TWO WEEKS LATER...
I sat at my usual cafe' after two weeks of mopping around the house. That place reminded me too much of her, it had her scent everywhere and she was there since the first time I moved in I had had the idea of moving. What if she came back though? And if she did she wouldn't find me there? But then again she hadn't said that she would come back she had made that very clear.
"Kingsley you're doing it again." He looked up and noticed Valerie was looking up at him and he looked away, taking a sip of his milkshake.
"Doing what again?" He asked barely looking her way.
"She left I know that must be painful, and frankly, you're scaring the crap out of me. You can't keep on like this, its going to kill you and she isn't coming back you need to let go." He glanced at her and she saw a glimmer of a tear in his eyes and reached for his hand which he violently pulled away. She was too shocked to say anything and then his eyes caught on hers and he immediately closed them like he regretted everything.
"I'm so sorry, you startled me. Your hand is cold, hers was..." He stopped and slumped back on his chair and folded his arms over his chest.
"Did you love her that much, that you'd throw your life away in her absence? Did she even care for you?" She asked and she could see anger flicker at the corner of his eye.
"You have no damn right to talk about what she felt. If you have nothing meaningful to say on her part than don't say anything at all!" He said and the place around him stopped buzzing and all eyes were on him. He couldn't careless and picked his bag to leave, Valerie followed him outside apologizing to one of the waiters for the trouble.
"That might be harder than you think." She said when she caught up with him. He stopped by the roadside and turned to her. With sadness in his expression.
"If you'd quit speaking in parables that would do us some good, Val."
"I watched you get sick over her. You have had nightmares since the night she left. You're grades in your classes are dropping and the admin is complaining about it. Cash is worried that you don't pick up the phone or even go out. You look like hell, Kings. And I can't watch you wither away when I'm standing right here."
"What are you...you know what...forget it."
"I like you, Kingsley." She starts to say and his eyes widen, clearly hit by the shock of her words. He steps back, and crotches down holding his head in his hands.
"I can't do this, I can't, I'm sorry. I won't say 'its me not you' but really I'd be lying."
"What..."
"I can't see anyone else, but her. My mind is completely full of her. You're an amazing friend and I respect you for that, but I can't be with someone now or anyone or in the near future. And if that doesn't fit to your agenda then I don't know what to tell you." She kept silent for the past few minutes and nodded in agreement with her.
"I know, but I couldn't keep it to myself anymore. I understand, really." He looked up and it didn't take him much to frown.
"You're crying." He said and she gasped, quickly turning away.
"No, I'm not." Her voice getting shakier.
"I'm so sorry Val, I really am."
"If things had turned out differently would you still have loved her?" He nodded in her direction and then bit his bottom lip.
"Of coarse, I'm certain... I-" then he stops and looks over her shoulder and his jaw drops at who he saw. He quickly left and ran towards the figure. But what he finds isn't what he expected.
