After Sargent Schmidt finished his speak he showed the the way to something that looked like a medic station. It was a long room. All one and a half meters was a bed, a monitor and a little table on both sides. All in all there were around 30 beds.
"So get to the beds, sit down and please just one person per bed. You wouldn't believe how many times the recruits try to get intimate in here." said Sargent Schmidt with a smile on his face. A recruit, a small build maybe around the age of 30 said "I think he tried to do a joke." The group chuckled in response the Sargent coughed and said visibly embarrassed "If you want to get to know each other then you have some time at the beds before we start the medical exam. "
The group followed his orders. Herbert took a bed at the end of the room in the hope that he could escape the socializing attempts of the group but one guy, heavy build no fat just muscles, two meters high, blond, long bearded, tattooed all over his arms, in dark jeans and a white shirt labeled "i haven't planed anything for today and i am well on schedule", but all in all he looked like you should change the side of the street if he comes your way.
Hoping not to start any stress Herbert tried not to stare or make any kind of contact but as both sat down on the beds the bulky man outstretched his hand to Herbert and said with a smile "Hey i am Karsten" Herbert in response was a bit overwhelmed because he already started making plans to evade this man for he looked like someone who would only mean problems if they dislike you, but he thought about what Georg "There are always two sides of a medal" and that he shouldn't judge the people just by their looks but by their doings.
So Herbert took Karsten's hand and said "My name is Herbert. Nice to meet you Karsten. if i am allowed to ask do you know something about the test?" "No, i am afraid that even i couldn't find anything out about the tests and that is normally one of my specialties." Karsten looked if someone listened "I mean that i normally get all the information's that i need and not that i would ever try to get some classified information." Herbert smiled and nodded "You know i think we two are going to get along well. Maybe we should stick together and watch each others back while being in here." Noticing that he basically was holding a monologue Karsten added "As long as it is okay for you."
Herbert was happy that he, besides that he was uncomfortable with socializing, found a friend quite easily so he said "Yes of course. I am glad that you are much nicer than you look..." While saying he noticed his mistake and instantly tried to apologize but before he could do so Karsten, noticing the shocked face of Herbert, said calmly "You know, most people think that i have to be a bad person because the way that i look and most people wouldn't be brave enough to say something like that. To be honest, i appreciate that you were sincerely to me even if it was just by accident."
Herbert was relieved to hear that Karsten wasn't angry so he answered "Thank you. I was afraid that i already angered you and i wouldn't want that to happen at all. After all i normally don't find friends that fast or better said, if i find friends at all it takes `some` time."
before Karsten could answer, Schmidt called out through the room "Now listen. You might wonder why you have no information about the tests that you will endure today. That is because we all ways try to put you in realistic situation and the truth is, you can't plan the reality. Other facilities may say that they can bring more people through the tests but that isn't our the goal at all we try to put quality over quantity. Why should we waste our resources on 20 people for the training when we could take half the resources and put them into five people so that they get a better training and can do so the same job as the 20 bad trained people. But don't worry if you do not pass our tests then you can still work in an office were you can translate for some officials but remember those do not earn nearly as much as the combat interpreter."
"I believe that i have said enough for the moment. Now you will have your first medical exam but there will be more of those. Some doctors will inspect everyone of you, they will do just the standard test and you will get a refreshing shoot against tetanus the now just relax it will not take long. You can relax some longer while the doctors check the other people"
"So where are you from Karsten, i haven't seen you around here." Herbert tried to socialize but the smile that he had since they started to talk, left his face quite fast. "Well that is a long story and the doctors come closer, maybe i will tell you that story at another time. I mean if we will stay in contact. Who knows if thy will take me, or you."
One of the doctors reached Karsten. But instead of really checking him up, he just put a needle in Karstens arm and went to Herbert and readied the next syringe. Herbert was thinking "Why is Karsten so silence." In that moment the doc put the needle in and everything went blurry. Before all went dark he heard the loud voice of Sargent Schmidt "You know i love the moment when they just notice that something is wrong. That look on their faces is always worth to do that this way. Well lets hurry and get them were they belong." and with that his mind went completely dark.
