Chapter 42 - Pathetic

Ava kept pounding until Roy finally opened the door, having dark circled and bloodshot eyes.

As soon as he opened the door, Ava pushed herself in, and Erin followed shortly behind her.

"What the fu- have you showered? And can we have some lights?" Ava said as he scrunched up her nose, entering the dark room.

Roy quickly flipped a switch on the wall, and the brightened room showed the bareness with just a mat, a few wall paintings, and a television.

"Wow, no wonder you're so pathetic. You live a pathetic life," Ava said as she saw the condition of the room.

"Is there a reason you came here, Ava? I unfortunately still haven't found him, but I think I'm getting close."

"Oh really? Tell me how?" Ava said as she grew a devilish smile on her face.

Roy was slightly confused but told her what he's been up to.

"In total, there are 33 inhabitants where the humans live, the beast destroyed seven, and I've checked 19 so far, I just have a few more, and he HAS to be in one of those places," Roy said with confidence.

"AHAHAHAHAHAH" Ava burst out laughing after Roy was done, leaving Roy with a stunned expression on his face.

"Are you dumb!? Have you ever thought about if your son got his powers again?" Ava said with a proud smile on her face.

"That's impossible, he would need a microsurgeon, and it's much harder to remove than to put on," Roy said as he scoffed at her idea.

"Well, I just had a meeting with a kid that's around the same age as yours, and he looked very similar to you. His name is NightFall."

"NightFall? I feel like I've heard that name recently," Roy pondered as he grabbed his tablet and looked on the forums for the name.

After a few moments, Roy was completely shocked at what he was seeing, he could confirm that NightFall was Wayne.

"B-but how?" was all Roy was able to utter as he was looking at some footage and saw his image in the database on the I.D. badge.

"Well, you know what you have to do, he is on a team sponsored by Daylight, so if you can get him by himself or in a state of chaos, that would be best, just to avoid questions," Ava said with a smirk on her face as she and Erin began heading out the room.

"You caused this mess, you better clean it up," were Ava's final words as she left the room.

Roy just stood there staring at the picture, almost in admiration, after Ava left the room.

"My son, you've grown... Too bad your fate has been sealed," He said as he looked up more information about NightFall.

Meanwhile, Wayne was in his hotel room, enjoying the quietness he was surrounded by.

Wayne thought of how many ways today could've gone bad, and he grew upset at how weak he still was. Wayne wanted to do some bounties but didn't want to leave the team hanging since he was attached to them now.

"I need to call Zeak," Wayne muttered as he grabbed his phone.

"Ayo! It's been a while, I'm guessing you went to go see that sidekick?" Zeak answered after a few moments of ringing.

"Yeah, and it has been crazy, let me tell you," Wayne said as he proceeded to inform Zeak about all that happened, from the Cargo incident with Rose to meeting Duggar and doing the test and then to the latest bit of him fighting the horde.

"Holy smokes! You have been busy, I'm glad you're still alive after that, anything I can do for you?"

"Yeah, two things, first, I need a weapon, a gun is cool, and all but my aim isn't great, and I don't have time to practice to become perfect. I noticed I use my hands a lot, so anything I can use hand to hand would be great. Secondly, I need you here in the city with me, I don't know how long I will be here, and I'd like my friend not to be alone."

"Wayne..."

"Don't worry, I promise to get stronger to protect you, I just don't want to lose you without a chance of saving you," Wayne said as a tear fell from his cheek.

"Alright, I will see what I can do, but be ready when I'm near."

"Alright, sounds good."

Wayne hung up the phone and went about his day.

After a couple of days, Wayne got a phone call from Zeak.

"I'm here, where are you?" Zeak said in a hushed tone into the phone.

"Damn, dude, it's two a.m, I'm at Saints Retreat, do you know where that is?"

"Kind of, I'll be there shortly, wait outside for me."

Zeak then hung up the phone and headed toward the hotel. Meanwhile, Wayne put some clothes on and stood in front of the hotel waiting for him.

Once Wayne spotted Zeak, he waved his arms to ensure he knew it was him.

"Hey," Zeak said as he approached Wayne and gave him a hug.

"Now, where should I put my things?" Zeak asked, pointing to his backpack and a rolling suitcase.

"Follow me."

After a moment, they arrived at the room, and Zeak started unpacking.

"So I thought about what you said with a new weapon, and I came up with these," Zeak said as he laid a few weapons on the bed.

Wayne looked at them and pondered for a while. There were about fifteen different kinds of weapons, but Wayne only had his eye on five.

The rope dart, twin sabers, gauntlets, twin daggers, and a staff.

"Hmmm... What to choose?" Wayne wondered as he scratched his chin.
