Hours later passed and we surprisingly survived three peaceful hours if we choose to ignore the screams and screeches of terror filling up the quiet night sky outside.
Until, we later found out that one of the entrances at the first floor was breached but thankfully, a guy who I think has the same shield ability as me was able to hold them off and prevent them from entering.
Who knows what could've happened if he hadn't been there.
"Hey, I feel like the one over there is different from the others." Gunwoo slowly pointed at ground floor of the small building across us.
We looked at the direction he was pointing at where we witnessed a bigger one of the same kind of monster, chasing down a woman.
"Somebody! Help me!" She cried while she ran through the infested street.
"We need to help her..." Mingyu said with his shaky voice. He was in a dilemma of helping her or letting her be eaten to not blow away our location.
"There's nothing we can do for her, Mingyu-ssi. And I know what you're thinking as well, Gunwoo."
The two of them nodded at me and they could only watch in guilt with Jiyoon-ssi, knowing they don't have a way to save her.
"Minhyuk-ssi, you seem like you're used to seeing this. Just how bad were the things you saw on the first trial?"
"Very bad... And I've seen this same kind of sight many, many times before."
The woman was soon grabbed by the insect who opened its mouth and chomped off the whole head off.
The three covered their eyes as I continued watching the sight of the insect devouring the woman until her very last body part.
"Huh? I think I'm sensing something. It's big... and above us."
The four of us slowly looked at the ceiling and there we noticed the ceiling had some cracks that weren't there before.
"You don't think...?"
We seemed to have the same thing in mind, there's either a group of monsters above us or just one of them, but a big one. A small monster that isn't in a group walking above us shouldn't be able to create cracks.
"That's right. There's group above us."
Thankfully, it was just a group. I'm not sure how we could deal with something big.
"Do we need to let Eunjoo know about this?"
"I think so..."
"Okay. Mingyu-ssi, go."
Mingyu-ssi stood up and went back to Eunjoo to let her know that a group of insects might be in the floor above us.
In the meantime, while Mingyu-ssi was heading downstairs, I used [ Momentary Shield ] to block off the staircase from the floor above to prevent any of those from entering.
"Hey, what if they just jump off the window and enter our floor through the window?"
"Shush, Gunwoo. You might jinx it."
"Haha, you two remind me of the relationship between me and my sister ever since we first met earlier." Jiyoon-ssi suddenly giggled at the two of us.
"Oh, your sister? Is she alright?" Gunwoo asked, not knowing the truth behind it.
"She's gone to a better place a long time before all of this."
"Oh. I'm sorry." Good thing, Gunwoo realized what Jiyoon-ssi meant by that.
"No, no. It's alright."
"I remembered about someone who sent flowers to my sister secretly. I wish I could've met him and told him my sister was happy during her final moments with the flowers."
"I'm sure you can meet him one day. Just not now. Probably when all of this is over."
"Minhyuk-ssi... Haha, that's the first time I've seen you smile so genuinely."
I was smiling? I didn't even noticed it. I just thought the story about someone giving her sister flowers secretly was cute. It gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling.
The three of us were having a conversation about what happened to us before the trials started when all of a sudden, a man cuts through the door with a sword.
"There are survivors... I'm so glad I'm not alone anymore." He smiled as the smiles on our faces disappeared.
I'm going to feed this man to those insects if I needed to.
The man was about to run towards us when all of a sudden, an gigantic arm of an insect just pierced through his chest.
Well deserved, I guess.
The insect entered the building and Jiyoon-ssi shot an arrow to its head before it could call more from its group.
However, there was going to be no use for the door anymore. Another insect entered to call a group and a group arrived outside. We have no choice but to fight them to prevent them from getting further inside.
"Should we fight them inside here or outside?" Gunwoo asked as we both pulled out our weapons spear.
"Let's fight them here inside. It's an open area outside. I'm not sure how strong these windows will hold if an insect tries to crash into it, though."
"Then, we're fucked up if that happens."
"Most likely."
"Hey!" Someone shouted from behind and we turned around to see Mingyu-ssi who was panting and in a hurry.
"The situation in other entrances... It's bad! They broke in!" He shouted in a panicked state.
So, it wasn't just here.
"H-How did they get inside the building?!" Gunwoo asked while the three of us followed Mingyu-ssi and avoiding to fight the monsters.
"Apparently, some people suddenly broke in the entrances and alerted the monsters to get in."
"Suspicious..."
"Huh? Did you say something, Minhyuk-ssi?" Mingyu turned his head to me.
"Yeah. A guy also broke in our entrance. These people who broke in surely worked as a group. This is either an orchestrated attack against our building." They appear to to make sense what I was saying.
"Then, what could have caused this all?"
"There's no way I would know. But if I were to guess, we've been fighting insects since yesterday. I've read an article about male spiders hypnotizing other spiders before. Perhaps, the headless spider was behind this."
"You don't think—!" I watched their eyes widen as a mischievous grin appeared on my face.
"Yeah. That enormous headless spider can hypnotize the minds of humans as well and made them attack this building."
That was just a guess. Something doesn't add up. Why didn't the spider hypnotize us when we crossed paths?
