She rushed toward them and they were alone. With Lovota nowhere in sight.
"Where's your guardian?"
"He's not awake at the moment,"
"It's very urgent," He said harshly and the leaves kept falling and she picked up her skirt rushing to the bedroom.
"Bernard!"
He was already seated on the edge and he pulled on his glasses.
"Lovota is dead, her body needs to be recovered from the infirmary,"
Jet looked appalled, "Are you sure it's not another one?"
"She's the only Lovota we know," Bernard countered.
She glanced at Bernard, his skin was already pale, and his eyes were rimmed with red lines and dark circles, his gloom vanished as they escorted him.
She pushed back inside and searched for Lovota's portraits everywhere, even her clothes were gone. He already knew that she was going to die.
The house was empty and things weren't going to be the same.
She didn't understand these new omens.
The gashes on the grass grew and curved, it spelt the name GIA.
"I...have no idea who goes by that name,"
Bernard had returned home at night, he sat back on the couch. It seemed like the wrong time to ask him.
"Who's Gia?" She asked weakly in a dark place by a corner. "Just answer me and I'll be out of your way," Her voice was laced with sadness.
"It was a long time ago, you were hanging on your mother's side. She was hurt. I asked if everything was alright and she said not to worry. Indeed, I was scared because she was leaving you behind, she would be putting your life in danger if she took you along."
"You told me she was dead,"
"I didn't mean to, I thought that was the only way to make you stay."
"You wrecked my life. L_" She swallowed her words and refrained from calling her name. "What was she running from?"
"Him," He said with terror, she saw he was so dazed that she had to shake him off of it. "Who is he? I need to know, Bernard!"
A tear dropped from his eye lost in thought. "No,"
"You have to let me go, where can I find her, or anyone who at least cares about me," Her own tears started to spill.
He caught a glimpse of the necklace "D_did anyone see you wear that?" He said counting on his words and he brought himself out. "Jet!"
She was shaking when she thought of Jackson.
"Go! Get out!" He hurled her outside and she started to run as the wind could carry her.
The door broke down when he charged in.
"I've been training that bitch's pup, for years, where's the girl?"
"I don't know,"
He was in front of him immediately "Don't lie to me, unless you're ready to join your cow in the grave,"
"The Alpha will be disappointed in you,"
His eyes turned red "I am the Alpha," He headbutted him to his chair, Bernard was stout, it would take more than a few punches to break him.
"I gave Lovota a choice to live miserably or die trying, I thought she hated the tramp and her witch daughter,"
"I'll never tell you, you're a monster."
"I don't like my heart broken twice, you're a good man, Bernie," His claws grew out.
"You're a good man who made a very bad choice," His claws dug into his windpipe and he pulled it out.
Bernard slumped, he scoffed at his killing streak and ran outside into the dark windy, field. His foot shifted from the claw on the grass.
Jet ran through the grove, she shouldn't have left him alone, she bleached at her bare neck and scrambled to the exit. "Zev! Zev help!" She screamed and a sentinel shoved her back to the entry.
"Where do you think you're going?" He cackled shoving her back and she jerked his head down to knee him in the face. The other wolves growled grabbing her arms on each side and Jackson slapped her.
"You call Zev like he knows you,"
Jet grunted when he clasped her jaw to force her to look at him. She took a risk doing that and it was already too late, he was the only one she could think of.
"She's working for him," He said to Ray who arrived and her eyes watered shaking her head.
"I am not! Please, He's done something to Bernard_"
She coughed when he smacked her.
"How dare you? How else would you have still been alive!?"
"Perhaps the Alpha would know how to handle this,"
"What? Banish her? What if Efilian is not here to make a decision? Then what?"
"Jackson, when did you become so excited to become the Alpha? How do you know what's best for her?"
"You won't understand, it's best if you appreciate your place as a Gamma," He retorted.
"Efilian's still alive and I'm sure that he has better judgement,"
He touched his forehead and his hand settled on his shoulder. "You're right, we both want what's best for the pack, I just think we should be more careful about trusting these..." He scoffed "I've said too much. Take her away,"
She whimpered as they dragged her through the streets, most were indoors with only torches to guide them to the packhouse in the trees, and the lights from the windows were conspicuous in the night. The people stopped by whispering.
She pulled herself up, shivering at the foyer but the salutary were up and about, she gaped around, she could vividly hear their utterances.
Efilian stepped out, his legs wobbled as he held a cane sauntering one step at a time, his hand rested on a vessel. Taking his time to recuperate, he did feel a jolt on his waist as he walked.
"You should not be putting so much stress on yourself," Leloo, his Luna said sternly. Her thick hair was knotted up and she wore a white dress with a purple pleat at the centre of her petticoat.
"I've merely started, I wouldn't know I could walk if I didn't try," He said.
"Now you are starting to act your age,"
"I've realized that is not such a bad thing," He chuckled and she assisted him to the foyer where Jet slumped on the floor.
"Help her up,"
"We planned to keep her that way," Beta Jackson informed.
"Bernard and Lovota are dead,"
Her eyes watered at the news and she glared at Jackson shaking her head.
"So young," Leloo said deeply hurt.
"Why did you bring her here?"
"She poisoned her guardian. That save was probably orchestrated to make you look good, you knew Efilian would accept you with open arms."
"I've done nothing wrong, it was him,"
"You dare betray your own superior? I will teach you a lesson that you'll never forget,"
"Are you going to kill me just like you did to Gia?" She challenged.
Beta Jackson knew better than to blurt out something he might regret later. He clenched his jaw.
The sentinels fidgeted at that question and Ray's eyes darkened.
Efilian's cane shook taking a closer look_Gia, of course. Those eyes, her behaviour, she had her mother's spirit.
"We are wasting time, she needs to be questioned, unfortunate that those two selfless people had to die on the same day."
"Shall we summon the Elders?"
