Chapter 12 - I come as a friend...

Diana closed the door again and looked around stopping her sight on a mirror. It was dirty but she could see her reflection; she looked haggard and miserable. It was just an hour and it felt like it was an eternity. She moved to the sink and looked at the tap intently. The place had only shown her bad things, what were the odds that she would see something coming out of that tap?

Her heart jogged on her chest as her hand moved to the tap slowly praying nothing would come out. After Elianna left, she felt thirst rise deep within her and the tap was the only source of water. What if there was no water at all? She imagined cockroaches coming out and bugs but in the end, there was only clean water coming out. She wiped her hand one her skirt and put them in her pocket for warmth, only to find a small picture.

It was a picture that had Elianna and her in it. She wondered where it came from since she stashed it carefully in one of those boxes she kept in her garage. She felt small all of a sudden, back to high school years and smiled. She couldn't get rid of the picture because it was the most memorable thing she had. Elianna was on the left, Diana on the right. It was a good picture.

Her heart took a bigger jog when she realized she was alone in a creepy place. She turned her head in all directions looking for anything unpleasant; she wasn't confident she wanted to see anything out of the norm. However, she still did it. In the end, she returned to her previous hiding place and sat down hugging her knees tightly, as if they were to run without her. She whispered her mantra to calm down and take it easy. That maybe this was all a dream and she would wake up soon.

She closed her eyes and rested it on her knees until she heard something moving. There was a small window near the ceiling that she didn't notice earlier. Now, there was the shadow of something resembling a cat. A bloated, misshapen cat… with a black color… Her body jolted upward galvanically and she found herself trying to open the door behind her.

Her eyes kept moving from the knob to the cat that swayed like a drunkard. She watched it in a moment, her body crawling from revulsion and a scream ready to come out. "I mustn't scream… I mustn't scream…" she repeated in her mind as the cat drew closer. It was dead. Only dead bodies bloated and gave off a nasty smell. Only dead bodies gave the sense of creep and horror.

She got out running as fast as she could in the corridors as the shadows all turned their heads to her. 'Come as a friend…' they whispered. Strangely, the words made her remember the first time she spoke to Elianna. She told her the same words.

"I come as a friend Elianna. Someone told me you could help."

"I really meant it. Stop scaring me. I really wanted to be her friend," Diana screamed her tears coming down while her legs run crazily. She wanted to return to that classroom they shared for a year. As she neared it, the black cat jumped on her head and bit her. Darkness flushed over her vision and she fell unconscious, still smelling the rotting odor of the corpse.

As Elianna got out and left Diana alone, she wandered around looking for clues. She looked at the moon high in the sky and found it freezing as if time was froze. Her phone buzzed and she took out the new message that arrived. It was odd nothing arrived when Diana was with her.

{Mine… Mine… I forgotten what time looked like; everything was frozen. I don't want to believe my life could end this… In this creepy place. I don't want to wander. But I need to write… I need to write for someone who might be in the same position as I was in… Maybe, I would be long dead by then…

Let me give you another hint; the moon is your best friend in this creepy world. If you move in the right direction, it will take you to the day. The day is safe from those monsters. You need to reach the day.}

Elianna looked at the moon once again and remembered the old times at high school. It was the same building and yet, it was different from what she saw it a moment ago. It just felt like the old building and she felt herself going back to that time when she was sixteen. It was raining.

The sound of the rain was appeasing and relaxing. It was her choice; it just proved she wasn't good enough to be a good friend. Then there was an incident she couldn't forget. It was the beginning of all her bad time in high school and the main reason her father decided to take her to another city. Her mother argued saying it was the heat of a teenager, that it would pass and everything would be fine. They always argued because of her but they always let it pass.

They were like any other couple.

There were many posts at this school, divulging the secret she always meant to hide, the fact that she was a child born out of wedlock. She was bullied by many students as being a bastard was shameful. Whenever someone shot at her, she glared at Diana's back hatefully. She tried her best to hide everything but it took one visit to her house to get things out to the public. Everything was messed up.

Elianna felt someone approaching at great speed behind her and turned her head checking on what it was. She saw the shadow of a knife in the shadow's hands and started running. She didn't want to die in a place like this, not when she knew very well she would be trapped for eternity.
