Chapter 24 - Drowning

Siege looked up at the blanket of dull stars stretched out to infinity. The pale crescent moon shone like a silvery crow enclosed by the stars. The stars looked darker than usual. A pitch-black darkness covered the sky as if someone had switched of the moon and the stars.

The line between simulation and reality was become a blur for Siege Damon, and yet he still felt the urge to push forward, to complete the task that was set in front of him. He needed to be strong, stronger than the person he once was...

[User: Siege Damon is running out of stamina]

The boat swayed from side to side; the wind howled. Siege had no sense of direction or time aboard the boat, but he guessed it had passed midnight. His head hurt and he was in desperate need of rest. His eyes felt heavy and his legs were numb from the cold.

Just as Siege felt as if he lost all motivation, an island came into view. It felt surreal just looking at it. The outside was surrounded by sand and stone and the inside was surrounded by jungle and small forests.

As the boat got closer, a message from the simulation played inside his mind:

"Trial Two will commence soon. Good luck Candidate!"

Siege made the ship go at full speed, directing the sail with the direction of the wind. He had enough of the trials.

He heard a loud rip as he stood piloted the boat.

"Oh, no!" he cried. He looked up and saw that the sails had a large tear from top to bottom. The boat came to a stand still, rocking back and forth. He knew that the sails had too much tension.

"F*ck, f*ck, f*ck!" Siege whispered, assessing the sails. He had nothing to repair it with or even make a temporary make shift one. He was stranded.

(1 hour later)

Siege felt cold press against his legs, soaking in through his trousers. He was jolted awake from his nap. An hour had passed and he was yet to figure out how to get out of the boat. He saw that there was holes underneath the boat and water was coming through. The metal part had rust and the wooden flooring had started to rot.

Every second he spent inside the boat, the more he dreaded thinking about jumping into the ocean at the middle of the night.

"This can't get possibly worse!" he screamed at the top of his lungs. He went to the edge at looked at the brown, murky water. His gaze followed to Soul Island. He was so close.

"Just a little swim..." he said, laughing nervously right after. He looked down and saw that the water had come half way up his legs. He closed his eyes, took a deep breathe and jumped.

All the while, a figure was watching him from the shadows of Soul Island. They had a surprised expression on their face but no signs of recognition. The mysterious figure had been watching Siege for a while, but they didn't reveal themselves to him.

The figure noticed the madness and desperation in the boy's eyes and smiled. A curious grin appeared on their face.

"I wonder how he will get out..."

When they saw the boy jump, their neutral expression turned into a look of deep worry. They crossed their arms and watched as the scene played out...

Siege felt the water engulf him in a fury of cold. The water felt heavy. He was closely blind but he could make out the surface. Siege knew how to swim, but someone stopped him when he was about to propel himself out of the water.

He was losing air. The sight of the surface got farther and farther away. He looked down. The darkness he saw made him panic, as he was dragged down even more.

He struggled to get out of it's grip, losing more precious air. His chest was hurting badly and he could feel his heartbeat beat louder and louder. He desperately needed air. He kicked, and tried to get to the surface. No luck. Everything started to hurt and his chest felt like someone stabbed him.

Then, with his last strength, he kicked once more. His body didn't hurt anymore. He was not going to make it and he knew it. He was calm now.

Then everything went black.
