Chapter 31 - Chapter 31

He leaned on the window and his head hit hard against the glass when the car stopped. "Ow," He touched his head and marvelled at the big hotel in front of him, the glasses were reflective but black with a casement above the door.

"Bilal, get my things,"

"Right away," He excused himself and Robbie held on firmly as the valet assisted him and set him down on the chair.

He was wearing a blue shirt, khakis and socks. A blanket was hung on his thighs.

He scooted to the revolving doors and waited for an opening and got in, Guy hurried after him to the front desk and the receptionist panicked gesturing him to the lift, they got to the paramount of the hotel and Robbie stretched his arms.

The walls were white and there was a monochrome canvas of a lion above the king-sized bed, a computer system made available by the other end, a sound system and a TV.

The tiles were chocolate brown and furry and a wardrobe that had its lid revolving into the wall when pushed. It revealed a line of suits and he opened the cupboard.

"That's a little..." He cleared his throat "Excessive. Why are you in such a hurry to leave?"

"Because Guy," He said drily and zipped his other bag on the bed open. "Help me pack,"

"I'll be checking out," He said to the receptionist as the doorman whisked his clothesline outside.

"Of course," She said beaming at their most prized customer and signing him out of his room, he returned the card and the room was made vacant.

"Yes, it was a thrilling experience, yeah?"

He said nudging Guy who bit his tongue after tossing toilet paper everywhere.

"I was just having some fun," He protested as Guy pushed him out of the hotel quickly.

"I need a place to live, something smaller and unthinkable," He whispered.

"Absolutely not," He said gazing at the old hotel. "You lived in this dump?" He pointed a thumb and Guy thought the guard heard that and shrugged.

The floors were cracked and most people stumbled over them.

"Guy, the aim is to live in comfort, not choke myself to death,"

"This is unthinkable,"

He droned inside the hotel and his eyes rolled over the posters and a lopsided picture of an island. His eyes met the doorman who grinned.

"What are you doing in this shithouse?" He waved his hand.

Robbie cast Guy a dry look.

"I thought you'd be flaunting a boughati by now," He threw his head back and laughed.

"Could you get him a room, please?"

"Exclusive," He added.

The doorman leaned over the creaky counter with a sly grin. "Do you want me to carry you upstairs too?" He pointed a thumb to the hall.

"Mush!" Robbie pointed as the guard grunted doing laps upstairs "And careful, my legs are still tender," He said holding his head.

"How in the world?" The doorman pulled up the Armani bag that he was equally having trouble carrying upstairs.

"He's bougie," Guy confessed.

"Room 4A," The doorman recited audibly, luckily, the halls were glossy with an energy-saving lightbulb simmering yellow across the halls, the door and floors were in mint condition, the ceilings though had a dash of spiderwebs which a cleaner worked on twisting a broom around to get them off.

"There, wasn't that splendid chap?" He patted his face and the guard stood up and passed Guy a quick glare and slowly ambled back to his work station in a somewhat military gait.

"So...I'll be leaving," The doorman passed Guy a devious smirk and left them.

Guy exhaled and opened the door, flicking on the lights, he met the warmth and smell of a new room. The space was considerable and there had been some retouching done on the wall colour, he separated the blue curtains with flowers away from the sash windows and drew the panes open to a new view, the warm air blurred the building tops and from his right, he could see the beach and the front lawn was farthest, the cars looked like ants from his perspective.

The rims were solid oak and the grey walls were thick, he unfolded the bubble wraps from the small love seat and scanned the heater, the wall outlets were intact, no chips on the ceiling, the fan worked just fine and there was a bed, a comfortable one at that.

Robbie gazed everywhere "Chilling, thought it'd be bigger,"

"It's a nice place," Guy insisted sternly.

He grinned shunning what he was about to say "I'm hungry,"

Guy forgot he skipped breakfast and he'd be dying for a nice lunch. His hand sifted the frying pan steadily as the flapjack sizzled and he put it up. He scooted to the door and nodded paying the pizza guy.

He ate a slice immediately,

"Brilliant,"

"You were taking too long. So...you didn't tell me you were a mega-nerd, you even made more money than I could in years,"

Months later,

Robbie was getting better and was moving to Bristol. Guy was getting richer and his life improved every day, it was still unfathomable.

He escorted him down the steps and he looked well dressed to travel.

"I'll see you,"

"Maybe stop by for a Christmas dinner," He teased leaving by a car.

He sat at a pub musing after Robbie left, it was emptying and his eyes followed the lady and he bleached at her.

She started to make her way toward him and he searched for a bill to pay up and sat back casually. "Jillian, fancy meeting you here,"

She sat back and caught a beer can from the bar and flicked it open. "Fancy?"

"Why are you so upset?"

"My one-hit-wonder of a father just broke his ankle performing on stage." She muttered.

"Um...who's your dad?"

"I wouldn't know, he's French and he has this religious gimmick going on, the only thing we can ever agree on is his music," She blew a breath and her hand curled and she blinked at his phone. "You gonna get that?"

He picked up.

[ Yes ] or [ No ]

His fingers stopped at the options and scoffed.
