"Now that we have four groups each group will get an order. This order is secret. If another group will learn about your orders you will be disqualified and you have to leave this program. Is that clear?" Most people nodded "If you want to say yes say: "Yes Sir" is that understood?" "Yes Sir" was all the recruits were say because slowly the noticed that they shouldn't provoke the Lieutenant.
"Now that the basics are clear I order all the squad leaders to come to me." Herbert looked at Karsten who in return just said "It's okay. I'll be back." and with that he went to the officer.
Herbert didn't knew why but even through he liked being alone and he just meet Karsten he felt uneasy when Karsten went away. The recruits used the time they got to get to know each other. While Herbert tried to to evade all kind of conversation.
First thing that happen was that Hans and Bernd started having a loud discussion about something. Herbert had no idea about what all he knew was that he didn't wanted to choose a site. Although he didn't like it when people where having an conflict he was glad that no one was disturbing him. This feeling of getting away with no conversation lasted exactly a half minute when someone stubbed his shoulder.
This someone was no one other than Marie "Do you like being an outsider or are you just nervous?" "Well I normally am better of alone than in a group and I try to stay out of trouble." was Herbert's Answer. "You know I once was like you but then I learned something." she now had Herbert's undivided attention "W-what did you learn?" "You just see the negative sites of being in a group like if they get in trouble you get them too but I learned that even if you aren't in a group, problems are still gonna find you but you can solve them much easier in a group. Do you understand that?" Herbert nodded
"How about that, if You get in trouble I am going to help you but if I get in trouble you don't have to help me, in return you try to be a part of the group?" Herbert thought that this was an offer worth to consider. "I think this is a great deal seen from my side but someone told me once that there is no free food in this world what do you get out of this deal?" He didn't try to be rude but most people who were nice to him just wanted something from him even if he didn't had much and he doubted that he would be that lucky to meet two nice people at the same day.
"Well you are a cautious person. I like that. What I get out of it? That is easy, first of all it makes the squad I am in more functional and as I told you I was in the same situation as you are in right now, the difference between you and me is that no one tried to help me back then so maybe I just try to help you to see if that could had helped me back then."
Herbert was impressed with this level of honesty even he knew that most people just keep there problems to themselves or talked about them to people they trusted. Herbert said "I accept your proposal." "Would you do me another favor could you please tell no one about it? I told you because I want to help you but I normally keep quiet about my past because I am not proud of it." requested Marie "As far as I can tell you truly try to help me and even if not I normally don't talk bad about other people." said Herbert "Thank you" while Marie thanked Herbert without a reason Karsten came back
"I thought you normally don't like to talk with people you don't know but it looks like you are already after the girl of our group." Karsten could not resist being a bit mean. "It's not like that!" Herbert was blushing and was quite nervous on this remark. "It's was a joke calm down But now we have to focus on what's happening in the front."
Perfectly on Karsten saying, Lieutenant Becker shouted through the cave "Attention" and with that everyone went silent. "Maybe you are not as stupid as I thought. I haven't explained it yet and you still know what to do or I am a damn good teacher." all people in the room had one thought on there mind "What an asshole!" "Anyways all your squad leaders got there orders and all the normal squad members have to execute the squad leaders orders. Is that clear?" "YES SIR!" the group shouted, not united but at least with the right volume.
Karsten addressed his squad "Alright listen, as you heard the man. We got our orders and our squad got a name, we are the Delta squad but before we get overjoyed over our nice name our first order isn't secret so I can tell it now loud even through the others squads are nearby. Our first order is to get to this point." He showed to them at a point of a map that he just got. "This should be two Kilometers to the north. There will be an Officer with further instructions and we get there our equipment for some days of the test the rest has to be earned. Are there any questions?" Marie raised her hand "You said that we do not get supplies for the whole test what is in those supplies we do get?" Karsten answered instantly "Good question everyone gets five MRE's as well, five liters of water and everyone who wants gets two packs of cigarettes and a lighter but even if you don't smoke please take them because we can use them for exchange at some stations or with other groups if we meet one. Are you all ready? Then lets go."
