… Some of the warriors were talking about it." I gave them a small nod.
"Why do they think that?" Aden shrugged.
"He doesn't go to training and yesterday he fainted…" I nodded.
"Your dad won't let anything happen to you." I saw the looks on their faces.
"But even Nana said she was going to send us to another pack if dad doesn't get his act together…" I nodded and sighed.
"Is she who your scared of?" They shook their heads and looked at each other.
"No… not her…" Kaden waved a hand at Aden.
"We can't say…" I nodded and smirked.
"Why can't you say?" Aden looked to Kaden as he shot him a glare and muttered at him.
"She'll get mad…" I nodded.
"Did she specifically tell you not to tell me?" I saw them thinking.
"She said not to tell anyone in the pack." I grinned, I knew this would be bending the rules a little but it was worth it.
"You do know I'm not in the pack yet, right?" I could see them looking to each other as if figuring something out.
"I don't know…" Aden began but Kaden slapped a hand to the table.
"It's Lisa…" He looked to me. "Don't tell dad." I raised my hands.
"I won't tell him." Kaden nodded.
"She's mean. She keeps sending us to our room for no reason and makes us do all the house chores and get her things from the fridge…" Aden nodded.
"And she says bad things to Lilly… and doesn't change Maggy's diaper… I…" He closed his mouth and gripped his can tightly. I waited and Kaden nodded.
"She's nice when dad's around and was nice when we first met her but…" He shuddered. "I heard her talking on the phone… I don't know what it was about but she started saying nasty things to me and… since then she's been nasty." Aden fidgeted with his fingers.
"Dad scares me too… when Lisa is here. It's like he's a completely different person..." I frowned.
"But she took you to the city the other day." He nodded and his fingers clenched together tightly.
"Weird…" He sighed. "I don't like her…" He gave me a look. "You should be our new mum." I choked on my drink.
"What? Why?" They both grinned.
"Because we like you, Aunty Jenny and uncle Mat like you… so dad should like you too." I nodded.
"It takes more than liking someone to get that close to them…" There was a knock on the door, and I heard someone enter.
"Oh no, you fed them. Now they'll never leave you alone." I looked to Mathew as he held a large bag in his hand and sighed loudly. "You two are in big trouble…" He tried to hide his smirk, but it failed. I could see his eyes darken then he sighed and turned to me. "I hope they weren't too much trouble for you?" I shook my head.
"There was some tears but after that we had fun. They're wanting to spend the night out here, but I told them they would have to talk to their dad first." Mathew nodded and sighed then saw the guilty grins on their faces.
"What are you two up to?" They giggled and Kaden pointed at me.
"We think Danica would be a better mum than Lisa." I watched as Mathew nodded and placed the bags to the island in the kitchen.
"You don't say." They nodded and he rubbed a hand to his chin. "I think you might be right but don't have much of a say in the matter." Kaden frowned.
"You do, you're the Beta." He burst out laughing and shook his head.
"Nope that goes above my pay grade." He gave me a grin. "Although it would be a nice dream, what do you think? Luna?" I shuddered.
"I haven't even met the man and now the three of you are trying to marry me off." I shook my head. "Besides I have enough people that I'm… playing with." I saw the boys frown.
"You can play with dad. He loves games." Mathew bit his finger and turned away. "What?" Kaden looked at his reaction. I cleared my throat.
"I think it's time to prepare for the BBQ tonight." The boys grinned and nodded as I looked to the grill. "As long as I don't have to clean up all by myself afterwards." Mathew laughed and shook his head.
"No worries about that." He looked to his nephews and sighed. "I guess we already have guest turning up or are you the help?" They jumped to their feet and giggled.
"We want to help!" They began to run around like little bullets and bounced off each other and Mathew a few times as he walked back into the kitchen. I sighed and looked to the quiet forest my peace was shattered. With a grunt I got up and cleared the table then heard the boys calling me. I wandered into the house to help get things ready for tonight.
