Chapter 4 - General Shop

*A/N: I will switch the Pov from 3rd person to 1st, sorry for any inconvenience*

Walking down the cobbled road, I enjoyed the scenery around me. The sound of rustling from the farmland nearby, the houses of a farmer in the distance, and the backdrop of a grove far off would make a great painting.

The walls of the city are still far but with every step, it slowly grows in my vision. I look forward to reaching it, but I wish to visit the shop that the man suggested.

-Rumble-

I turned my head to look behind me to see the incoming sound. It was a wagon being pulled by a horse with a man and a child sitting in the front. Their pace was much faster than mine and soon went past me. The child in the front was kicking his legs off the side of the wagon and waved at me, it was sweet. I soon heard the father tell his son that I was a stranger and not to interact with everyone, which is understandable.

This served as a reminder to me that this world is indeed real, and everyone here has their own lives to worry about. I only slightly felt a small smile on my face at the thought of that.

I continued walking, I didn't encounter anyone else on a wagon and soon found myself in front of a small shop's door. I didn't know what I was looking for at first but I soon reached a small gravel path that lead to a store-like building with the word 'General' on it.

I took a slight breath before opening the door, this is my first time having to deal with this in this world, and only knew a little of what to expect.

-Ring-

There was a small bell at the top of the door to alert whoever that there was a new visitor. It looked very similar to a pawn shop, this was my first impression of the store. I didn't know what I was looking for exactly, so I simply started browsing the wares.

There was a lot of stuff, some of it was interesting. There were a lot of farm-related items on the shelf and hanging on the wall. 'I'm not too interested in farming, I'll look in another part of the store.'

A middle-aged man was manning the counter near the entrance that I walked past earlier, he didn't seem to care that much about my existence but I can feel he was keeping a small eye on me to see if I was possibly stealing. There wasn't much to see around the store, but I knew I needed a weapon since almost everyone I've seen had a weapon of some sort.

I looked around and saw a small corner of the store holding simple-looking blades. There were shortswords, and daggers primarily. I did not see a price for them anywhere, 'Look's like I'm going to have to barter a little. This is a good way to learn more about currency here.'

I grabbed both a shortsword and a dagger since I don't know which I can afford. I wished to get myself some armor to cover my vitals since that was also common, but I don't see any here and I don't think I could afford that.

I brought both to the counter wishing to purchase. "Hey, can I know the price you're placing on these?" The man slowly sat up straight and looked at the two blades and thought for a moment, "50 copper for the dagger and 2 silver for the sword. No negotiation." I only have 10 silver to spend, I also don't need both. 'It also appears that cc is the short term for the copper coin, that's good to know.' "I'll take the sword for 2 silver, also I'm short on copper do you think you can break a silver for me?"

I decided to go for the shortsword since I'll feel safer with it and I also decided to break a silver coin to double-check whenever I guess that 100cc is equal to 1sc is correct.

"Sure since you're purchasing something, but I'm no bank..." The man behind the counter slightly grumbled and took the 3 silver coins I gave him. I grabbed the sword and waited for the man to count the copper in front of me. "That's 100 copper, have a good day." He waved me off and I left the store.

'I guess that confirmed my hypothesis about the value of coins, I wonder if there's a higher denomination... probably like gold coins.'

I continued my walk to the city and resumed observing my surroundings. It was slightly past noon at this point and it will probably take a few more hours to reach the gate of the city. I fiddled with the new sword I now own as I walked, it was my first ever and I honestly can't stop looking and playing with it.

A few hours later, I found myself in a line to enter the city. There were two lines on each side of the road, one side which was the side I was on was for those on foot and the other was for wagons and merchants I assume. The father and child I have seen earlier were 2nd to last, a wagon must've passed by when I was in the shop.

I did a glance at the line in front of me hoping maybe I might see a classmate who was with me in the incident but I didn't see anyone, not like I will recognize them anyways since I have a new body. I gauged that the line will probably take around half an hour for it to get to me, so I could only patiently wait.

The giant gate in front of the line was a marvel view to take in, it screamed magic-medieval fantasy. 'I want to learn magic, I really do.' The gate served as another reminder that this is a new world with many new mysteries to discover.

It didn't take very long for it to finally reach me in the line, I observed those in front of me go through the process so I knew what to do and was already prepared. "Civilian or visitor?" The guard who was armed with full plated armor asked, "Visitor" I replied. I already knew the fee to enter so I took out a silver coin and gave it to the guard who then let me enter.

I can't see too much through the slightly ajar gate since, so I was anticipating what was waiting for me. A smile was on my face, I was aware this made me seem like a country boy who was unaware of the world... which is exactly what I am. This got me a snicker from the guard "Welcome to the capital".

I then took a step through the gate.
