Chapter 45 - Chapter 45: The Origin island

The Moon in the sky along with stars gave the ocean beneath a lucrative delight by bestowing the waves with a shiny light.

The ever moving waves were filled with tranquil pride when they witnessed how mother Moon made them a beautiful sight.

Winds passed by with a disappointed sigh as they knew that something dreadful was about to ruin the mighty ocean's lullaby.

Amidst the warnings of cold winds, a figure of man with two obsidian black wings flew forward while making a lot of noise.

He looked towards the left and saw black clouds coming towards him but their movement was not that fast and seemed really slow.

On one side we have stars which are glimmering like little gems in the sky while the other looks ominous and dark. Ryan was completely oblivious and barely felt anything wrong and considered the clouds as regular storm clouds.

Whether he was wrong or right would be known in due time.

Anyways, Ryan lost track of time as he was mesmerised by the beauty of night. Ryan from a young age really loved going outside during the night and if you top it off with rain then there's nothing better than that for him. He kept flying until he saw a landmass at the horizon.

A solemn expression crept up his face as he further increased his speed but restrictions are always shit and he felt an immense pressure descend on his body which slowed him down.

"Umbra, you see this shit?" Ryan asked Umbra with a frown on his face.

"What should I see? Your speed being limited or the fact that you took a leak while flying?" Umbra said with a mind equivalent of a sigh.

"Ryan, sometimes you do things that are not fit for someone your age." Umbra was a bit confused by his childish actions.

Ryan chose to remain silent because it was not worth the argument.

"If I meet the person who is doing this to me, I'll torture them for a whole day." Ryan said as he saw the island expanding in front of his eyes. His destination was not far now.

Several minutes passed by and Ryan had finally reached the island. He carefully landed on the black rocks which completely covered the shore. He felt an unknown aura scanning through his body which made him shiver. Sounds of waves crashing tingled his ears as he felt an unfathomable urge to swim.

"If you try to swim, I'll bite your limbs off." An immediate threat from Umbra made him consider his decisions.

'I'll swim after I finish exploring this place.' Ryan thought while moving forward.

Sounds of footsteps hidden by the waves kept coming as our protagonist crossed the rocky shore and his eyes went wide when he saw something that has been long lost in the journey of time.

"Is that Lepidodendron?" Ryan couldn't believe his eyes that he was seeing something that went extinct approximately 300 million years ago.

Lepidodendron, which also has a nickname "the scale tree," due to its trunk looking oddly similar to the scales of a reptile. Ryan touched the tree with shaky hands as he never expected to see something like this on Earth.

The scale tree was actually more closely related to club moss than actual trees. The trunk was made of soft tissues instead of wood but for convenience we will keep calling it a 'tree'. This tree actually confused a lot of scientists because the petrified form of its trunk looked shockingly similar to giant reptiles that roamed the Earth long ago.

Ryan was admiring the beauty of the tree when he realised that nothing about an extinct species being here was known to the public.

Ryan quickly flew upward until the shape of the island was visible to him. His eyes scanned through the entire island until he confirmed that he was indeed at the right place. Suddenly, the same pressure descended on him and forced him to fall down.

"Fucking hell!" Ryan crashed on the rocky ground.

"Damn, if not for my scaly ass, I would have definitely died." Ryan heaved a sigh and thanked his dragon brother for this body.

Ryan stood up and carefully went inside the dark forest that lay before him. The Origin island was mostly forest with a lake beside a temple right at the centre. Ryan didn't know this but the extinct vegetation he was seeing was different from the satellite images and scientists only found species of plants and animals that went extinct 500 years ago or less.

What he was seeing right now was something no one was fortunate enough to even take a glance at. Ryan was a bit furious that he could not fly while being on this island but didn't hold a grudge against the person who was doing this.

Ryan knew that there must be someone making things work behind the scenes. Now when he sees the island with his bare eyes he can guarantee that someone is in this place or else such type of modifications in a few seconds was not possible.

What type of modifications, you ask?

When Ryan flew up he saw the island shifting and changing multiple times. At first he wanted to directly fly to the centre but this goddamn place didn't allow him to fly.

Ryan walked for an hour until he saw an opening to a swamp.

"This place resembles the carboniferous period." Ryan muttered as there were many plants even he didn't recognise. The air itself in this area had more oxygen content than the atmosphere outside.

Ryan jumped over a rock and it caused one other rock to fall over a third rock causing a huge explosion.

Ryan's eyes went wide with horror as he quickly covered his body with a layer of water mana.

"Wtf is wrong with this place?" Ryan almost screamed in horror but controlled himself as he knew that doing something like that might cause trouble.

"For the first time in my life I am hating too much oxygen." Ryan wiped the sweat off his forehead and used mana to Keep the oxygen particles away from him.

"Why is it?" Umbra asked as she was clearly confused why this was happening.

"The oxygen level in this particular place is around 75 to 80%. That must be one of the reasons that we don't see any animals here." Ryan was getting nervous because this place might look like the carboniferous period but the oxygen level here is much higher.

"How are the plants surviving? They should be dead by now." Ryan said this because he couldn't sense even a single bit of mana from the weird plants.

Ryan looked around and was wondering why they weren't affected by oxygen poisoning. Even plants should be affected by this but for some reason they weren't, Ryan was damn sure that these plants took away too much carbon dioxide and the matter with nitrogen was still confusing.

Man this is fucking my brain up. Even Ryan was scared and immediately put back the fire element to forbidden magic. If a little bit of friction can do this then what would happen if he released a huge tornado of fire.

"Even if this era had animals they would be well adapted to it but that isn't the case. They are long dead." Ryan hypothesised.

Fuck hypothesis, this was a fact.

Ryan's mind felt an itch and he wanted to summon a fire tornado but he didn't want to ruin such beauty of life. He moved forward while looking at the mana content in the atmosphere and was surprised when he saw it was even lesser than the amount Earth right before cataclysm had.

His heart started beating faster with anticipation as he felt the curious student inside him wake up. Water splattered with every step he took, he looked around for any signs of moving life but unfortunately found nothing.

When he was sure that his steps were not causing any friction he immediately started running towards the centre of the Island.

The swamp seemed to jolt awake when he started running and the trees which were stationary a moment ago now started uprooting.

Leg-like protrusions erupted from the ground and the trees started moving. Ryan for a second felt like he was being followed so he stopped and looked back to see if there was any kind of mana signature but to his dismay there were none.

He was not convinced and suspected that something weird was surely there. He decided to wait for a few minutes and check if he found something but uncle failure seemed to care for him too much.

'So this is how you want to play, huh.' Ryan snickered in disgust.

"Let's see who's the fastest in this game." Ryan bolted off with a dangerous glint in his eyes. This caused a heavy strain on the surrounding air and caused the excess amount of oxygen in the air to freely explode.

"Hahaha." Ryan moved crazily until all of the area around him was completely covered in smoke. He grinned and did something that he previously wanted to avoid.

"Hymn of fire." He muttered while mana gushed out of his body and turned into flames that immediately started to explode the oxygen the moment they appeared.

The original spell turned into something more dangerous as it kept expanding until it exploded at a radius of 2km. The ground shook as the trees that stopped moving when Ryan turned back were now just standing at a single place almost as if they were accepting their fate.

The explosions kept going for half an hour until the oxygen in the area was exhausted. Black smoke cloud didn't settle for another hour as Ryan kept waiting because he wanted to know what the explosion did to the land.

Clouds of black smoke settled and a completely destroyed swamp appeared before his eyes. Notice that I said swamp but never mentioned the moving trees because those trees stood tall even after such a big explosion.

Ryan felt his blood go cold when he put himself in their position and found out that he would have gone in a critical condition for a few seconds if he tried to do anything similar to those trees.

A vulnerable state that he wants to avoid.

There were a total of 165 trees that stood in formation like they were ready to move for a war. Suddenly, a change occurred in the trees and tentacles sprouted from their trunks, followed by mouths with teeth like substances that seemed too sharp for their own good.

Ryan felt excited yet confused about the things they knew about the bygone era. It seemed like even the fossils were not enough to understand how life worked during that time.

Ryan felt a sudden movement beneath his legs and he quickly moved out of the way and if he was a second late he would have been inside the mouth of these scale trees.

"Fucking abominations." He said out loud and quickly conjured a wind sword and cut the jaw of the tree into two pieces. The tree that erupted from the ground to ambush Ryan was cut into two pieces but it didn't stay like that for long because the two pieces started working like two different organisms.

He saw this and immediately calmed down because if he didn't he might have made mistakes which were not affordable at this point.

``They are fireproof, they are decapitation proof, what more do they have?" Ryan calmly raised his hand high and thunder clouds started to appear and completely covered the area again.

"This night will be a flashy one." Ryan started grinning as a flash of light struck the ground.
