"Finally you are here!"
A loud squeal woke Kara up and put her on alert. She crouched on the bed ready to spring with her dagger in her hands. Sitting on her bed was a blonde girl, some strands had been dyed green. Her expression was that of excitement.
Carefully, Kara got off the bed on the other side. She subtly touched her beanie to make sure her hair was covered. All her life, miss Humphrey had made sure she had her hair covered.
~There are people who must not see your hair. It is for your own good, you'll know soon enough~
She pushed the thought of miss Humphrey to the back of her mind, silently hoping she was alright.
"Who are you?" Kara asked with a cold expression.
The Griffin watched them both.
"I'm Olivia Hartridge but you can call me Liv. I'm principal Hartridge's daughter. I've heard so much about you, father told me you would arrive soon. I didn't know it would be this soon if not I'd have decorated your room." The girl rambled and stood up to pull her into a hug.
Kara pushed her away and put her dagger back in its pouch by her waist.
"Principal? Don't tell me this is a school." She snarled and walked out of the room. Trying to remember how they'd walked, she busted into the study room which she now noticed was a office. Liv was right behind her.
"Why am I in a school?" She slammed her palms on the desk.
Principal Hartridge glanced up slowly, unfazed by her attitude.
"Hmm, Bob told me to expect such attitude. But with the circumstance, I guess its expected." He said, amusement shining bright in his eyes.
Kara glared at him and sat on the chair before him. Liv sat beside her.
"You didn't wake her gently Liv." He turned to his daughter with a scolding gaze. She shrank in her chair and nodded with a sweet smile.
He sighed and turned to Kara. "I'm sure you have a lot of questions. They'll all come to light in due time, but for now, I'll tell you what I can."
She gave him a bored expression and tapped her fingers on the arm of the chair she was seated.
"Your name is Kara Cahill. 17 years ago you were taken from your family for your protection. You were viewed as a threat to the realms..."
"Realms?" She asked, now her curiosity was fully awake.
Principal Hartridge pushed a book towards her and continued.
"You'll find everything needed in there but I'll summarise it for you. Torpazae and Armlad... torpazae consists of the elementals and the wolves. The armlad consists of the shadows and mind weavers. And ofcourse the realm of humans. Then there are the sisters. They were a balance, the regulators of the realm. They only interfered when necessary... they never had affairs. No child was to be born from them. The sisters were chosen whenever one was on the verge of death. But that's not the point."
He rubbed his temple, as much as he hated that he had to talk about this, he had no choice. Right now, he was the only one available to do so. Damn it Bob!
"So let me guess, I'm meant to be a sister?" Kara asked with a frown, she'd moved to the edge of her seat. All she was hearing felt like something out of a story book. This people were probably crazy but she loved stories.
Principal Hartridge sighed. "If only it was that simple. One of the sisters, Anastasia Deville, fell in love with a wolf, an alpha, and had a child. The balance broke, there was a shift in power. Nature was furious and so were the sisters. Word spread that a sister had begotten a child, at first all was well. Nothing out of the ordinary happened. Then on the child's one year birthday, words appeared on the walls of each realm. They were all the same. A prophecy to probably doom the world, a consequence. No one truly understood and many didn't care, they all just wanted to kill the child. You are that child Kara. And for your own good, you had to be hidden."
The room was silent as Kara processed everything she just heard. She was a freaking abomination! Of all the things she could have been, nature chose to make her an abomination. It was strange but she believed him, every word.
"Why now? Why come for me now? Why wasn't I left alone , forgotten?" She asked as she leaned back and wrapped her arms around her knees.
"Your father suspected that the people against you would later find you, so he assigned three guardians to you. Bob the hawk, myself and Dimitri. But sadly, word of where you were leaked some months ago and disturbance began in the realm." He looked to the door. "Come in Dimitri."
The reality of everything crashed down on her and she started feeling light headed. Someone... no, people wanted her dead. She was a mistake that should never have happened. Why did she have to pay for someone else breaking the law? She didn't care that that someone was her mother. Using an excuse such as love to break the rules was the most annoying thing she'd ever heard, especially when SHE had to suffer for it.
"Earth to Kara." Someone chuckled beside her.
The presence was so much familiar that it got her attention. The scent of the man. Angrily and swiftly, she jumped and tackled him to the ground with her dagger by his throat.
"One reason why I shouldn't slit your throat?" She growled, her animal side surfacing.
He pushed her and pinned her beneath him. "I guess you have gotten sloppy."
"Guess again." Mustering all her strength she jabbed his abdomen with her knee. The force of it sent him over her head.
Before she could turn to attack, something held her in place. It was like she had lost control of her body.
"That is enough Kara, I think he got your point." Principal Hartridge said with an amused smile.
Liv stared at her with a proud look. When she felt free from whatever was holding her, she jumped up and ran to the window.
"Why should I trust any of you? How do I know you haven't changed your mind and don't want me dead? What did you do to me?" She glared at them, ready to bolt.
"If I wanted you dead, don't you think I'd have fried your mind the minute you walked into my office." Hartridge replied sarcastically. "Your mind controls your movement, I control minds."
"For starters, I didn't know you could control minds or that people like you existed. You could be a sadist that wants me to suffer. I trust you and you manipulate me or break me in the cruelest ways possible. Maybe you are controlling my mind and it is why I haven't left yet." Kara replied, squinting her eyes.
Liv stepped forward. "Father would never do such a thing. He is only in your mind so that you will stay calm about all this. He and your father have been friends since they were kids, protecting you is like protecting me for him. Your father would do the same if the situation was reversed " she explained. She wanted Kara to trust her, the poor girl needed a friend.
A groan broke the silence. Dimitri stood up clutching his abdomen. He grinned at Kara and straightened his back.
"You haven't forgotten the things I taught you." He beamed and moved towards her.
Not moving, she glared at him and snapped. "You disappeared. No goodbyes nothing. I thought you were dead!"
He smiled sheepishly. "I had no choice. People were beginning to suspect my movement."
"Fair enough." She said. She felt so tired. It was like all the pent up emotions were ready to spill.... and they did.
