'I think mr. Haris might employ me.' She was looking at his card and smiling.
'Good for you. Emily said to tell you hi. Now we can go to George's.' I knew I was going to regret going to see George's cousin but I had to do it anyway.
'I hope you don't get mad but I called Mauve and she agreed to drive us there.' She walked to a painting on the wall and kept staring at it.
'His house is not even far at all. It's like the next building. We can walk there. You did not need to call her.' Alicia was making Mauve a part of everything we did. It was getting very annoying.
'I know. I just think it'll be better if she was there with us. I get really comfortable when she's there.'
'I just think we don't need to include her in everything. She got you a job, she took us to Hannah's, now she is going with us to George's. Don't you think it's too much?'
'She is too involved in everything we do. If you feel sorry for what Nate did to her, I'm pretty sure you've done enough to atone for his sins. Making her family just like that is too much.'
I had no idea what I was saying but I knew I was tired of seeing Mauve everywhere.
'She's not a bad person.'
'I did not say she was.'
'I feel better when she's there, you should probably get used to it.'
Someone knocked on the door. Alicia opened it, it was Mauve.
'Are you guys ready?' Mauve smiled.
'Yeah, let's get this over with.' I said.
The time was past six in the evening and we were going to see a woman that was severely traumatized from an experience she had with my brother.
It sounded very insane but I could not do anything to stop Alicia.
George's house was about a minute away. I did not know if waiting in the car was better than going with them. I was going to be hated by George and there was nothing I could do about it.
I was going to at least try to save my face so going with Alicia and Mauve was the option I went with. It was really dark outside and I had a feeling George and his family were having dinner.
'Okay. Let's not say anything triggering. Let's be cool about this, She's one of us.' Mauve said holding Alicia.
Alicia knocked on their front door and after a while, Gerald came to the door.
'Hi. Is your cousin home?' Alicia bent down to talk to him.
'Yeah. You want to see her?' His voice was very tiny.
'Yeah, Could you get her for me?' Alicia touched his chin.
'Who are you?'
Alicia looked at Mauve and I. I knew what she was thinking. George definitely knew our names and if he was still angry, he was going to come to the door and throw us out.
Mauve touched his shoulder.
'Mauve. Mauve is asking for her.' Mauve said and smiled.
He left.
We stood at the door for a few minutes and a woman who looked like she was in her early thirties opened the door.
'Hi.' She looked at the three of us with this confused look on her face.
'Hi, I'm Mauve.' Mauve stretched out her hands and the woman shook it.
'Hi Mauve. Do I know you?' She raised a brow.
'I don't believe you do. This is Alicia and Kassandra.' She said pointing at us.
'Hm.' The woman said.
'I am very sorry we are showing up this late. We just could not wait till tomorrow to see you.' Alicia said.
'Who are you people?' She was growing impatient and so was I.
'We're victims of Nate, just like you. We heard about your silent sufferings and we're here to talk with you.' Mauve was pulling the victim card.
'Why would I want to talk about Nate with you guys?' She chuckled.
It sounded like she really wanted to talk about him but she did not want to come off as desperate.
'Please, just hear us out.' Alicia held her hand.
'Okay. You can come in.' She opened the door and walked in.
'No. I mean, we don't want to talk about it inside. We need privacy.'
I could not let George see me. It was bad enough that he had spoken to me the way he did, I did not want him throwing me out of his house.
'Yes, exactly, we need some privacy.' Alicia backed me up.
'How am I sure you guys are not here to kill me or something? Why do we need privacy to discuss that pig? If you can't come in, then I can't talk with you.' She attempted to close the door.
'Wait. George is my friend and he hates me now because of Nate, I can't go in there. I am sure he does not want to see my face ever.'
'We don't want to hurt you and we don't even need you to follow us anywhere, we could just talk here on the veranda.' I knew if we did not come clean, there was going to be no progress with her.
She was scared enough, I did not want to heighten it.
'You are his sister? The one George went to see this morning?' She looked shocked.
'Yes, and his victim too.' Alicia said.
She closed the door behind her and pointed to the seats on the veranda. There were five of them.
She was probably sad for me and I could not tell her I was not the victim and sister. Alicia was going to do anything to talk to this lady, even if it was lying to her for a little while.
'Look, ever since the incident with Nate, I've been to several therapists and psychologists. Nothing has made me better.'
'I hardly sleep, I watch my back every time and I have totally shut men out of my life. I can't even have a proper conversation with my dad anymore.' She was looking at the three of us intensely.
'How did he go about it with you?' Mauve asked.
'I got a job at a convenience store Desmond, his friend, always shopped in. Desmond was always coming to see me and he would tell me about this friend of his that thought I was cute.'
'After a while, I started thinking the friend he was always talking about was himself because I never saw Nate.'
