...and then the cute rabbit died!!! I know, I know, I should not start in the middle of a narrative but it shocked me so much. Nonetheless, I begin, let's say, one hour ago.
I left a small bakery, my inventory packed to the brim with sweets and sugary treats. Instead of hunting and doing quests to elevate my levels or equipment, I prided myself in a little tradition of mine. Once every in-game week, (about once per day in real life) I bought sweets and spent a whole day out in the green of nature to picnic.
Today I chose a map that was a little bit further than my usual spot so I could observe animals and maybe even monsters. Even if I died while picnicking, I would drop nothing but cake and pastries. It would be aggravating but not as devastating if I would drop my treasures in my treasure chest in the town. This "home" of mine in town was only a room with 10 square meters in which a huge chest, a slim bed, a table, a chair, a small wardrobe and a fireplace with a kettle fit in. It was the cheapest living space I could afford because my hunts weren't fruitful enough to buy me more (if I still wanted to buy food).
Because, now's the catch: All food in-game was stimulated outside. So it would be like eating real food, smelling, tasting, even chewing only with the side effect that you would not eat something in reality. After I first had contact with a similar feature in another game, I was exhilarated, that this feature was ten times better here in Falan! It was a habit now.
Class setting decided if you needed food to survive. As an example: A skeleton was dead, so they couldn't chew food. But they had to take milk baths quite often or their bones would get brittle in case they fought naked, without armor.
There were a ton of classes who were menaces when it came to food. The most blatant examples were (and will) always be the beastmen or shapeshifter classes. Their appetite could compare to that of a whole football team.
Under the HP(health points), MP(magic power) and StP(stamina points) bar was the SaP(satiency points) bar. The stamina and satiency was linked. The higher the stamina, the less the satiency would decrease. So high movement-type classes had to suffer all the same under the excruciating, heavenly pain of always spending their hard earned money on food. But every class had its drawbacks. Tanks had to always stock on repair kits, HP and MP potions to keep their shields healthy and whole as well as their meaty bodies. Mages were often very packed with MP and SP potions so they could run and cast without stopping when the monsters found their tender flesh more appealing than the thick hide and armor of tankers or fighters.
So buying food was always a huge topic in Falan so every town had dozens of shops, often more than one market and many bakeries, restaurants and stalls for roasted goodies.
And as you might have guessed already, I didn't buy all those pastries to survive in combat and keep my satiency full, but to enjoy myself and taste the seductive sweetness of cake. And muffins. And macarons, and...a whole lot more stuff I couldn't possibly name in one chapter. But I packed lots of stuff in my inventory. I only wore beginners clothing to my picnic and had a weak wooden staff equipped so that I could use some of my spells to ward weaker monsters off. In this map should be creatures ranging from level 25 to 55. Since my level was 42, I could at least rest comfortably. Creatures in these woods could kill me, but as I only wanted to enjoy nature it wouldn't vex me if I died or not. I had a passive skill named [uninteresting]. Yes, it sounded unimpressive, but it's neat function was the following:
[uninteresting lvl 1 (passive)
Description: Monsters tend to find you too lacking to be their snack.
Effect: 13% probability passively increased, that they might not attack you.
Remarks: Why 13%? So that it will bring you the misfortune to be eaten by monsters weak enough to regard you as a quick meal!]
Since I acquired this skill through a skill book in my yet hardest raid ever, I fell in love with this baby! I could literally intrude into a location like this but the high level monsters wouldn't attack me because I would be as appealing as eating a small fly for lunch. And since they wanted more than a fly, I could eat my pastries unbothered.
But now back to the beginning. How did the rabbit die?
Let me tell you this: I sat there, eating, until my belly seemingly bulged under the food consumption and some notifications and a new status effect appeared.
[You overate on sweets.]
[Your movement speed is reduced by 5%.]
[You feel like you must vomit.]
[Status effect: unhealthy food consumption]
[Your attacks are 10% less effective and your MP regeneration is lowered by 15%. Please recover with a [laxative] potion or visit a healer to change your status effect. The effects of [unhealthy food consumption] will wear of in 3h 59m 32s]
After I read through the endless notifications, the bushes behind me began to rustle. Very violently, if you ask me.
And a small eternity later, one of the cutest rabbits ever came out of it. Huge black eyes, soft and fluffy looking green fur and a cute, slightly brighter green nose. Its tiny nose trembled while it scented the air to discern if an enemy was nearby. Then it hopped closer.
With its little butt shaking with every hop, the tiny and puffy tail wiggling a bit. Soooooo adorable~!!!
And then I saw the question marks in the status of the rabbit and swallowed my saliva.
