CHAPTER FOUR:

There were eyes glowing in the dark, growls emanating from the shadows, a beast, from what i could make out its fangs were at least a foot long, its eyes met my own at equal height, it took a step forward snarling, its head was now almost visible, I was scared out of my wits, my, fear and panic found their appropriate position on my face, clearly there was no way I could outrun it even if I tried, I searched around hoping to find a anything I could use to defend myself, my eyes darted this way and that in a desperate struggle until my eyes landed on a half broken branch about than three foot long, it was pretty useless against a beast of that nature, but I gathered what little courage I could muster along with my measly strength, scrambled to my feet and, and made a mad dash for my new found hope, and found myself facing something I was nowhere near fit to be its opponent.

I let my weight be handled by the cedar wood tree which I leaned against because my legs were too busy quivering with fear to do their job, I held my stick as bravely as I could fully prepared to strike it as hard as possible, I half expected it to pounce at me and rip me to shreds and half expected it to turn n run off but it just stood there staring at me, "come on! Come at me! What are you waiting for?" I screamed and shouted desperately hoping it would either get it over with fast but it just stood there silent, staring at me from the shadows almost although it was waiting for me, I took a step towards it slowly, uncertainly I dropped my weapon and it took a step towards me cautiously, it seemed to be thinking, deciding whether it could trust me, it seemed to be just as unsure as I was. A brilliant ray of light broke the darkness and I saw it clearly, what I had mistaken to be a wild, blood thirsty beast was actually something else, something beautiful, it's aura was so pure and majestic, a genuine giant black wolf, its fur shone in the sun.

Ring! Ring! Ring! The alarm clock went off at six A.M just as I'd intended, I woke up taking in my surroundings still groggy from sleep, I realized it was just a dream, probably induced by the aspirins I'd taken before bed, it was a relief to realize that i wasn't in the woods but was safe in my bed right where I was supposed to be and there was no giant black wolf, just me, not that I was afraid but it definitely would have been freaky to wake up with a six foot tall wolf in my bedroom. It was a Sunday so my parents weren't going to work, I tip toed down the stairs, got a quick snack, grabbed my hiking bag and got a few supplies majorly not forgetting kern-mantle ropes for climbing and repelling towards the cave. I couldn't risk using the door so a few minutes later I found myself outside via my bedroom window, this time finding it was much easier as I wasn't just wandering about aimlessly, a few minutes later I was faced with the trunk and what remained of the branch that had betrayed me the previous night, choosing to give the trunk a chance to redeem itself I placed my trust in its strength knotted my line around it, tugged at it a few times to ensure the line was secure before starting my descent jerking, heading down this way was a whole lot easier than having my body greet every side of the rough terrain. And there it was just as I'd hoped it would be, I dropped my line and headed in. the sunlight did little to illuminate the dark interior but fortunately I had a flash light with me, it felt cold, spooky and I wasn't exactly sure of what I was looking for but I knew that I would know it once I saw it.

The cave wasn't that big about fifty square feet, taking a quick glance around there was nothing here, it was completely empty and I'd just wasted my time by coming here, I wasn't sure of what I was expecting hut I know that it wasn't a totally empty cave, there had to be something there, something to make all this worth it, I took another glance around before heading for the exit, my heart full of disappointment, doubt, worry and rage, it just wasn't possible I took a final glance and something caught my eye, something I hadn't noticed earlier, a black marking that seemed aged and covered with dust, I walked over towards it studying the marking, wiping the dust off, drawings, hieroglyphics, I just hadn't noticed it earlier, I just wasn't looking hard enough, the walls of the cave they were covered with hieroglyphics that overtime had been covered with dust and dirt, they were all over the place, in a frenzy I dashed from wall to wall, my movements were all over the place trying to decipher what they meant and at the same time being as careful as possible not to damage them in any way, these hieroglyphics were probably centuries old, they'd been here possibly before Strucker town was Strucker town, probably long before, maybe centuries before there was any town or settlement around here.

Something wasn't right, I could clearly see and understand what these drawings meant, but it wasn't right, if what these drawings meant were really real, then it defied science and logic but it couldn't be right, the black circle that stood above everything obviously symbolized the moon, the people, they were wolves, werewolves! They lived amongst the people, protecting them; those blessed by the spirits with the ability to shift their form were seen as heroes, they were hailed and highly respected, they protected the clan from invaders, they communed with the spirits and they fought something else, something that lurked within the darkness, creatures, creatures were born of fire and darkness they fed on those weaker than themselves. The clan, was about to fall to these hordes of hell when she came, the spirit of the moon, she blessed a child that lay in the womb of the chieftain's wife, after the child was born, she was trained and guided by the strongest warriors of the tribe and she grew to become a warrior unlike any other, eighteen winters later she took her true form for the first time, her strength, speed and abilities surpassed that of the other clans men, she became the first true alpha, the one who led the tribe to vanquish the hordes of hell, the one with the blessings of the moon, limitless strength and power, the true leader, I couldn't explain it, couldn't understand it but as I studied the ancient texts it was almost like I could see it in my mind, like I was in it, a part of me had lived it before.
