We stood beside Mingyu-ssi, overlooking the floor below us while also guarding the entrance from the car park building.
There was a silent and awkward air around us, so Jiyoon-ssi decided to start a conversation.
"How long have you all been here, Mingyu-ssi?"
"Ah, we've only been here since yesterday while running away from a swarm of juvenile headless spiders."
"A swarm of juvenile headless spiders?"
"Yeah."
"We've also seen it today. We barely escaped because of the announcement and all the monsters disappearing."
"Then, you've seen the actual size of the headless spider and their nest underground?"
"What?" The three of us turned our heads to Mingyu-ssi because we never came across some kind of spider nest.
"Huh? You never came across those? Well, you're lucky since—" Before Mingyu could finish his sentence, I quickly cut him off.
"Then... that must be the reason why that giant headless spider stayed underground instead of chasing after us!"
"What?" They all looked at me.
"The subway was that spider's home and at the last subway was where its nest is located..."
"Basically, it only attacked us because we were inside its property. Jiyoon-ssi, you're lucky you never came across the spider after moving from subway to subway."
"It must be... I only stayed at the subway when there are monsters outside and resting at night."
"Wait, "resting"? You really are one lucky woman for not being eaten while sleeping." Mingyu laughed before Jiyoon-ssi and Gunwoo joined in.
"No, I couldn't really sleep well when there were rumblings, haha."
"How long have you three been working together?"
"Ah, Minhyuk-ssi and I were workmates on our way to work when everything that's happening now started. As for Gunwoo-ssi, I only met him today when I regrouped with Minhyuk-ssi after being separated for a while."
"I see."
"What about your group and you? How long have you all been together?"
"We're a group of students from a school in Seoul and Ms. Sung is our teacher. We were in a school trip here."
At first, I doubted what Eunjoo said since she still had to make Mingyu-ssi to go out before telling us.
"There's also another group you told you about, right? Are they also from the same school?"
"Yeah, but... The teacher they ended up with is the new one and we don't know much about him. But, he's a nice guy."
"You're doubting if you can entrust your friends to him, are you?" I asked and it looks like I hit bullseye.
"Yes..."
"Surely, nothing would go wrong with their group. He's a teacher after all, and the duty of teachers is to protect their students inside and outside the school." Jiyoon-ssi replied, trying to give some relief to Mingyu-ssi.
"I guess..."
"Minhyuk-ssi, it's almost six o'clock now. We should get ready." Gunwoo reminded us while showing his watch.
"That's right..."
"What kind of monsters do you guys think would show up?" Gunwoo suddenly brought up an interesting topic.
"I think, that swarm of headless spiders and that huge one."
"Yeah, same with me."
[ Second Trial announcement: The monsters have been released. ]
After the short announcement, we heard deafening screeches from outside and we took a peek, only to see a countless groups of insects standing in the streets and on top of buildings.
What made them terrifying, is that they have the average height of an American man [1].
I've seen too much insects today that I'm getting sick of it. I wouldn't be surprised nor shocked anymore if there were bees with the size bigger than these.
"We... don't have to fight these things at all, right? They said just keep guard..." Gunwoo pointed at them as he trembled upon the view of those insects.
"Yeah. There's no need to fight them as long as we stay low and don't let them find out about us."
We waited there for a few minutes and everything seemed to be doing alrigt. None of the monsters could find us until,
"Help me!" A man slammed his hands on the door of the entrance towards the building..
The monsters we were watching for suddenly turned their heads to where the noise came from and entered the car park building.
We heard the terrified scream of the man being ripped to shreds and screeches coming from the bloodthirtsy monsters across the door.
"You just had to say it, Minhyuk-ah." Gunwoo facepalmed with the hint of disappointment in his voice.
"My bad, I guess. But, I never expected us to get past tonight without getting to close contact with monsters. It's expected."
"Let's make sure not to let them get any further inside. It'll be a bigger problem if they do. What do we do if they get past that door, Minhyuk-ssi?"
"We have two choices. One is incredibly selfish and the chance of survival is unknown and one guarantees a chance of survival and I can't tell if it's going to be low or high."
"What are those?" They turned their heads to me.
"We either abandon them and escape or we tell them about anything that happens to this door."
"Of course, our choice is the second choice. But we don't need to escape. This place is big enough to fight against them."
"That's right! We can't just leave my classmates and teacher just because one managed to breach through one door!"
"Then, what would we do if they breached the other doors?"
"Let's... Let's fight with them! Our chances of surviving is much more higher with people you can fight with."
"That's right... Our strengthbis in numbers... What have I been saying? Haha..."
Jiyoon-ssi told me to become more open to people. Being less selfish would be a part of it. Just as what someone similar to her would also say.
"Who should we let go to report if something is needed to be reported, then?"
"Jiyoon-ssi has a sensory skill. She should remain here. Gunwoo's skills seem to be very useful in combats while my defense skill is useful for blocking the entrance if it does get breached. Mingyu-ssi, you go do it if something happens."
"Okay. If you can't hold them back anymore, don't hesitate to return inside and ask us for help to fight against them. We'll definitely fight with you."
"Thanks."
