Chapter 19 - Butterfly 1

Lily and Ryan finally returned to Lily's apartment after they finished shopping for groceries to make dinner. Ryan immediately put the ingredients on Lily's kitchen table. Meanwhile, Lily went to her room to change clothes.

While waiting for Lily to come out of her room, Ryan took the groceries. Minced meat, spaghetti pasta, tomato puree, onions, and more. He also put the vanilla ice cream that he had bought in the fridge.

Ryan plans to make spaghetti meatballs for Lily. He immediately unwrapped the minced meat and looked for a bowl to mix the minced beef, a bit of flour, chopped onions, salt, and pepper.

He opened one drawer in Lily's kitchen to look for a bowl. Once he found it, Ryan chuckled. "My God, I have to wash it first."

Ryan found a little dust on the bowl he was finding because Lily rarely used it. He had to wash the bowl before using it to mix the ingredients for the meatballs.

"Let me help," Lily shouted as she walked over to Ryan, who was already busy in her kitchen.

Ryan immediately turned to Lily. "You'd better wash your dishes first before we use them."

Lily smiled at Ryan's words. "Fortunately, these plates were just dusty. I thought you'd find cobwebs in my cabinet."

"If I found a cobweb, I'd be on the ceiling," Ryan said, still washing the dishes.

"Ryan parker," Lily said. She laughed again.

Lily took over the sink to wash the dishes they would use. After Ryan finished washing the bowl he was going to use. Meanwhile, Ryan is already in action by mixing minced beef to make meatballs.

"You flew all the way here just to cook in my kitchen," Lily said to Ryan. The two of them stood back to back.

Ryan laughed. He's chopping union for the meatball mixture and pasta sauce. "I also didn't expect that. I would end up in your kitchen like I am now."

"Are you sorry?" Lily asked.

"Not at all. I'm glad we can finally spend time together again," Ryan replied. He blinked his eyes that were sore from chopping onions. "My God, my eyes are starting to teary."

"The onions contained with propanediol sulphoxide enzyme. You have to put it in the refrigerator first to reduce the effect," said Lily. "Or by peeling it while whistling."

"I just heard about whistling," Ryan said.

"Whistling can create a good enough airflow to prevent gas from the onion from reaching your eyes." Lily suddenly stopped her work washing the dishes. Then, she turned around and immediately laughed softly when she saw Ryan whistling while peeling an onion.

"You followed what I said to you?" Lily asked in disbelief.

"If it was a researcher who said that, I'd have to believe it," Ryan replied. Then he whistled again.

Lily shook her head and went back to washing the dishes. As for Ryan, it seems he enjoys whistling while chopping onions.

Lily looked at Ryan, who was busy in his kitchen while sitting at the bar table that separated the kitchen from the living room. The man moves to and fro like a professional chef preparing a meal for his customers.

"I think you should consider a career as a chef," said Lily. Her nose sniffed the smell of the bolognese sauce Ryan was cooking. "From the smell, your dish is quite convincing."

Ryan chuckled at Lily's words. "I cooked this on purpose because it's my signature dish."

Lily immediately bombarded Ryan with questions."Really? How many women have you made spaghetti meatballs for? Has the woman who answered my phone tried it too?"

"Her name is Hannah. And she's not what you think," Ryan replied.

"A palindrome. Interesting. Is Hannah a nice woman?" said Lily.

"I spend almost half my time with her," Ryan said.

"Wow, you two seem to have been in a relationship for quite a while."

Ryan let go of the spatula and turned his attention to Lily. "Of course. She is my assistant."

Lily looked at Ryan in disbelief. Meanwhile, Ryan again stirred the sauce he was making while smiling.

"Okay, so the woman who answered your phone earlier is your assistant?" Lily asked.

Ryan nodded his head. "Did you think she was my girlfriend?"

Lily muttered for a moment. "Yeah, I thought you two were dating."

"Did that disappoint you?" Ryan asked. He turned his attention back to Lily.

Lily laughed softly. "I just don't want her to misunderstand me since we're both friends." She then took the water that was nearby and immediately drank it.

Ryan turned his attention back to the spaghetti pasta he was boiling. He took a spoon and then spooned the bolognese sauce he was making. He smiled at Lily, who seemed awkward after answering his question. "Lily!"

Lily turned to Ryan.

"Try this." Ryan pointed the spoon of his homemade bolognese sauce into Lily's mouth.

Lily looked hesitant to open her mouth. But finally, she kept her mouth open, and Ryan immediately fed the bolognese sauce into her mouth. Ryan waited for Lily's reaction after she tried his bolognese sauce. "How does it taste? Is it to your taste?"

"Schmeck gut," Lily replied. "It feels right. I think you really should consider a career as a chef." She then smiled at Ryan.

"Thank you for your compliment. I almost flew out of your apartment," Ryan said.

"You should finish your cooking first before you fly out," Lily said with a laugh.

Ryan immediately turned off the stove he used to cook the bolognese sauce with meatballs. "The pasta will be in a minute," Ryan said, looking at his watch. He waited until the minute hand on his clock stopped at twelve. After that, he turned off the stove and immediately sifted the cooked pasta.

After sifting through the pasta, Ryan prepared the pasta on a plate. "Do you want big or small portions?"

"Big, please. My stomach can't wait to eat your pasta," answered Lily.

Ryan smiled as he added more pasta to Lily's plate. After placing the pasta on a plate, Ryan poured his homemade bolognese sauce over the pasta. "Extra meatball especially for you."

Ryan sprinkled chopped parsley and parmesan cheese over his homemade pasta as a finishing touch. Lily's eyes sparkled when Ryan's dish was finally ready to be served. She clapped like a child who had just seen a magic show.

Ryan placed the plate of his homemade pasta in front of Lily. After that, he took off the apron, then came out of the kitchen and sat next to Lily. Before they started eating his pasta, Ryan opened the bottle of wine and poured the contents for the two of them.

"To the success of your serum," Ryan said as he raised his glass.

Lily raised her glass as well. "Thank you."

The two of them then toasted to celebrate Lily's serum test. After that, they enjoyed Ryan's spaghetti bolognese with meatballs.
