Chapter 28 - 28 When tanking turns out to be the better solution...!

Several things happened right at that moment:

First, the lightshow I enjoyed last night was nothing, and I repeat, nothing compared to the lightshow that almost fried my eyes in the next few seconds.

Second, notifications popped up and vanished so fast that I couldn't read them.

Third, my body tingled all over.

And if you think my third point is weird, no, it is perfectly legitimate! Because my character settings seem to change with the class changes at the same time.

Seldomly, there were a few racebound classes. Like you could only be an elven archer if you had elven blood in your veins. Or if you wanted to be a furry, I mean, beastman, you needed beastman heritage or go all out in the clothing, costume and accessories sales.

My former race was human, - or something like this. If I remembered correctly, I gambled on a random human x another species drawing to get some benefits but had only a bit of halfling blood inside of me. The bonus was being slightly smaller which increased my agility and larger feet which raised my stealth. At the same time I had to always enlarge my boots. So I changed my race to just human in a fit of anger after the blacksmith wanted to extort one gold from me to enlarge a pair of iron-studded boots. After this, I only grew five centimeters again and my feet were back to being size 39 instead of 55. And was back to being a normal human even in-game.

But now, I felt the little itch I felt back then, just increased over a hundredfold. It was so vexing, that I almost scratched my skin bloody in an attempt to stop the prickle on and under my skin.

After the itch ceased slowly, I looked at my body. Under my wondrous gaze, my skin turned slightly bluish with a tint of other colors. Finally, a notification popped up, when my skin was a mixture of purple and blue, and a slight dark green shimmer, in consideration of the viewpoint of which I was staring at it.

The notification read:

[You used [Trickery for beginners [class manual]].

Your race was not compatible with your class [Lesser Trickster].

Your race was forcefully changed from [human] to [???].

For more information about your new race [???] advance your class by finding advanced class manuals, by being guided by a mentor or finding skillbooks fitting your class.

All your attributes are reset to level 0. Your beginner's skill [Baiting] from the class [Tank] is removed.

You acquired the beginner's skill [Little trick].

You got 10 free attribute points to distribute for acquiring a [Rare class].

The quest [Are you ready to embark on an adventure to find the remaining 76 volumes?] was automatically accepted. Open your quest menu for further information.

Remark: Try harder next time. Maybe you'll find a legendary class. Just kidding!]

My eyebrow twitched. When did the normal status notification adopt remarks as well? Before, it only used a passive aggressive manner of speech to make its aversion clear. Was this a new upgrade to make the players feel more like home with a cursing culture like a 'good and concerned' mother?

I sighed and then fell backward due to the added weight on my backside. My arms flailed, then I fell on my butt. But my butt didn't hurt, instead I felt a piercing damage I never felt before. What exactly hurts? I couldn't remember ever feeling this feeling before. One of my hands reached for my butt. It seemed fine. But there was something under my butt. It was warm, long and silken to the touch. I sprang to my feet! What did I just sit on and touch? As I looked at the ground, nothing was there. Accompanied with the fast motion of standing up, my balance was screwed again and I almost fell over again. This time, I clung to the bedpost and looked down at my hands. All four of them. Four?! My scream reverberated through the building and I let go of the bedpost, falling to my butt once again. But it didn't hurt, instead there was the piercing pain once more. Horrified, I looked down at a large and tentacle-like tail I fell down upon. It was mine. I had a very large, blue tail and four arms. My thoughts were blank. What the fuck was going on with this class. Why did I get four armpits to deal with now? Weren't two already enough of heaven's punishment? And I had a tail that didn't look child-friendly enough to be shown uncensored. At least it didn't have sucking cups or a weird tip.

I sighed. Was a refund still possible? The price containing my dignity was indeed unbearable.

But it seemed unavoidable until I entered a city and found a class instructor of the class I wanted to acquire plus a [race change coupon] (which was priced at 1 gold). Or I needed to erase my whole account and destroy my inventory, too, to create a new character.

I walked to the washing bowl and the small mirror and almost got a heart attack, seeing my 'new' face in the mirror. It was like the demon lord trope with the striking nose, wide lips and sharp eyes was coming alive on my face. Like it was copied and plastered on my body sloppily. Fangs of a predator shocked me when I wanted to at least try to look amiable with the brooding face of a villain by smiling friendly. How the hell should I even play the game? Although many classes were available, racism between different races was common. In my human body, I worked very hard to look more than decent (I spent over half an hour on the character design of my original body and not 30 seconds like I did with my current avatar). With my human appearance and striking face as a player, I only sometimes had trouble with NPCs but could save myself due to my race and looks. But now? I saw the racism against species that had similarities towards demons or monsters because people feared both races. With my avatar looking like this, they would shun me and I would have a harder time haggling, buying or even entering towns. Two of my hands, which were now equipped with claw-like fingernails dug through the slightly wavy blackish blue hair falling over my shoulders and reached the lower side of my back. At least I had no horns and wings. I thought to myself, although wings might have looked cool and would be highly useful. And if someone already wondered why I didn't mention the color of my pupils...well. They were purple-yellow. Almost just purple, but a bright yellow ring was around my pupils making the whole eyes emit an eerie light effect. If my general appearance wouldn't make others shit their pants in fear, then this demonic gaze would. Even Coven's eyes looked more family friendly than mine! I cursed and noticed how my tail swished in the mirror behind me. Was there a tutorial on how one could control their tail? I didn't want to be killed because I swatted someone to death, just because my emotions were unstable.

Ah, and before I forgot it: There was another tail between my legs.
