There was a knock on the door and Dimitri walked in. He found Kara staring out her window at the woods it faced. She looked to him with a nervous smile. His niece.
"You are a sight by the window princess." He said and bowed mockingly which make her laugh. "Are you excited for your big day?"
He sat on the bed and leaned on its poles.
"In a way, yes." She answered.
He smiled thoughtfully. "Teenagers can be vicious, don't let them put you down but don't lose control either. Can't afford for your powers to show."
She stood up and came to sit beside him. "I know I know. So what's my story?"
"Mara is a Cahill but her father is your father's cousin. So we are going to say you are Alonzo's long lost niece, that will explain why you are a Cahill also. You lived with the humans after your mother died and studied how they were. You thought you were the only wolf till I came for you, under Alpha Alonzo's orders ofcourse. The woman we are using as your mother was Alonzo's sister, Ini, who lived and died in the human realm. Just that no one really knew about her so that's fitting. It would also explain why you somewhat look like Alonzo." He explained.
"I'm curious. What about the hawk? No one said anything about there being other realms." She asked with a frown.
Dimitri sighed. "Bob was a mind weaver. Friends with your father and Gregory... Hartridge. He was also the only one who had ever seen your mother, besides your father ofcourse."
"Was?" She gulped, she could guess what came next.
Dimitri stood up." I'm sure you've guessed that he died. We don't know who attacked him but we are investigating. We can't make it obvious cause it would lead whoever they are back to us... back to you. He was a good man and no... his death is not your fault. It was just his time." He pulled her into a hug.
She sniffed, she remembered now. Bob had played with her, he had been the one to give her the locket. But before he left every time, he placed his hand on the side of her head.
~You need to forget me for now sweet child. One of these days you won't have to forget anymore, but till then... stay safe.~
And he would leave.
"Now enough with the sad gloomy atmosphere. Phew... thankfully your room has melted. And don't worry about Griffin, he is fine. He just needs to be away from public eye." Dimitri said and walked to the door.
They had taken Griffin somewhere safe for now.
"Oh and Kara, Griffin was a gift from your mother... and the locket you wear around your neck." With that, he left her to her thoughts.
But not for long... Liv busted into her room.
"Its assembly time and father wants to introduce you to the school." Liv said excitedly and dragged Kara out.
"Wait what? The entire school?" Kara exclaimed, her mind racing and trying to think of how to get out of it.
Liv nodded.
They were a sight to be seen as they hurried to the hall. Where Liv was curvy and a 5"4, Kara was slim with little boobs and filled hips. She was tall, a 5"7. Average but tall beside most girl. She wore jean trousers and black, white soled, sneakers under a long sleeved baggy top and grey beanie. Liv wore a green dressed with brown sandals, her hair falling to her shoulders.
She led Kara to the side of the podium and they listened to her father talk.
".... that you are all back. We hope for a successful year again this year, like always. This time we have a new student in the senior class. Kara Cahill, come on up." He said and gestured to her.
Nervously, she rubbed her sweaty palms and climbed the podium. She avoided looking at people and only nodded. Soon her distress was over and she was allowed to leave. The students dispersed.
"See, that wasn't so bad." Liv laughed as she led her to the cafeteria for breakfast.
"Excuse me... I thought I was going to die." Kara whispered and they went to sit at a table.
"Well well well, if it isn't the little Hartridge and the new girl." Someone said and placed his hands on their table.
Liv gritted her teeth. "What do you want Knight?"
"Oh come one, don't say you didn't miss me Love." The boy laughed and sat beside her. Three other guy settled by their table.
Kara groaned. This was a little too cliche.
"Hey new girl, hmm you are yummy to look at." A red haired boy winked at her and placed his hand on her lap, scooting closer.
With a frown, she shoved his hand away and turned to Liv. The girl was red in the face.
"Are this your boys?" Kara whispered to Lily and the girl nodded.
"The boys not my boys." She replied.
Before Kara could speak, someone pulled her beanie. With reflex she turned and slammed the person to the floor. Her hair fell to her back. Gritting her teeth, she glared at the red haired boy with her hand around his throat.
The cafeteria had gone silent.
"Love the hair new girl." He croaked, trying to pry her fingers off him.
Her nails grew a bit longer like a wolf's and made a small cut on his jaw. It drew blood.
"Under no circumstance should you ever touch me again." She sneered.
Liv grabbed her arm and whispered. "He is not worth it. Come on, let's go."
Releasing a breath to put her anger under control, Kara shoved him away and wore her beanie. Without looking back, she began walking away.
●Nice moves wolf girl. ●
Kara stopped and looked around. Someone had spoken in her head, frustrated she walked out with Liv.
"Hey, is it possible for someone to speak in my head? You know... without reading my mind or something." She stopped Liv once they were outside.
Her friend frowned and nodded. "Well yeah, but the person has to be very skilled. Did some.... Klaus!"
Kara turned as the familiar name registered in her head. A brown haired boy walked towards them. He had a grin on his face and was that... wolf ears popping out of his hair?
"Do you see the wolf ears too?" She asked Liv as she stared at her supposed step brother.
"Yup. You have one too." Lily replied and pulled the boy into a hug. He looked a year or two younger with the boyish face.
Her hand flew to her head and true enough, she felt the wolf furry ears. Perfect. Just perfect.
"Hey..." She began saying as he boy got close but he pulled her into a hug and whispered.
"Hello sister." He chuckled. "I finally get to meet you after all these years. I can't really talk so much here, people would probably listen on it. A wolf's ear is sharp enough to pick the faintest whispers at times. Dimitri told us to run down to the river and back, we'll talk there."
His eyes twinkled when he pulled away and grinned at her. Then he said out loud. "I hear you are quite the runner Kara, let's see what you are made off."
She hesitated but smiled. She was curious. "Sure, let's see what the wolves of the forest can do. Don't disappoint me"
He laughed and turned to Liv ."Call it for us baby girl."
Lily nodded, her cheeks were hot. Damn that boy knew how to charm a girl. They turned and got ready.
"On your mark... get set... go!" And she was left in their dust.
Kara laughed as she ran through the forest, remembering the part she took last night. The smell of the earth, the leaves, and the water as she got closer, made her happy.
She was seated on the floor, grinning, when Klaus showed up. He laughed.
"Dimitri didn't lie when he said you could move. That was amazing." He said, he was truly amazed. At first, he thought he was going to meet a snob for a sister. But she... she was more than he hoped for. He had watched her every move since the assembly.
Kara smiled. "I try."
Klaus sat beside her and stared at her. He began. "All my life I heard about you, father told me how amazing you had grown. How it hurt him that he couldn't see you for himself."
"Why can't he?"
Klaus sighed. "When you were born, Mara's dad found you. Or rather you, your mom and dad. Sure he didn't recognise that she was a "sister" but he knew she wasn't a wolf. We always recognise our own. A year later when things began to fall apart, he pieced together everything and guessed that you were the child spoken about. He challenged father. Your mother was gone by then and father was hurting. Father won the battle but had to fake your death. He married my mother and had me, but they say he was never the same again. Mara's dad had no proof, so..."
"I don't understand, couldn't they have lied or something. Pretended I wasn't the child. Found a way out without... without sending me away." She growled and stood up.
"If it was that easy, they would have done that. Mara's father has kept watch over us, he is still suspicious. You have no idea how it felt for father who lost the woman he loves and his child." Klaus tried to make her understand.
"Loves?" Kara frowned.
Klaus smiled sadly. "Love is strange. Even though she deceived him, he still loves your mother. Mother and I understand that. He loves us too, maybe just differently but he never treated us less."
"So why don't you hate me? I'm the cause of world issues apparently... war between realms. Your father not loving you." Kara said quietly and held her breath.
Klaus shook his head and got up to hug her. "None of it is your fault, so why should I hate you. The one person I hate is your mother. "
