With gentleness Cresencia slowly transferred the sleeping rabbit on her bed. She hurriedly thought of ways to tell her parents that she would purchase a pet from a pet store. She heard knocking from her door. She stiffened and pulled a hairbrush over. And then she combed her hair, fixed her clothes, and went out of the room.
"Good morning, young lady. Breakfast is ready," the nanny announced.
The prominent family of Qin's first branch has three nannies. One was someone who had the highest position in the household over the years, and she was the nanny of her father. The second was the maid of rights trusted to care for her mother and elder brothers. And the last one was for her younger siblings, the sole runner, who guards the kids and takes care of them when their parents are at work.
She never had a nanny here since she grew up with her grandparents. The servants assigned to her were old palace maids who took care of her grandparents. And there were also those aunts that pampered her to becoming spoiled. But despite the luxury she was living, she was still treasured and sent to join the army.
The masters who taught her were all high-ranking or retired officials. They believed that women could learn the art of war. And that she is no exemption, she should lead the soldiers to the battlefield and protect the lives of the citizens. Which, by then, became a reason for her to be unruly.
When she went on military missions with large groups, she used different colors of hair dyes and cross-dressing techniques. One of her usual roles was always the bait, someone who lures criminals into the trap. But her grandparents find it unbearable to see her participate in more dangerous tasks as she grew up. They decided to prohibit her from going back to the camp and agreed to her parents' arrangements.
Cresencia earned merits, medals, and titles from her missions. She was also granted an early authority in the army. She retired from her job, but a place in the military will wait for her. People are waiting for her to return to service one day. The government recognized her accomplishments alone, but it was all kept hidden from the public due to her particular identity.
"I got it, thank you--" she was about to run downstairs to get to the dining room, yet she remembered something that made her pause and turn back.
"Lady, are you okay?" nanny Grace asked.
"I am, yeah-- uh nanny, please don't let anyone enter my room today."
"I will inform the servants' miss."
"Thank you, nanny, be sure to eat breakfast!"
She ran down and greeted her parents with a sweet good morning.
"Did something happen lately?" her mother asked.
"Nothing peculiar, mom-- I want to go to a nearby pet store to buy a rabbit today, yes, uh, I want a pet! A cute pet--"
"A bunny? Would you want me to prepare a cage for it?" her dad asked
"No, dad, um-- I was hoping to get your permission for this matter and let my bunny roam freely, I promise-- I'll take care of it 24/7 without reservations" she knew that Miku is still a mythical beast, and his IQ is higher than a human being, so creating a mess is not possible because he is not just an ordinary pet
"Cie, I never thought you're also a fan of cute little things. Some time ago, I remembered-- wasn't you who volunteered to buy a lion as a pet?" Leonardo recalled, confused with his sister's odd behavior
"Not necessarily, brother, I'm also a woman, and I like cute pets too!" she denied his claim
"Would you want mom to accompany you, dear? I have friends from a well-known hospital within the city, one of them is an accomplished veterinarian, and we've been together since high school days," her mother suggested, but she found it troublesome
"Thank you, mom, but I want to do things independently today, and I'd love to try your veterinary expert recommendation," she answered thoughtfully, but her heart was pounding irregularly fast within her chest
"You've grown up, my dear. Take more guards later, okay, and keep safe," her mom replied, convinced that her daughter wanted some time alone
"I will tell mom, thank you for trusting me" she hoped that things would turn out for the better
Time flew fast. Cresencia safely got Miku into an elite pet store with a large bag at hand. Instead of buying a pet, she was there to purchase pet accessories and necessities. There were several rabbit houses, and they also offered customized designs. Since her time was tight, she and Miku decided to buy the largest pet house.
The veranda attached to her room was vast, so a massive pet house was not a problem. There were also litter boxes, a rabbit's little bed with soft waterproof beddings, urine absorbent pads, wood and paper pellets, and a contract of long fresh greens (leaves).
"Miku, we need to have a checkup today, or else mom would be worried."
The bunny understood, and it stayed calm throughout their journey.
The vet, her mom, was talking about was her father's adopted sister. She was very good at handling animals and was one of the industry's leading experts.
"Hello, Aunt, my mom sent me here to have a consultation."
"Cie, how are you? I'm glad to see you here!"
"I am fine, auntie-- how about you?"
"I am well. Is this your bunny?"
"Yes, auntie"
"Come, settle him here and let's take a look."
She stood by the side as a series of tests were conducted on Miku. Cresencia felt nervous. Miku is not an average pet. And what if her aunt discovers something?
Miku is a character that you can only find in ancient texts. Technology manipulation or measurement won't work for her guardian, so that anomalies may occur during the test. Cresencia's hands began to sweat as she cautiously observed the data flashing on the screen.
"Wow! It surprises me, and I think one of our equipment might have some technical issues" she pondered for a while but found no reasons to share
"What happened, auntie?"
