Chapter 42 - The female samurai and the monk. Part 1

The house was pitch-black and it was eerily quiet. Water coming from the still running tap in the kitchen was the only sound that pierced through the silence.

It would be a mistake to think that the lights went out as soon as the two figures went into the house through the window, as it was only a few seconds after they went in that the place went dark.

At the front door of the house, black smoke seeped through under the locked door. If Son-join had seen Nolamine's fight and was by the door, he would have noticed that the smoke was the same as that of the beast he had fought in the parking lot.

After a moment of it silently gathering by the door, the black smoke slowly turned into two humanoid creatures that were the size of goblins but thin and clouded in black cloth, used to cover only their lower parts.

Their faces looked like those of goblins but with their teeth menacing like those of carnivores. They had claws for hands and their feet like those of humans.

They silently walked through the house, smelling the air as they did. Without making a sound, one went to the kitchen and the other walked up the steps to where the bedrooms were.

The one that went to the kitchen stopped when it reached the tap. It jumped up as it was too short and held the sink. It then smelled around it, then it growled as it turned to a particular wall that was by the fridge.

The wall looked normal but it went there with its guard up and ready to attack at any moment.

Up the steps, the other one had reached Son-join's room. The door was opened and it stepped in, sniffing the air. It wasted no time as it went to his bed. It was on edge and unlike the other one, it was fast with its actions, like it wanted to get over with what they were there for quickly.

It found nothing there and looked all over the room. It got frustrated as it found nothing and it was about to leave and search the other rooms until the full moon's light shone into the room. Its light coming in through the window.

It had made a rooky mistake anyone who had played hide and seek in a house would never do. That was to always look under the bed and it hadn't. It turned as it noticed something shining as the moon's light bounced off of it. It was oval-shaped and it would swear that it could see its image from how polished it was.

It let out its claw and poked it, curious to see such a thing. To its surprise, it was not hard but soft to the touch. It had used its claw to poke at it and when it did, it started to turn red and its eyes went wide with intrigue.

"Graaaa!!!"

A scream came from its companion in the kitchen, making it turn and focus downstairs.

"You little shit, who are you poking!!! That hurt damn it!"

The voice of an old man came from underneath the bed. A pole extended outward, hitting the monster on its chest while it was still surprised by the scream coming from the kitchen.

The impact made it roll out of the bedroom and into the hallway, hitting the wall as it stopped. Out from underneath the bed came Mr. Woo, the principal of the school that Son-join and Nolamine went to.

His head was already red, together with his face as he steamed with anger.

"I should have used a charm for hiding, then one for masking our presence. But, there was no time."

He said as Son-join came out with him. He was still surprised by what was happening. He took a look at the monster that was now standing up and his stomach turned in on itself.

He looked at Mr. Woo and looked at the pole he was holding. It had been as big as a pencil when he took it out and now it was two meters long. Not only that, but Mr. Woo had come into his room and put his hand over his mouth as he went under the bed with him then used some kind of yellow paper charm that he placed on the floor. AS soon as he did, the written part of it lit up and then vanished.

In the kitchen a moment ago, the monster had gone to the wall while it continued sniffing about. It could smell two people there, but none of them was the one it was there for.

The problem was that it could smell them but could not see them. The wall looked like just a normal wall that was part of the house. It stood in front of it and just as the other had done, it poked it using one of its claws.

But, before it could even touch the wall, its arm went flying, landing a distance away from it. A katana had chopped it off and with that action, two women appeared from the wall as the Concealment Charm was undone.

It was Son-join's mother and Miss Park. The charm Miss Park had cast made them be concealed as they stood still against the wall, but she had no time to cast another one to mask their presence and so, it could still smell them.

It cried out loud as the pain finally took over it. Its arm disappeared just like the Canabris had done after it was killed. Mrs. Lee was so afraid that she could do nothing.

The only thing that gave her hope was that she knew the person that had grabbed her and pinned her against the wall right after the lights went out. Since she knew Miss Park, she just stood there, terrified as the creature that she could hardly see because it was still dark cried out.

She looked at her katana and thanked the fact that whatever was happening, Miss Park at least looked like she was there to protect them.

The katana looked nothing but priceless. It was more breathtaking than Mi-sun's and unlike hers, its intricate writings were more pronounced and went all through the blade of the katana. Whoever had made it had taken his time as it looked like he had poured his soul in the process of making the sword. It almost looked mythical.

She stepped forward, and she came between the creature and Mrs. Lee. The fury on the creature's face could choke a child to death. It wanted to rip her limb from limb.

Upstairs, Son-join stepped back as Mr. Woo stepped forward, his old brown jacket floating about as he walked. Son-join did not know whether he was now trying to look cool or it was just his temperament.

"Do not worry. We will take care of this."

He said, his demeanor now all changed and no longer looking like the friendly old principal but an old man you did not want to get on the bad side of.

He looked at the pole once more and now noticed that it was not just any pole, but a staff and it too had intricate writings going around it like a snake coiling around a tree. They lit up a little, emitting yellow light as he went for an attack.

Looking at this and thinking about all the things Nolamine had been telling him and the fact that they seemed to have been safe underneath the bed, Son-join could not help but have a thought after remembering his words and the charm he had used.

'Old man, how do you polish the top of your head to be so shiny when you have hair around the sides?'

He thought as he looked at the moon's light bouncing off of the old man's head and thinking about the fact that it was the reason they were found out.
