Chereads / The Blood Mage: Evolution [DROPPED] / Chapter 5 - Rabarn Town

Chapter 5 - Rabarn Town

There was something significant about Rabarn Town. Siege remembered hearing that it was the last time anyone had heard from his parents. Ever since their death, Siege didn't have the nerve to go back. The negative memories were too much for him.

He stared out of the taxi window, trying to remember what had caused him to go to the town. At first, it felt as if it was a calling.

"Where do you need to stop, boy?" asked the taxi driver, looking at him through the rear view mirror.

"Just stop at the town centre" replied Siege, his face showing no signs of emotions. Just then, something popped up on screen.

[Quest Unlocked!]

[Quest: Knock the man unconscious]

[Reward: 20 Experience Points]

"What, I can't do that!" Siege shouted. The driver stared at him strangely.

"Do what?" he asked, wondering if the boy went a bit crazy.

But Siege wasn't listening. He stared at the notification. He felt as if The System as alive, watching his every move. Although The System said 'A man' he knew it could only mean the driver.

Siege started to sweat. He tried to ignore the message. Using The System to one's advantage was a horrendous thing to do. But a part of him wanted to do it for the XP.

"I'll become that much stronger" Siege thought, his eyes showing signs of greed. He licked his licks. As they closed in on the town centre, Siege started to feel fidgety. He knew what he was about to do was wrong...

More sweat started to form on his forehead. Meanwhile, the driver was beginning to get worried. He knew the teenager couldn't harm him, yet he felt alarmed.

"Do you want me to stop here, kiddo?" the driver asked, slowing down the vehicle. The boy nodded, his face emotionless. The taxi stopped, and the driver turned off the engine, waiting for the boy to get out. His right eye became black for a split second...

Siege gazed out of the window, looking to make sure no one was watching. There was pin point silence. The driver watched the boy. What Siege didn't know was that the man had a gun with him at all times for circumstances this.

He only had to use it once to threaten a drunk man. He never thought he would even think of using it on a minor. Yet he knew the world was full of Magic Users. You could never be too careful. Whilst Siege was staring out of the window, the taxi drivers lands slowly shifted towards a drawer.

"Aren't you gonna get out kid?" he asked, breaking the silence. He wanted to try one more time before he threatened him with the gun. The truth was that gun didn't have any bullets. He was merely putting on a show.

Siege had figured his out ages ago. He had never used a gun. But Siege immediately knew the gun was unable to fire. Within a blink of an eye, Siege jumped out of his seat. He was sat directly behind the driver and so he quickly pinned the driver's neck to the seat.

The driver shouted, realizing that the boy had a firm grip. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't escape. Siege strangled the man until his voice was hoarse with screaming. Nobody was there to help the man...

As soon as the man stopped struggling, Siege let go. His breathing was loud from trauma and his hands were shaking. He opened the door and got out as if nothing bad had just occurred. His right eye was no longer black. He turned around to the taxi. The driver's window was open. He threw a few dollars into the car as a tip.

"Thank you for the ride..."

Siege walked into town, determined to find his parent's home. He had no relations other than Victoria. His grandparents had died before he was born. His dad didn't had any siblings and his aunt refused to take the boy into her care and ignored him as if he didn't exist...

"Life can't get worse than this" he muttered.
