Chapter 32 - Chapter 32

"Uh..." He read the text again and put it down, he was only interested in having fun with Jillian. He swivelled to her.

She fumbled with her beer and blew a breath. "Well are you gonna tell me what you plan on doing with all that money? I honestly didn't think you would..."

His mouth opened at her confession and they closed. "I don't know," It seemed he knew what to do when there was little to invest

on.

He looked into his drink again and felt a throbbing sensation in his right temple and lowered his drink, "Nope,"

"What's wrong?" She leaned over the counter.

"Nothing," His phone buzzed and he saw the figures on his account skyrocketing, it was deposited in chunks, not the overnight kind of alert but Sebastian_ hard for him to say, had an "issue" with being "debited".

He and Guy both knew that $25 million was spare change, not after the betting and constant demand for exclusive content. The need for merchandise was on the rise too.

"I just had too much to drink," He rubbed his head.

The bartender threw her another chilled beer.

"Don't bail on your glasses," She warned.

"But they're heavy,"

She gasped.

"The pain's not around the eyes, I promise," He grinned sheepishly and she caught on laughing.

"He fell off a stage," She clapped.

"Alright, come on," He helped her up getting to the street outside the pub.

"Taxi!" She yelled into the street.

"You have a...car," He led her to a silver Volvo parked by a mailbox and held the door open.

"Freeride." She slipped in "Oh, you have a car already?!" She giggled and leaned over the car seat and he put a seatbelt on, gazing ahead at the bright headlights, he flicked his on, although it was suicide, driving at night would be a blast.

She fumbled with her seatbelt and missed.

"No, don_don't worry about it," He cautioned.

...

He slumped in the car seat while she hunched outside spilling her guts and she staggered to the car. "Open this damn door!"

She kicked the body of the car and then opened the driver's seat. He slinked over to the next seat and she tapped the steering wheel.

"I can't see a thing," She took off her glasses and put them on.

"We're at your house," He confessed and she stepped out, her vision cleared and she blinked when she noticed she had just thrown up in her garden, embarrassed she slumped into the car too.

"Thanks for bringing me home," She confided and took her workbag. "Are you coming? I just remembered I have leftover brownies in the fridge,"

"Delightful," He said and locked the car pacing after her on the concrete lawn, the lawn had sisals and aloe veras on the sides.

It was close to a high street uptown and he admired the plants on the windows. The light on the first window flicked on and he entered the house meeting a big canvas, it was covered with a fuzzy grey cloth like a towel and a man was sprawled across the snug couch with his legs crossed.

"What's up dork?" He said from behind the canvas.

Guy shut the door and set the canvas aside and he met Kane seated, he was having a mug of tea with a spoon in it.

"Huxley, what are you doing here?" He asked quizzically.

His hair was rugged, his blue eyes were bloodshot and he wore a striped red and white vest, cargo pants and flip flops. He shook it excitedly.

"I happen to be homeless, thanks for asking," He shrugged and his eyes were on him while he sipped from the mug.

Jillian appeared holding a plate of them "Oh, sit down,"

He needed to settle down, more than he thought, he felt like the room was spinning and he dropped a bit too hard.

"Guy," A whisper. "Wake up," He whispered again.

Guy's head tossed and he gasped sitting up and laying back when he was prompted to, he met two blurry faces in front of him and they stood upright over him. Jillian looked very worried and he groaned at the critter slithering across his forehead and he swabbed off the sweat.

"I must be dreaming," He let out and the back of his head was pounding,

"No, you're not dreaming, I'm very anxious for you Guy, my friend," He touched his chest and Guy recognized his voice.

"Please, do not suffocate our patient," Shawna said shoving them aside and he squinted his eyes at her and phased out, she was flashing the lights across his eyes to keep him awake.

He had his glasses replaced and saw her.

"No, no, no," He grunted slumping over the pillows. Shawna gripped his shoulders.

"You need to be very still, hmm?"

Jillian flicked on the fan in front of him, the dizziness waned and he felt at ease.

"My God, I feel like I just gained a tonne,"

"Well, you do appear very...chubby," Kane rubbed his jaw.

He felt flustered, his best friend, his_he didn't know what to call Kane and he groaned inwardly in her presence, they were all eyes and ears about how he collapsed like a bag of feed in front of them.

"You both look very tired, I suggest you leave,"

"I feel fine," Kane shrugged holding on to a bar of those adjustable panels, his biceps bulged.

Now he was unsure about them leaving,

"I'll stop by, later," She waved and Kane held her hand.

"Come on, let's go banter more about your rockstar daddy,"

His eyes followed them until Shawna threw him a question.

"You take steroids, Guy?" She drawled taking notes.

"No?" He said. When confronted with all those unsettling questions, his reaction was to bluster, which she was not cowed by at all.

"I see," Her voice was audible enough and she pushed the curtains closed and checked her watch, monitoring his blood pressure.

"I assure you, you're in a safe environment, no one's going to be judging you," She had a sly grin.

He scoffed "You're a doctor?"

Her eyes rose to him "You need to take a test," She wrote down the prescriptions and he read the department and was flustered.

"I am not impotent,"

She leaned over him and smirked, his lips parted, she shoved him down lightly and he fell back to the pillow.

"Lie down for a moment," She brushed his sheets back up and signalled a nurse.
