Chapter 3 - Gold Ocean

If there was one thing apparent to Eren, this is not the same world he has known before. At first glance, it may appear to be the early Iron age of humanity when big boons of technology started to happen in rapid succession. But it doesn't seem Iron would be that big of a deal here... especially when magic is thrown into the equation.

This was a massive whirlwind of information to Eren, who witnessed a maid clean an entire table with nothing but a hand swipe from a distance. It was marvelously beautiful, a crystal clear blue circle with green linings coursing its way throughout doing something that defied all of his logic for something so trivial.

Eren has only just left his room outside on the second floor of an inn called 'Tap-Taps Cheer' written on a nearby sign.

The inn was located outside the main city walls to pass tourists in the farmlands. There was a nice cobble road not so far away with a gravel trail towards the inn, and surrounding Eren was long barley fields gently swaying in the wind like a golden ocean with the sunrise exuberating the vibrancy.

"Beautiful, simply... wow!" Eren was simply blown away by the most gorgeous sight he's ever seen.

Eren really didn't think anything could ever beat this sight until he saw it, a floating castle in the distance peeking past the large walls surrounding it. 'I don't know where the hell I am... but I'm in love!'

"This is exactly how any new journey should start with being transported to a fantasy world!" Luckily nobody heard him say this, otherwise, he would have to endure some strange looks.

Eren took a moment to engrain the image he was seeing into the deepest parts of his memory. It was extremely soothing to calm down the hidden anxiety building up within him even if he realized it or not. A smile was slowly plastered onto his face that looked eerily similar to a pervert looking at his next target.

'Magic... magic, MAGIC! MAGIC!?' Eren, even when he was still Daniel, he as always dreamed with his overreactive imagination to wield magic one day. This was a dream come true, and he immediately tried using it without any prior knowledge of how to with the laws of this world.

He closed his eyes and stuck his hand out like he was reaching for something and tried his hardest to focus on his fingertips. He tried guiding an imaginary 'something' to funnel its way out of his hand, but nothing happened, or at least nothing he could sense. "Sigh, I was really hoping I'd be some genius or something." He laughed to himself in a defeated manner, 'But this doesn't mean anything, I'll just need to be taught... hopefully.'

"First order of business, I need to be aware of my surroundings, I need to blend in..." Cupping his chin with his thumb and index finger he has begun to think to himself... out loud like an idiot. 'Oops, I really need to stop talking to myself, It'd be bad if somebody heard me.' Once again he was lucky as nobody was there to witness his actions.

'I know what the letter is, I placed a drop of blood on my token so it can't be stolen, the only thing I have left is this pouch of coins. I need to figure out a coin's worth.'

He walked down the stairs to the outside dining where people were either eating or gambling. "I wouldn't trust gambling when magic is a thing." Eren said this to himself but the man sitting on a bench behind him spoke, "The dice they're using alert the players when a certain amount at mana density is detected, it's pretty cheap to make for only a silver coin."

Eren was a little surprised somebody actually responded, he was simply a normal-looking man wearing a green tunic. "Oh? I didn't know that since I don't gamble, I don't know if it's worth a silver coin... what if I wanted regular dice?" Eren was trying to steer the verbal direction towards the value of the dice, while the mana density was interesting, he wants to know the value of his coins.

"Huh, I can tell you it's worth the price, but I see you're not buying. Well... if you wanted normal dice it'd be like 10cc. I'm a clerk at the general goods store down the path, you should check us out!" This was good information for Eren, not only could he surmise that 'cc' is a lower denomination of silver coins but by using basic economic skills, he can assume that's a tenth or maybe a hundredth of a silver coin. Also, he now has a shop that he knows the location of that sells general goods to spend his coins at possibly.

"Sure, I may visit you in the future, I look forward to it!" After that, Eren turned around and left to look around a little more. The clerk was simply happy to have another customer.

Around an hour later Eren found himself sitting on a bench staring at the cobbled road towards the capital. Eren simply eavesdropped on conversations but didn't learn anything partially helpful, only some general tips for random street life and manners, it turns out his old world and this new one are quite similar.

'Sigh, I know too little... but with due time will I learn.' A gentle wind breezed through pushing the smell of booze away.

The travelers varied a lot, sometimes he will see rough-looking bandit-like men, and other times he sees well-dressed men with a hint of arrogance. The duality is quite strange sometimes, but there were many in-betweens with both genders. The road was well used.

'I decided, I will visit the general store and maybe buy myself some things I see as essential. It appears that carrying a sword is normal, I've always wanted one... I'll just see later.'

If Eren had to guess, it'd be around 8 am; this is enough time to visit the store and go to the capital. He learned a lot, but to learn more he needs to leave now. He has always wanted this kind of freedom, now he has it.

'Now that I think about it... I don't think I'll ever see my family again.' This did manage to dampen his mood, but for some reason, it was only slighty dampened... "Strange." He didn't really have an answer to his dull emotions about his past life, it's as if it was old memories that don't really matter anymore.

"Eh, it's for the best. It'll only make life harder for me..."

With that sorted, he stood up and stretched preparing to start his first adventure in this new world.
