"Wendy,"
Valerie called her out with a modulated voice. People along the streets were busy with their tasks. They weren't at the center of the town anymore, and Wendy turned around as she looked at her, eyes gleaming with tears.
She took a few steps closer towards Wendy and grabbed her forearm, "I'm sorry if I was a bit abrupt earlier. I didn't think of how you would process the situation and ended up hurting you."
Instead of being angry at her, Wendy shook her head and spoke in a low voice, "No, not at all. It wasn't your fault, Lady Valerie. My father is right..." She looked at the ground as she trailed off, "You don't deserve to be treated like that when all you wanted to do was help."
Valerie felt a strong surge of different emotions being sent into her system. It was a mixture of pity, sadness, and compassion towards this young girl, who seemed to have the world against her.
