On the way back from the funeral, Matthew and Lily didn't say much. The two just stood there in silence, staring out the window next to them. Even so, Lily occasionally stole glances at Matthew.
Matthew's face looked grave as he watched the road they passed. Now and then, Matthew closed his eyes while massaging the bridge of his nose. Matthew's face, adorned with a beard, made it difficult for Lily to see Matthew's genuine expression.
Lily finally decided to clear her throat so that the silence between her and Matthew could fade a little. However, Lily's efforts were to no avail. The silence surrounded Lily and Matthew and continued until they were halfway to the Williams residence.
"You can talk to me if you want," Lily said to Matthew.
Matthew glanced at Lily for a moment as he straightened himself. He took a deep breath and turned his attention back to the road. "You seem fine while I'm gone."
