CHAPTER SIX:
Six feet three, black hair, brown eyes, tough bulging muscles, he seemed to be about nineteen or twenty, his physique clearly supporting his age, in the words of her only friend back home, Talia, he's a total hottie. Unfortunately the sightseeing was cut short as we drove past him before I had a chance to get a closer look at him. We drove through the heart of the small town which was livelier than I'd expected, continuously driving for a few minutes till we finally a turned from the main highway into Edna lane. We drove past a few houses until we stopped at a pretty looking white house that caught my eye and one thing that I'd grown to love about shear falls was the fact that humanity, in the form of developers sunk its razor sharp fangs into it yet.
There it was my new home with beautiful green nature all around it, our house was the last on Edna lane and immediately afterwards were the woods with the edge just a few yards away. The house seemed nice but I couldn't shake off the feeling that we were being watched as we unpacked what little of our luggage remained in the car and settled in. "Luxmore laboratories really didn't spare any expense to ensure the comfort of its new lead geneticist" said my dad checking out the fully stocked refrigerator, "I really don't get why you chose to transfer here, We were perfectly fine back home, it's a really nice place but we didn't need this." My mom slid her soft, warm hands into my own and looked at me reassuringly, "You won't get it Lunar but at the moment it's what best for all of us, For this family, look there are certain things you won't understand right now, certain decisions that you won't agree with and a whole lot of times you're going to feel like we hate you but just remember that every choice we make, we make them because we love you and we're just trying to protect you".
My mom had a certain calm and reassuring tone that seemed to just wipe the anger and frustration away, "hey, you know what, why don't you go check this place out, your dad and I will take care of things here", "no, mom it's fine, I'll do that later", "no, I insist, besides your dad and I need some alone time or would you prefer to watch us kiss, uncontrollably, all over the house?" she asked sarcastically, "no!" I replied, laughing awkwardly, the very thought of it awkward and unsettling in my mind. "Then go", said Mrs. Anderson shoving me out the door, "and remember to have fun!", "I will mom".
Biking through the small town felt good, I also made sure to keep note of various street signs to make sure I don't get lost on my first day in town. Finally something caught my eye, the shear falls town library which was just a really, really far stone throw away from the town hall, the town library was built in seventeen sixty three, the architecture and design also made it absolutely obvious, it was actually much bigger inside with over a hundred and fifty rows of shelves lined neatly, a reading section and another section for internet research.
"Can I help you?" asked the librarian, "yes, yes actually my name is Lunar Anderson" I replied unconsciously, "nice to meet you Lunar, I'm Jessica" she replied shaking my hand with a rather strong grip, "I'm guessing you're new in town" replied the librarian in a friendly tone, "yes, that I am", "well in that case let me be the first t welcome you to shear falls", "thanks", "so would you like to get a library card?" she asked "yes, sure thing, that would be great", she asked me a few questions and clacked away mindlessly at the computer. "so are you looking for anything in particular" she asked handing me my library card, which I mindlessly slid into my almost empty wallet, "not really, I'm just looking to know more about this place and why is called "home of the lost", sounds a bit creepy and at the same time comforting", Jessica chuckled, "I'm guessing you're a big city girl, but don't worry about that, it always feels that way, you know, most people say there's whole lot of mystery around this little town", she must have guessed it from the look of utter disbelief on my face, because she chuckled again this time almost choking from laughter, "really you should see the look on your face, don't worry about it, it's nothing but old ladies tales and camp fire stories, it's just superstition and folk tales, there's nothing mysterious about shear falls, so I think you can rest easy.
As for your research purposes, you can check shelves six, seven, eight and nine, they have a wide variety of books on shear falls history, written by various authors over the years so you can do as much research as you want", "thanks Jessica" I said walking towards the shelves, each shelf had a number written on its side that indicated which genre or topic it held.
There he was right there at shelf number seven completely lost in whatever book he was reading, "um hi, I'm lunar, you probably wouldn't know me cause I'm new in town, I just transferred here with my parents today and if you aren't too busy, I hope maybe you could show me around town a bit and by the way I think you are absolutely gorgeous" then he would just be like "thanks I think you're really beautiful", then we would laugh, and go out, get some ice cream and a few years afterwards we would get married and have a beautiful family and our kids would look like us and all that would be really amazing if all that were real and didn't just happen inside my head and boom, just like a hail Mary he bumps into me, he's actually rather heavy, it's only a few seconds that I realize that I'm lying flat with my back on the floor and he's actually lying on top of me, our lips a few inches apart and our eyes locked in each other's gaze, right about the time I realize it, he does too and he scrambles to his feet and stretches out his hand to help me up, "I am so sorry about that, I really didn't see you, it's just that people don't usually come around this section so I usually have this place all to myself", he mumbles out looking flustered and embarrassed.
"No, it's okay, I should have been looking where I was walking", "so you aren't from around here, are you?" he asked slowly, "wow am I really that obvious?" "Well yeah, it's actually that obvious, because shear falls is a small town and everyone knows everyone here, I'm Vincent, Vincent Lewis" he said stretching out his hand, "Lunar Anderson, I just moved here today". "wait a minute, you just moved into town today and you are already in the library, so I'm guessing you're big into books", "well not really, I guess I read a lot but, I really prefer hiking" I said giving my best fake smile trying to hide how nervous I actually felt, "well if that's the case, I suggest you stay out of the woods for a while", "why, is something wrong?". "the woods aren't safe at the moment, they say the beast of shear falls still lurks there so we just decide to stay out, a hiking trip isn't worth risking our lives for", I couldn't help but laugh, I didn't want to but he just seemed so serious about it, "wait, I'm sorry", the look on his face told me another story, "are you really serious?", he chuckled lightly "you really aren't from around here, well here, in shear falls, we believe in karma, omens, spirits and ghosts, I guess we've learnt that sometimes, some things can't be explained or some things shouldn't be explained, you know add a little magic to life", "well I beg to differ, my parents taught me that there's a perfectly rational explanation for everything, every mystery can be solved with science and logical reasoning, it's all just cause and effect, there's no fairies, spirits or ghosts, there's just cause and effect, biology, chemistry, physics and math, those are real".
Somehow I felt like I just ruined it with my big mouth, but he just smiled, "well I guess the history of shear falls would disagree with you" he said taking a book off a shelf and making ghostly sounds, I took the book from him and the title "the secret history of shear falls", I took another and it read, "the skin walkers of shear falls", "the truth about shear falls EXPOSED", "shear falls' hidden truth, the witch of shear falls, wait, were all these guys conspiracy theorists or were they just plain crazy" I asked shutting a book titled the mysteries that lay at the heart of shear falls, so it's finally confirmed that the writers of shear falls are all crazy.
