Chapter 24 - Chapter 24

I was cold and growing stiff when I awoke. The little alcove I had stayed in most of the early morning was not the nicest of places to be especially since I was now fully grown and had a bag stuffed inside it with me. I pulled my phone out as I felt it vibrate.

"Shit…" I answered. "Hi, Jenny. How's things?" She snorted.

"I was going to say fantastic but you seem not to be able to answer your door." I looked to the time and frowned.

"Were we meeting up today?" She sighed.

"Well, yes. We made plans for a trip to the office, you were going to look over the accounting books for me and then we were going to have a girls day." She grunted. "Especially since I was babysitting last night."

"You were what?" I slipped part of my body out to look around. The sun was up and it looked like another good day ahead. Better yet there was not a single person nearby.

"You know those tickets we got to see the fighting? Well, I wasn't to impressed and gave my ticket to Derick but it turns out that someone called the Banshee was fighting." I slipped out of my hiding spot and grabbed my bag. "She's like some awesome fighter. And is the favoured fighter of our pack. So as a big favour I looked after the Alpha's kids." I carefully crawled over the wall and out of the cave. The sun light felt so good. I stood up and felt my back cracking back into place. With a few strange, staggered steps I began to walk back to my apartment.

"You didn't want to go and see the fight?" She sighed.

"Well, just between you and me I don't like this fighting thing. It's too bloody for my tastes. Don't get me wrong the skill level of the fighters is astounding but I'd much rather soak in a hot tub with some chilled wine and a bowl of fresh fruits." I nodded.

"I'm on my way back to my apartment now. I went out for an early morning run." I heard her muttering. "You can let yourself in. You know where I keep the spare key." There was a sound of a door opening. "I won't be long."

"Ok see you shortly. Do you still take two sugars in your coffee?" I laughed

"Hell yes." I heard the kettle being turned on and then the phone went dead. I looked to the screen and smirked. She had hung up on me.

Back at my apartment I slipped inside and tossed my bag behind the sofa so Jenny could not see it. I walked into the kitchen area and waved.

"Hello," I grabbed the coffee on the table and took a sip. "So the boy's had fun at the match last night?" She smirked and put down the magazine she was reading.

"Oh, Mat couldn't shut up about it. All through breakfast he was going on and on." She sniffed.

"Did you get hurt? I can smell blood." I frowned and looked down.

"Don't think so… Oh." The wound that Hel had inflicted on my thigh was bleeding, the strange shape had indeed made it difficult to heal and my strange sleeping arrangement didn't help as it popped the waterproof dressing open. "I must have hit it when I fell at the pond." She nodded.

"Is that why you smell of rotting fish?" I nodded and stepped towards my bedroom.

"Can you believe it? I went for a run and not only tripped and hurt my leg but landed in somethings leftovers. Back after a shower." She smirked and went back to the magazine.

I picked out a pair of long shorts and a t-shirt with a high neck before running a shower and scrubbing myself clean. With a bottle of antiseptic I pulled the old dressing off then scrubbed at the wound and frowned.

'Fuck… This one's going to leave a distinct scar.' I sighed and cleaned the swollen wound then finished with my shower.

The inside of my medicine cabinet in my bathroom was like a mini chemist with an assortment of dressings and ointments. Quickly I saw what I needed and pulled the little box out. With cotton swabs I dried the area and checked the paper stitches that looked like a square with a cross in the center.

I reached into the medicine cabinet again and pulled out a large dressing and slapped it over the stitches then dressed making sure my shorts covered the dressing.

"Jenny, you ready to go?" I asked and pulled on a light hoodie. With a glance in the wall mirror I was satisfied that my wounds could not be seen. Making my way to the kitchen I could here her putting down her magazine.

"Yes," I heard the seat move over the floor and the water running as she washed her mug. In the kitchen I drank the last of my coffee then grabbed a muffin from the little plastic container and offered one to Jenny. She shook her head and we walked out the apartment to her car.

We entered the office and I looked around as Jenny flashed her ID at the security desk then led me to an elevator. The place certainly looked impressive with large glass windows and marble floors. A minimalist approach with gold highlights.

"So… what does this company actually do?" Jenny shrugged as she checked her make-up.

"Security. We provide a wide range of security features to all sorts of clientele. From a basic set up for a low-risk environment like a concert to high-risk, life in danger, personal escorts and bodyguards." I nodded.

"Is there a lot of need for this?" She nodded.

"Our biggest clientele is the governor of the city and some of his officials." She smirked. "Ever seen the public broad casts with the heavies in the background?" I nodded. "Those are our men." The doors opened and she led me through a long corridor that had various rooms opening up on each side. I peeked into a few of the rooms to see some were meeting rooms and others were large office areas with six desks in each.

We entered a large open area filled with vending machines and a hundred desks where people sat working. She pointed to a room at the far end.

"In here, this is my office." She pushed open a door to a reception area then walked through to her actual office. Inside she placed her bag to the desk then looked around and grabbed a heavy looking box. A bonus to being a werewolf she could lift heavy things that a normal human would struggle with.

"Are these the books you want me to go over?" She nodded and began to place the books out.

"Yeah, they go back five years." She sighed. "I don't need an in depth analysis or anything, just a quick before and after." I grabbed the book with the oldest date.

"So… compare what you were making to what you are making now?" She nodded.

"And if possible see if there are any cuts we can make. We seem to be hemorrhaging money and no one can explain why." I nodded and sat at her desk then frowned.

"Wouldn't your accounting department head be better at this than me?" She shrugged.

"He's always busy or doesn't explain it so I can understand what is going on." I nodded.

"You want spoon fed?" She nodded and sat on the long stylish sofa that was pressed to the side of the room.

"Yes please," I nodded and flicked through the book.

"One spoon fed report coming up." I settled down at her desk to work.
