Chapter 7 - The dead never jokes

Once upon a time, there were blue skies and bright sunrays engulfing the world. The story unfolded like a blooming flower and it had a happy ending. But not today, the happy ending was just an excuse to escape reality. There were never happy endings. Even the girl who married her love couldn't live with his love alone. Love cannot whisper to the stomach to shut up and scram.

"I am coming for you, love," the word love was written over and over again until the blood ran out.

Diana ran outside thinking of her safety, of a place where she could be safe. She couldn't believe what just happened. Her hand slapped her cheeks and her mouth bit her lips in hope she would wake up. However, this was the reality they lived and experienced.

[It seems the game is going pretty well. I like that guy; he already spiced up the channel.]

When the body emerged all in bad shape and the words engraved on it repeatedly, Elianna stepped back in horror a hand over her heart. Now fear came, entering slowly and softly, sifting through the hollows of her soul and filling them up with regret. She realized she didn't have to write the warning. She just wanted to reach someone and understand where he was but someone killed a soul. She halted.

The fear suffocated her. It wrecked her body in agony sending waves of distress and chaos. She forced her eyes to look away, to where Diana ran. People when fueled with fear do the most stupid behaviors. She checked the door again and found it pretty normal; a moment ago, it didn't budge even an inch. Her head was in a way that aspired terror; it was attacked to the rest of the body with only a small bit of human flesh. What made it stuck to its position was a pen Emmanuel found in one of the drawers.

Elianna glanced back her shoulder and in the moonlight seeping through the cracks of the planks, she saw the shadow of a silhouette moving. Her body felt a hopeless crawl of horror in the belly. She hurried and peeked through the cracks; it was safer that way instead of coming out of the classroom and meet with the creepy shadow. She was confident it wasn't human.

It was hopeless resisting those eyes; the shadow had silver-like eyeballs that shone like the moon high in the sky. Up ahead, the shadow twisted its head backward noticing Elianna's existence. The shadow didn't have a face, it didn't have a look; it was just a shadow with materials. Elianna stepped back and hurried under a desk.

It was futile to hide when the shadow had already noticed your presence. Elianna's terror seemed to crystallize in her mind as the shadow faded and appeared right in front of her. The shadowy hand grabbed her neck and lifted her up in the air as it floated as well. It wasn't a dream, nothing was a dream.

The shadow was grinning; the bloody lips wrinkled back from its teeth and the eyes were brighter than any dim moonlight. The shadow lifted one arm and pointed at the corpse. It floated whirling until Elianna could see clearly the corpse. Her hands grabbed the shadow with one hand and picked the totem with the other from her bag. She kept hitting until her hand stopped and the totem fell from shock.

She saw the grinning face of the corpse twist and turn until it was brought back, the pen dug deeply inside. It opened the mouth showing the pen. Elianna remembered the black butterfly and was confident it was her death that was foreshadowed until Diana appeared from behind and hit the shadow with a chair.

The monstrous creature fell back, loosing the grip on Elianna that took advantage of it and freed herself. The totem fell near the cracked ground and almost disappeared. It rolled and stopped at the edge. The shadow turned to Eliana and whispered. "I come as a friend!"

There was something warm on Elianna's cheek as she picked Diana's hand and shoved her forward, outside the classroom. She remembered the totem and how she had to keep it for the prophecy to not be realized and attempted to return to it. Diana pulled her to hide in the toilet where she was a minute ago.

"The door mustn't be opened," the shadow said walking the corridors. "I come as a friend!"

The voice became distant till it disappeared, leaving no trace behind. Diana and Elianna both came out of the toilet and looked around each in a direction. The shadow wasn't anywhere. Elianna's phone buzzed.

"Your phone is still working, do you get a signal?" Diana asked frantically.

"No, it isn't. But I still got power in it. I think it's my alarm," Elianna lied and moved away to see what it was. It was a message from the same unknown sender.
