Chapter 33 - A New Type (Part 1)

"Hey, is it alright if we stay and watch you guys in action?" Ben asked with Kev by his side, both with pleading eyes.

Duggar just looked at them and then at the team where a few of them were trying to slyly say no.

"Uh, it's usually not in our protocol for you guys to stick around, you guys can get hurt, and we won't be able to save you, especially since we don't have a healer on our team."

"Awe, but we will stay out of the way! You won't even know we're there, please?" Kev asked this time by dropping down to his knees and holding his hands beggingly.

Duggar just grew an embarrassed smile and lifted Kev up from off his knees, "It's okay, it's okay, no need for that. If you want to see us in action that bad, just know that we're not responsible for your lives," Duggar said while leering at them, ensuring they understood the seriousness of the situation.

"We understand, we understand!" both of them said as they jumped for joy, this would be the first time they could see people with abilities in person.

Everybody just looked at them as if they were naive but didn't say anything.

"Now scram, go hide!" Duggar said, shooing them away.

After Duggar saw the kids hiding in the distance, he went over with his team and waited for the beast to appear.

A few hours passed, and it soon went into the evening, well into the middle of the night.

Mystic and the twins were sound asleep, while the others were still waiting for something.

"What time is it?" Wayne said as he yawned.

"It's 2 A.M," Nina said with a sigh.

"It's alright, guys, once it reaches morning, we'll go ba-," before Duggar could finish, he saw something peering behind the waterfall. When the others saw his expression, they looked at the waterfall as well.

The beast slowly came out, looking around its surroundings while its massive body split the waterfall down the middle.

"Holy shit, have you ever seen one like that?" Wayne asked in a whisper, scared the beast would hear them.

"No," Duggar said as he slowly awakened the others to witness the beast themselves.

The creature was the size of a small mountain with obsidian skin that sheened in the moonlight, white veins that pulsed throughout its body, and a mouth that was just a line, it didn't have any distinctive features other than it walked on its hind legs and hands like a gorilla.

"Why the fuck didn't the kid mention it was this big?" Mystic said as soon as he saw the beast.

"It's alright, just be quiet and watch," Duggar said as he stayed attentive to the beast.

As the beast walked out, seeing that the area was clear, it walked in the middle of the lake and then stopped while looking up at the sky. The others saw this and remained attentive, after a few moments, the beast made a deep guttural croak but did it in a way that was at different intervals and not one continuous croak.

"Well fuck, looks like these kids were onto something," Nina said, looking at the others to ensure they were seeing what she was seeing.

This went on for an hour before the beast got up and went back behind the waterfall.

"Well, it's obvious that that beast is different from the rest," Mystic said with a worried expression on his face as the beast went into the cave.

"What should we do?" Nina asked as she hadn't taken her eyes off the waterfall.

"Well, we have two options from what I can tell, we can either report anomaly and get one of the heroes on the job, or we continue with the mission and check the cave to see if that beast is doing anything in there," Duggar said with furrowed eyebrows, he was thinking about all the different options and scenarios that can unfold.

"I say we go in and kill that thing, it's an abomination," Akuma said as he gripped the hilt of his sword.

Everybody shook their heads in agreement when they heard this.

"Alright, well, it's obvious that the cave is a one way in, one way out type of deal, there will be two groups, one that stays outside and the other that goes in. The team that goes in will flush the beast out of the cave, giving us more of a fighting chance in open space. The team outside, once the beast gets out, it's game on," Duggar said as he looked at everyone.

Alright, team one is going in the cave, me, Mystic, Wayne, and Rocky. Team two would be the rest of you guys. Is that fine with everyone?" Duggar said, hoping not to get any objections.

"I'm fine!" Rocky said with a smile as she hugged Wayne's arm.

Mystic just rolled his eyes while the others just nodded in agreement.

"Good, team one, let's go," Duggar said as they went to approach the waterfall.

As they got to the cave opening, there was a horrid stench it smelled like fresh blood had filled the air.

"Man! Let's hurry up, if the beast doesn't kill me, this smell will," Mystic said with a disgusted look on his face.

The others didn't say anything as they didn't want the odor to get in their mouth. After a few minutes of walking, the stench got stronger. They then walked into a circular opening within the cave with the beast at one end curled up fast asleep.

"Don't tell me that's what I think it is?" Wayne said as he looked down on the ground as he saw a bunch of little flesh-looking pods on the ground.

"Eggs?" Duggar said with a worried expression.

"We definitely have to kill that thing, it has the ability to make more of them, and who knows if they'll be the same as that thing or worse," Mystic said as he was ready for an order to attack.

"Alright, Rocky, try and preserve one of those eggs while Wayne here will burn the rest, that should make that thing angry enough to chase us outside," Duggar said as he lifted his chin to Rocky and Wayne to go ahead and start the plan.
