Arriving at the hospital, Christian rushed in with Jeanohntae.
Rudy and Joseph came a few minutes later. They saw Christian sitting in the waiting room with his hands on his head.
"Chris!" Rudy called out to him. "Uncle Rudy, she's with the doctor right now. She lost a lot of blood." Christian explained looking at his shirt that was stained red. Rudy started crying. "I'm sorry Uncle Rudy. I couldn't keep her safe. She's injured again. This time, it's my fault."
Rudy looked up with his teary eyes and forced a smile. "It's okay. I'm sure you tried your best."
"It's not okay. I didn't try hard enough." Christian sighed.
"Son, you can't blame yourself. The important part is that you're both still alive. That's all that matters right now." Joseph added.
A few minutes later, Nikki and Nellie came running in acting like they were worried. "What happened!??" Nikki asked in a frantic voice. "Brother Chris, I'm sorry. If I had known that the Ferris Wheel would do that, I would not have let Jeanohntae ride it." Nellie looked down with tears and sorrow.
Christian looked at Nellie and sighed. "It's fine. It's not your fault. No one could have predicted what happened."
A glint of happiness came over Nellie and a smirk appeared on her face, but it soon disappeared as she continued to look as she had regrets. The mother and daughter duo were extremely good actors.
An hour later, the doctor came out and saw them all stand. He looked at Christian with his bloody shirt and spoke. "She's okay. She has a concussion and is resting. She should be fine within a week. I also notice that her back has not fully healed and was inflamed. I believe she was in pain and didn't relax her back." The doctor added.
Christian frowned. 'She never said she was hurting. I think that is the reason she was slowing down. That's why she was in a hurry to ride the Ferris Wheel. She wanted to relax her back. Why didn't she say anything!??" Christian was beating himself up in his head.
"Thank you doctor!" Joseph said while Rudy was in tears again.
Christian finally snapped out of it. "Yes! Thank you doctor."
Rudy walked up to the doctor and asked. "Can I see my daughter now!??"
"Yes you can. Please follow me." The doctor guided them to Jeanohntae's room.
"I do recommend more rest when she is released. She seems to be in bad pain. Not too much noise as her head will start to hurt." The doctor said before walking away.
They all nodded and Joseph slowly opened the door. She was laying on her stomach with a bandage around her head sleeping. They all gave out a sigh of relief except for Nellie and Nikki who were furious she still survived.
Rudy walked up to Jeanohntae and placed a light kiss on her cheek. "Uncle, you can go home and relax. I'll take care of her and call you if she wakes up." Christian said looking at Jeanohntae sleeping.
"Come, I'll bring you home to rest for a while." Joseph said. He turned to look at Christian. "I'll come back and drop you a fresh pair of clothes for you as well." Christian and Rudy both nod and Rudy followed Joseph. They stop at Nikki and Nellie. "Let's go. I'll take you guys home to pack a few items so you guys to stay at a friends place for a while." Joseph said in a cold voice.
Nikki and Nellie were stunned. "Uh.... Okay then." Nikki said. 'Did he know it was us!??'
They all left the ward and left Christian alone. He stared blankly at Jeanohntae. Nothing was in his mind. He couldn't think or even move. He was motionless for a few minutes.
He sat down and just stared at Jeanohntae. "I'm sorry sweetheart. I couldn't protect you. You still got hurt in the end. I'm sorry." He couldn't stand staring at Jeanohntae like that. He went to the bathroom and splashed his face with cold water. He looked at the cold eyes staring back at him in the mirror.
He wanted to punch the face staring back at him. He was so angry. Just then, he heard the door to the ward open. He opened the door to the bathroom a little to see who it was. It's was Nikki and Nellie. Christian was confused.
'I thought they left with dad. What are they doing here!??' Christian was getting a little suspicious.
"Ugh! I can't believe this. Why is she still alive!??" Nellie grunted.
"It's okay. There is still time. She's only alive because Christian was with her. We'll get her next time." Nikki said.
'What! They were behind this!?? They did this to her!?? Are they trying to get rid of her!??' Christian was furious. He was staring daggers at the back of their head. He wanted to come out and say something; but he wanted to hear more. 'What are they planning!??'
"Where is Christian anyways!??" Nellie asked curiously.
"He probably went to talk to the doctor or get something to drink. We should leave before he gets back and suspects something." Nikki said as they walked out.
When Christian heard the door close, he came out. His face was red and full of anger. He could not believe his stepmother and stepsister would be so cruel. His face darkened from the anger in his heart.
He looked at Jeanohntae and his face soften. He was still gloomy but he knew he had to do something to protect her.
An hour later, Joseph came back with a pair of clothes for Christian to change out of the bloody mess he was in. He even brought Jeanohntae clothes for when she wakes up. As Joseph was leaving, he ordered flowers to be delivered to Jeanohntae's ward.
The next day, Jeanohntae woke up to a bunch of flowers and Christian sleeping sitting up holding her hand. Jeanohntae blushed and smiled at the sight before her.
A WEEK LATER.
"Son, you need to go back to work. We'll be here to watch her." Joseph sand Rudy smiled at Christian in assurance.
Christian could only sigh and nod. "Call me if she when she will be released."
"Christian, I'll be okay. You need to work. Don't stress yourself like this." Jeanohntae gave a warm smile and Christian's heart felt like it was melting.
"What do you mean don't stress!?? When it comes to you, I'll always stress." Christian smile. Before Jeanohntae can respond with some sincere, Christian walked close to her and added. "Because I know your brain doesn't work as well as mine. Your bound to injure yourself again. Don't you need a Prince Charming like me." He said with a huge smile.
Jeanohntae was shocked by his words. Any thoughts of having a sincere respond flew out the window after Christian's remark. "Jerk!" Jeanohntae pushed Christian away and pouted.
Christian could help himself but laugh. "It's been a while since I've teased you like that."
Joseph and Rudy joined him in his laughter. Jeanohntae joined them laughing not long after.
