Chapter 10 - The bearer of news

He was going to scream if they didn't shut up. They had to listen instead of just frantically saying anything. He was the same as them and his calmness that he always kept even when dealing with the dead wasn't anywhere inside him. There was nothing but a bullet of fear.

"If we don't move, something will make us. I don't want to make a choice when I don't have one. It's better to choose to search than to keep still and wait for the Prince to come and rescue us," Sirius mocked their cowardice and tried to apply a reverse psychology to make them move. He closed his eyes briefly in relief after Rayan stood up.

"You are right. The brain isn't my biggest talent, I have the muscles. You can tell me to move anything; I will do it without question. Sirius, you are the boss. You were the one who suggested moving so take responsibility and lead us."

Sirius opened his mouth with no idea to say, no word to articulate. He just shared what he remembered to warn them. It's in these kinds of moments that humans turn to monsters. The patient said everyone she was with was so sweet at the beginning then turned monstrous as the moon moved through the sky. He had to take a choice, whether to lead them or leave them be. He wasn't a leader type.

"That's okay! But I will not take responsibility if someone died because of my choices. You gotta all do your own because I am not a fucking saint," he stood up abruptly pushing Jessica that had her head resting over his shoulder. "I am sorry, Jess. I am nervous. How are you feeling? I didn't ask you that… I just had one of those horrible moments you could imagine."

"It's okay, Sirius. Where we are exactly? This place gives me the creeps."

He looked at her as she wrapped her arms around her self-comforting her heart. He thought how lovely she looked like, with her flowing blond hair and worried expression. Jessica was just so beautiful and so kind that he couldn't find a certain reason why she ended up in that place, then he remembered how the patient spoke of something must be done to apologize or something was done in the past that was unforgivable and this was their karma being at work.

Christopher stood up on his own followed after a few minutes by Alexandre and Mike. Two adult boys who stayed silent catching pieces of information from Sirius talk. No one wanted to admit it but he was the only one that knew something about the place. Christopher moved to the poster and the person who made it spiked in his memory, like the dull and emotionless girl she was.

"Do you remember Elianna?" he spoke his eyes still on the poster.

"Do you mean the girl who was sitting at the back? I do remember she didn't like befriending people," Jessica moved to the cupboard, examining the sides for any possible clue. Sirius spoke of clues and anything could be good to use.

"This poster belongs to her. Do you think she is dead or something, yall? Why her poster is here out of all places."

"No, I don't think so," said Mike. "I saw her back in the party. She was speaking with an old classmate of us, do you remember him? The tall guy with basketball records."

The classroom looked empty since all the furniture was gathered in one place. Alexandre crouched after he saw a small figurine of crow bird on the ground. He picked it up and turned it around revealing the shape of a brown butterfly.

"Look what I found here, guys! Do you think this could be something important," he waved at Sirius who after seeing the thing in his hands. Christopher moved around before stopping at the small figurine in Alexandre's hands.

The crow is often associated with life mysteries and magic. The power of the bird is to bring insight and support in good intentions. It's also a sign of luck and associated with the archetype of tricksters; beware of deceiving appearances. Crows usually reminds to pay particular attention to divine signs that are being communicated and guide in the appropriate path.

Sirius kept his eyes on the bird for a while before speaking. "Guys, did you have a weird dream?"

"What do you mean by weird dream?"

"I think I am fine with wishing this could be a dream," she shivered thinking of her home back in the real world.

"Just drop it," Sirius replied. "I will think about this… On my own. Anyway, I think there is a connection between the poster and this butterfly drawing here," he looked at the symbolism of the butterflies one by one and stopped at the brown one.

"How come there are butterflies drawing in here? I just don't understand the signification of its existence. Butterflies are butterflies and it isn't good to use butterflies in ugly things. Butterflies are beautiful," Rayan shrugged his shoulders while keeping an eye on the door since he found nothing to do.

"It just happens, Rayan," Jessica said indignantly. "Some things cannot be bound by rules. This place is the perfect example. This is our old classroom and remember… The school was destroyed and another building is standing there right now."

"How do you know that?" Rayan moved to the cupboard as Jessica pointed at a small drawing of a cat she did when she was in high school.

"I am the one who did this," she chuckled. "It was such a good time. I didn't think of money, food or anything. I was just studying."

The bearer of messages. That was what the brown butterfly symbolized. Sirius thought of the possibilities behind it and concluded two; the first one is about himself, the fact that he had the information needed in the situation and the second one was the ghost he dreamt of, she said to open the door and break the barriers.

He turned his head around and fixed the door; it was the only door available at the moment but there weren't any barriers. His eyes jolted to the eyes sparkling while observing them and approached them; the eyes were really odd. He thought of the meaning behind them or the reason why the shadows couldn't get in.

He tried to put his hand against the glass of the window but there were nothing in there. The shadows could get in easily if they wanted, but why didn't they do it? He stepped back in horror.

"What's wrong, Sirius?" Jessica rushed to him after she noticed his horrified expression.

"There is nothing there," he pointed at the windows shaking. "There is nothing there; nothing to protect us. What was the point of closing the door?"
