Hours passed, we haven't found a place to hide in yet. We might need to fight the mentioned monsters head on. I could only hope it isn't as bad as I think they are.
"The subways are closed, buildings filled with people fighting... Where else could we hide..."
"We might need to hide at the bridge, Jiyoon-ssi... There's not a lot of people there, but it doesn't look that safe at all. There's a lot of open air."
"That does make sense..."
Jiyoon-ssi and I quickly head to the bridge where we assumed is the only we might be able to find a safe place to hide in since it'll only be a two way area unlike in the city.
We made it just in time before twelve midnight.
"There's nothing happening..."
Before I could reply to Jiyoon-ssi, blinding beams of light appeared everywhere around the city, followed by violent shaking of the ground, just like the time before the trial started.
After some time of waiting for the shaking to stop and the lights to dissipate, we heard a few steps and a loud growl coming from behind.
We turned around and there stood a wolf-like creature standing on two legs with its sharp fangs sticking out of its mouth.
"Is that..." Jiyoon-ssi tried to guess the thing that stood before us, but I grabbed her wrist and we ran away.
"No time to guess what that is, we need to run because I'm quite sure it's staring at us!"
The wolf growled at us again and chased after us on all four which was frighteningly fast. It was catching up to us on a short amount of time and we had no choice, but to fight it here.
"Jiyoon-ssi, we have to fight it here."
"Seems like it."
The two of us stopped running and Jiyoon-ssi pulls out her bow and when she pulled the string, an arrow automatically appears on her hand.
While Jiyoon-ssi aimed her bow at the speeding wolf, I pulled out my sword to charge at it before I was cut off by a loud boom.
I looked back at Jiyoon-ssi and it seems like she had just shot the bow. Seeing a faint trail of red in the air, I traced the trailed and it led to the wolf.
The wolf stopped running and grabs its chest, there we saw blood gushing out of it uncontrollably. Jiyoon-ssi couldn't have done that with a starter skill, did she?
My jaw slowly fell as I turned at Jiyoon-ssi with the shock visible in my eyes.
"Did... Did you just do that?"
"I think so..."
She's so cool. I think she broke the sound barrier earlier that's why it caused a loud boom, but if I remember clearly, breaking the sound barrier is such a loud action that it could damage your hearing, however, I can still hear things.
"Are you alright, Minhyuk-ssi? Can you hear me clearly? I think what I did was a too loud."
"No, it's loud, but not deafening either. I'll be fine."
I walked towards the wolf while Jiyoon-ssi stayed behind in case something happens, and something really did happen.
The wolf let out a very loud howl and other more howls from wolves responded. From the responses alone, we knew we were in a very bad situation. Very bad.
Wolves appeared at every direction we were at. We couldn't run away from the bridge and neither could we jump off the bridge, meaning we were trapped and our only option is to fight these things. It's better if we try, even if our chances are slim.
"I'm not sure if we'll be able to get out of this situation, but maybe we can try...?"
"Minhyuk-ssi, I'll... I'll protect you from behind so, protect me as well! Let's watch each other's backs."
"Of course."
Jiyoon-ssi aimed for the head of the same wolf from earlier and she finally killed it. The wolf's kin got furious, but Jiyoon-ssi pulled out a sword that she might have bought with the coins she got from the wolf.
The wolves charged at us, we couldn't hide the fear in our faces because of we were outnumbered and we didn't know a single thing about these things.
The first wolf landed in front of us and used its sharp and deadly claws to attempt to slash us. But I blocked the attempt with my sword in the nick of time.
I pushed back the wolf's arm using my sword to create an opening in front of it, so that Jiyoon-ssi could try and hit. She understood what I tried to do and stabbed her sword on the wolf's chest.
Seeing how powerful the way she thrust her sword, I feel like she should just use a rapier or a polearm since she was with the sword, she could be more faster. Maybe something much more suitable for thrusting.
I heard more steps from behind and I turned around to see a wolf lunge itself towards me. If I don't act fast, I might end up being gravely injured or worse, dead. So, I swung my sword and surprisingly, it cut through the wolf's arm.
I dodged the wolf's attempt to tackle me and sliced off its leg before finishing it off with a sword to the chest.
A wolf from above jumps down towards me, but before it could land on me, we both heard a loud boom and the wolf was sent flying away from me.
Seriously, this woman, Lee Jiyoon-ssi looks pretty cool right now. I don't even need know what starter skill she has. All I know it's annoyingly powerful if you were against her.
Speaking of starter skill, I haven't used my new starter skill and this might be the best time to do so.
Three wolves surrounded Jiyoon-ssi and knowing she's more adept with thrusting, but lacks a bit more speed against a crowd, I knew she was in grave danger.
[ Sword Mastery: Activate ]
I threw my sword at one of the wolves and it pierced right through the wolf easily despite being a low grade sword. But the wolf might be a low grade monster and there might be higher grades outside, so we're lucky we're just facing these ones for now, even though they're a lot.
Unknown to me, there was a string connected to my palm and sword, causing me to be suddenly pulled by the sword towards one of the wolves.
I hit the other wolf beside the one my sword just pierced through and it seemed like I just punched the wolf and pulled back the sword to my palm before finishing off the wolf with a slash to the stomach.
We've killed six wolves already, unexpectedly that easily. I guess numbers really are intimidating just like math classes.
"Let's go. We're close to crossing the bridge—"
I was cut off by a loud howl from behind and when Jiyoon-ssi and I turned around, there stood the last wolf, but it was different from the ones earlier
"I'm not sure whether my eyesight is messed up from that distance or is that wolf really big...?"
"I think the wolf's big. Either way, let's just run. We're close to crossing the bridge."
Jiyoon-ssi and I started running while the wolf chased after us from behind.
I feel like the wolf is catching up to us quickly since I think the ground is shaking every step it takes and the steps are getting louder. I wanted to turn my head back, so I did.
I turned my head and fuck my life. The wolf had both of it's claws extended to grab both me and Jiyoon-ssi.
"Motherfu—"
I pushed Jiyoon-ssi out of the way and I was grabbed by the wolf. I could feel the strength of it holding my upper body and I can tell it was fighting off the urge of crushing my bones.
Surprisingly, the wolf could speak.
"You murdered the most of my kins..." The furious wolf growled at me while the grip on my body started getting stronger.
A loud boom was heard from Jiyoon-ssi's location and we both turned our heads to see that she just shot an arrow.
The wolf caught the arrow with no effort which shocked both of us. From that point on, we both knew we had no chances against it. This wasn't the same wolf from earlier. I doubt my low grade sword would still have any effect here.
"Jiyoon-ssi... run... Run away from here! I'll try to find you somehow. I unlocked all three talent branches already with four skill twigs each. I can handle this on my own, but you might get in the way of me fighting the wolf."
Yes, I lied. I only had two talent bramchws with only a starter skill each. I don't have good equipments and neither have I upgraded. I won't last thirty seconds in a fight here.
"Go!" I shouted one more time, clearly struggling from the grip of the wolf.
"I'll come find you too, so don't die! I still owe you 50 coins!" Jiyoon-ssi hesitantly ran away as the wolf grinned at me.
"Not bad, not bad."
The wolf's strength put onto my body was getting stronger every second, I wanted to scream, but I couldn't since Jiyoon-ssi would only see through my lie.
I started losing consciousness from the pain I was feeling and the last thing I saw was that the wolf started walking away while holding me on it's hand.
