Chapter 34 - Chapter 34

The only reason we were in hell was to pick up my jacket, it was custom made and could take a slug round like it was a 9 mm, and I looked like a champ wearing it. I walked into my room, leaving Jack and Jade to stop Jay from touching anything that would kill him, even if he is supernatural. I found it in my closet, grabbed a soda, and headed back to where they were, standing next to a portal to Detroit.

"Y'all ready?"

"No, but I won't ever be ready to go to Detroit."

"I mean, it's not Brazil so I don't know what's got your panties in a wad, Jack," Jade said, smirk and all, and jumped through with Jay in tow. She was the one that would be keeping an eye on Jay because if anything happened to him, it would probably be on her.

"Let's go then, my guy," I said, jumping through and into the hell on earth itself, Detroit, Michigan. When I got through I saw that Jade and Jay were walking towards a convenience store, that's always an easy hit for Jade, and most likely for her to get us all drinks. I caught up with them, Jack just behind me and held Jay back.

"I'll be back in 2 minutes, Y'all, don't get mugged," She said jokingly, but it's Detroit, so anything could happen. I pulled out a pack of cigars, handed one to Jack and took one for myself, paused, and looked at Jay.

"Hey, Jay, you know anything about fire? Like using it as a weapon or tool?" I asked, and almost instantly, he lifted his hand up and lit the cigar, while I didn't smoke a lot I did every once in a while, but him being able to light it without even asking was impressive, "Noted."

"Nicki has been teaching me how to use some of my powers, but she's taking it slow and it's boring."

"I wouldn't be much better at teaching you, it's important to go slow at first. If you don't, you can get overwhelmed and not know how to control your powers, and then you have what happened to Derek a while back."

"What do you mean?" Jay asked as Jade left the Convenience store, drinks, and candy in hand. I got my soda and asked her to tell Jay the story of Derek's hellfire from a couple of years back, it had only happened to him once so she knew exactly what I was talking about.

"A while back, like 7 or 8 years ago, Derek had gone on what we like to call a 'hellfire' which is when a hellspawn loses control of their power, and their demon takes over. In Jakes's case, for example, he fought back and Jack couldn't take control, but Derek couldn't and so his demon came out, and now there's a crater where Topeka, Kansas used to be. We like to poke fun at him about it every once in a while, but it's fairly common among hellspawn and most of us have enough control to not destroy an entire city, but you're young and don't have that control, hence why Nicki is trying to take her time teaching you," Jade explained and did a pretty good job, but Jay didn't look happy about it. It made sense though, if you were told that you have the power to cause widespread destruction and were scared about what you could do, you wouldn't be too happy either.

"So...I could blow up an entire city?"

"If you wan-" I only got so far before I got slapped in the chest by Jade, who was giving me a look that said 'The fuck is wrong with you?!'.

"It's possible, but not if you listen to Nicki, she'll teach you how to use your gift correctly. We'll make sure that you're having fun though," She said and started down the street towards a truck that was pulled off of the road, in the middle of an alley...in Detroit.

"Jade, this looks sketchy, to say the least, you know that right?"

"This is child's play trapping, Jack, chill," She said, continuing down the alley, but Jack was right this didn't feel like a child's play trap or even a half-decent trap. I was getting the vibe that someone was watching us, and they weren't everyday killers or druggies.

"Jay, stay behind me but in front of Jack."

"Why?"

"The last thing I want to happen to you is that you get hurt, I'd never hear the end of it from Nicki nor Alex," I said as we got closer to the truck, which was intact and looked like it hadn't been driven in a long time. Jade was already under the hood and pulled Jay up to look inside.

"You have to learn how to do work on cars, I don't want to be the only one that knows about cars."

"I know about cars! I just don't do work on them, I drive them, and damn good too!" I yelled, which got a laugh out of Jay so I guess I did that right. Jade ignored me and continued showing Jay what different parts of the car were, what they did, and how to tell if they were broken or needed to be repaired. Jack had stayed in the alley, so I walked to where he was and leaned against the wall.

"You gettin' a bad vibe?"

"You too, huh? Yeah, this place just doesn't feel right. I feel like I'm being watched, or stalked or somethin'."

"I mean, yeah, but who would think it's a good idea to fuck with someone who can rip their spine out. It wouldn't be their brightest move."

"That doesn't mean there isn't someone stupid enough to do it, I've seen cra-" He got cut off by the roar of the truck's engine, and a cheer from Jay and Jade. Jack got thrown in the back seat with Jay, and I took the driver's seat from Jade, as frustrated about it as she was if anyone is going to drive it's going to be me. I wanna teach this kid how to drive like hellspawn, not like mortals.

"Alright kid, let's have some fun."
