Chapter 4 - 4 I just got trash...

At least I thought I was until I really knew the rewards. Big, fat, loud uffff.

[Name: small bag with coins

Description: A small bag of lesser fabric containing 148 coins out of brass. The coins can be used as currency in human settlements. Some other races accept them as foreign currency, too.

Remark: They may sparkle brighter than gold but their worth is far less impressive than their bright.]

With those coins I couldn't even buy myself a decent meal. Still, a drop is a drop so I took the coins.

The other thing seemed not as useless but not particularly useful, either.

[Name: Trickery for beginners

Description: An old book that looks like the pages will brittle under your fingers. The author is long forgotten but if you research a bit you might find out that this is the first volume of a series.

Effect: By reading the book you will get random knowledge out of it. It may contain skills, hidden maps or other secrets of Falan.

Remark: Beware of bookworms. Some of them will eat you whole.]

Those kinds of listless descriptions were caused by the lack of an [appraisal] skill. The game offered a little automated appraisal, but one could see what this amounted to. In towns would always be magicians or other gamers who acquired [appraisal] willing to exchange a fee with an appraisal of stuff. But for me, this was often far too expensive. So if I sold stuff I could guess by comparison or by gut to decide the price. I only took the promising pieces to an appraiser. Since I stayed in Coven's bar, I mostly took his service in appraisal if I needed one.

This almost crumling book was a lesser mystery box. It was an expression used for a random treasure. There weren't often chests but the most crude pieces of things: Books, clothes, tableware, even food could turn out to give you a skill, insight, knowledge or other secret.

So people collected anything ranging from actual treasures to trash. Because seldomly this "trash" could turn into a valuable piece of equipment or grant a mighty skill.

I stuffed the bag and book from the window to my inventory and eyed the last item. A level 74 monster cannot drop useless stuff, right?

I carefully glanced at the small bottle with a very deadly looking, green liquid.

[Name: Bottle full of hair dye

Description: A rare cosmetic which can dye your hair permanently.

Effect: Green hair dye that lets your hair look like grass.

> Camouflage: You aren't spotted easily in pastures and woods. +15 Stealth Attribute (as long as the hair dye is worn)

> Softness: Your hair is shiny. And green. Either from pity others feel towards you or the fluffiness, your Charm Attribute is increased by 25 points.

Permanent: This hair dye is permanent. Only a good old shaving your head bald or a character reset can make this colour disappear.

Remark: Colours can hurt. Really! Just try this dye and watch yourself in the mirror. Your heart will bleed.]

It was useless. Plain, outright unusable shit. At least it gave decent addings to Charm and Stealth Attribute that could be always worn and didn't need an item slot like armor or weapons.

Maybe I could sell it for a good sum of coins. Or it will rot in my treasure chest, alongside a friggin lot of other "treasures" like this. Sob.

Why the fuck was my luck good enough to get three drops from a higher leveled monster and then only get all of this trash?!

Trying to calm my anger, I stuffed the bottle into the inventory, too. I even took the rabbit's body to either gift it to my landlord or sell it with the other items. Then I stood up, dusted my clothes and went in the direction of the teleportation stop to reach the town.

On my way I met two smaller creatures, a [large ant] as big as my elbow was long and a [noisy raven] who both attacked me. After I blasted them with my active skill [lesser fireball] into bits, I reached the teleportation stop.

With an ugly pout on my face I handed the NPC two bronze coins and vanished through the whirlwind of the teleportation gate.

Info about the skills I used:

[lesser fireball lvl 8 (active)

Description: One of the first elementar spells a mage can learn. Skill was bought with ten copper coins at the magic tower.

Damage: Deals 200 damage +8(skill lvl) x 42 (lvl).

Range: Can reach targets up to a distance of 40 m.

Effect: A small fireball the size of your fist will be created. Can be thrown.

Cost: 10 mana per fireball

Remarks: Even tea lights do greater damage than this flame. But you can perfectly roast marshmallows with it.]
