The first insect came at us as a group from the building across. We pulled out our weapons and despite the difference in numbers, they were easier to fight than expected.
I took out my sword and swiftly slash the head of an insect in front of me to kill it in an instant. We caught a glimpse of surprise on the faces of those that chose to stay inside.
I could tell what they're thinking. It's probably about us and we're not going to last until morning as if I never upgraded my stamina. As long as I don't try to overexert myself, I might make it to morning. As for the others, maybe for being one of those that sided with me, I guess I could help them as a token of appreciation.
Just like now! I swiftly slashed an insect from behind Gunwoo and the insect was about to attack him.
Another insect came at me from behind, but I sensed them and acted quickly. I kicked them and a student from the building managed to shoot it with an arrow.
"They really can help. My expectations for children were low, but this is between low and high." I briefly chuckled before I slashed another insect with my sword.
"Some of the students here are from the archery team of our school. They won a lot of competitions before. You're lucky they were able to notice the insect." Eunjoo smirked so confidently while she bragged about the abilities of her students.
"I sensed the insect before it could reach me. They just got the insect first." I rebutted because for some reason, her grin just pisses me off.
In the corner of my eye, I noticed a group of insects coming at me. Their count was about 7-10 and I had to deal with it quickly. This was also the perfect time to test my new attack skill that I haven't used yet.
"Hey, a little help here! Anyone who can deal with large groups that's caught together!" I called for someone before I used my skill, [ Stormeye ] on them.
A strong and fast gale of wind gathered all of the insects one point, grouping them up all up in a certain place. But, none of them answered to my call for help, so they must be occupied and I had no choice but to deal with it myself.
I was about to slice them all with [ Sword Mastery ] even though I might only be ae to get rid of a few of them when all of a sudden, an arrow shot past me and obliterated all of the insects in the blink of an eye.
Looking at where the arrow came from, I saw Jiyoon-ssi who just shot an arrow. It must be a new skill. She's got some pretty strong attack skills, I have to say.
"We can keep repeating that same move in larger groups, Minhyuk-ssi!" She shouted and I had no problem with doing it again. However, she has to act quickly since [ Stormeye ] only lasts for five seconds that's why I called for help before using it. And it takes a toll on my mana as well. I have to think properly when to use it in order to not drain my mana.
"Damn, there's no end to this horde!" Gunwoo complained as he hit another one of the insects.
I expected this to last until morning that's why I bought some mana and heatlh potions at the built-in shop within.
"Just save your mana and stamina, and we might make it until morning!" Jiyoon-ssi shouted her advice to Gunwoo. Great thing that she actually understood what we had to do to last until morning.
Honestly, I'm running out of hope to last until morning. I don't even expect much from the students inside anymore. If only these useless adults inside helped us. Not only do we have to act as the bait, we have to protect the building as well.
Wait, no... Why'd I do this in the first place? Should I just abandon them? No, as long as I make people indebt to me, I can use them as tools. This is the easiest for this week. I'm sure of it. I'm going to need these people when time comes.
While every single one of us there were out there, focusing on fighting, on the other side of the city, a violent and loud explosion occured. We all turned our heads to that direction, same as the insects. They started screeching and some of them head to where it happened.
It got rid of some burden off of our shoulders. Though, we don't know if the mysterious explosion would cause more or less problems for us.
Despite the mysterious explosion, something was telling me to head there quickly. Should I go there? I don't know. Whatever lies ahead, is dangerous. Whenever there's something dangerous, I might find something useful... or rather, someone useful.
"Don't follow me." I told them and ran towards the other side of the city, passing by some insects.
"Wait, Minhyuk-ah!" Gunwoo called out and tried to chase after me, but he was stopped by the insects.
Jiyoon-ssi and Minhyuk tried to chase after me, but the insects prevented them from getting to me.
"We'll go after him later! Let's focus on the current situation! I'm sure he'll return one way or another later!" Eunjoo shouted to stop them from running after me.
"That idiot... Where is he going? He's going to kill himself!" Gunwoo complained again, unable to stop me from getting away.
I continued running while slaying the insects in my path with my sword. Something just tells me to go there no matter what. I felt like I was moving my own body unconsciously and consciously at the same time.
