Chapter 36 - Chapter 36

Derick's POV

I was trying to feed Maggy, but she was throwing another tantrum and had been sick a few times. Lilly was screaming too and had thrown her food all up the wall. Thankfully the boys were out of my hands for a little while as my grandmother took them down to the training yard and was supervising there training with some of the other young warriors.

My head was pounding, and I was feeling wiped out after listening to my grandmother all day nag about how terrible my choice in women was. Maggy screamed and turned her face away yet again. Her formula was cold, and her food had been out of the fridge for a while now.

Mathew came up the stairs. I could hear him first, then as he approached the door I could smell him and someone else… The door opened and I looked up as he held up two large stuffed toys and grinned.

"I come bearing gifts!" He looked around at the wall and nodded. "Modern art at it's finest. We shall call it tempers of a young girl." I growled and he walked to Lilly as she cried and sniffed her little face pale and covered in red blotches.

"Where did you get those?" I growled and sniffed. My wolf shuddered. The same strange scent that was on the boys was on these toys. It was faint and I couldn't get a proper smell of it, but my skin began to break out in goose bumps.

"Which would you like baby girl?" He held them out for Lilly to see.

"She'll want the unicorn… what?" I frowned as she grabbed the teddy bear. "She always goes for pink… why's the brown bear so special?" Mathew shrugged.

"Danica and Dean won them at the fairground. They didn't have a use for them so they thought the girls would like them." I nodded and watched as Lilly stopped crying and cuddled the bear almost as big as she was.

"Well, if I can just get them to eat now I can put them to bed." I winced and touched my head. This headache was proving to be a bad one. Mathew sighed as he placed the unicorn down then took Lilly from her chair.

"I'll feed her. You just focus on Maggie for now." I nodded and watched as he rummaged through the cupboards then sighed. "Not much here… I'll go downstairs and get something from the kitchen. It's not ready but I can use my charm." He grinned and left.

I turned my attention back to Maggy and she began to spit up the formula I had managed to get her to eat. Slowly I reached for the cloth then the world went black.

Jenny's POV

I had arrived home to find Aden and Kaden taking part in the kids training and the former Luna sitting in her wheelchair at the side of the feild. She shot me a look and I came over.

"How are you today?" She sighed.

"As I always am. You need to knock some sense into that brother-in-law of yours." I sighed.

"I'm sorry but Derick is impossible to deal with at the moment. With the girls as they are." She nodded and a grim look came over her face.

"You might have to get rid of the little one." I felt a knot in my stomach wrenching at my heart.

"Pardon?" I asked in a sharp whisper, and she sighed.

"She's always sick… and the pack is suffering from the lack of attention the Alpha is showing towards them." She crossed her arms. "We might need to think about sending Maggy away to another pack… I don't want to since she's blood after all but…" I nodded and sighed.

"I'll… I'll look into it." She nodded.

"Remember the pack is looking to you for guidance until we get a Luna." She narrowed her eyes. "And one that is worthy of our pack not some whelp that won't stay." She turned her wheelchair away and went inside as the twins finished up for today.

"Aunty Jenny!" They squealed and ran around me. "Did you see us? We were the best!" I nodded and ruffled their hair with a grin.

"Sure did. You two are doing fantastic out there." Aden nodded and held his little fists out.

"We want to make the pack great again." I sucked at my lip.

"Who have you been talking to?" They looked to each other then ran inside and darted up the stairs. "Oh no you don't!" I chased after them then saw Mathew with Lilly.

"Those two rascals up to no good again?" He grinned. I nodded and continued the chase up towards their room.

"And they'll get the back of my hand if they don't talk." We thundered up the stairs and I grabbed Kaden and he squeaked as Aden made a hasty escape further up the stairs.

"I only said what I hear everyone else saying." He looked up with watery eyes.

"Who and what have they been saying?" He sniffed.

"Dad's gone soft and we need to step up our game in order to stop Mathew taking over the pack." I blinked in bewilderment. "We don't want to be kicked out when Uncle Mathew takes over…" He began to sniff and I shook my head.

"Don't be ridiculous…" I began, but a panicked squeak from above caught my attention as Aden was looking down at us.

"Aunty Jenny, dad is on the floor!" I let go of Kaden and darted up and into the Alpha's apartment. Derick was on the floor and Maggy was in her highchair her little face very pail and her movements had become sluggish. I hesitated then went for Maggy first. With a wipe I cleared her airways of the build-up. Once she was breathing properly I placed her to her mat then checked on Derick. He was breathing but had gone white.

'Doctor Richard, I need you to the Alpha's apartment. He's collapsed and Maggy is not doing well either.'

'I'll be right over.' I grunted as I tugged Derick over and put him into the recovery position and waited.

Mathew returned to the apartment with Lilly and the doctor in tow. He looked around and shook his head as he pulled the boys to the side.

"I was only gone a few minutes…" I sighed and watched as Richard worked on Derick.

"He's been pushing himself again… wasn't he in the office all morning?" Mathew nodded.

"Office catching up on pack reports, then he actually did some training and has been complaining about a headache all day. While trying to look after these two." We both turned as Richard sat back on his heels.

"He seems fine. Just exhausted." He waved a hand to Mathew. "If we don't do something soon he's going to wear himself out completely." Mathew placed Lilly to the floor and she walked to her brothers. I followed behind as the two of them dragged Derick to his bed and tossed him in.

"What happened?" I asked. Richard sighed as he pulled the covers over him then looked around at the state of the room and the rest of the apartment.

"He's got low blood sugar added to the stress of running the pack and the kids. His blood pressure is also a little higher than I would like… But…" He sighed. "There isn't much I can do for him. I can take Maggy to the hospital, but I can't have him hanging around all day." I nodded.

"I need to make a call…" I left the room and walked out to the far end of the floor, before I pulled my phone out. "Hi Josh."

"Little sis! Long time no hear! What's up?" I sighed.

"I need some advice." He chuckled on the other end of the phone.

"Yeah, sure. If I can help then ask away." I took a breath and began to explain about the pack situation and the future of Maggy.
