Chapter 33 - All-Seeing Eye

The girl started to descend from the sky slowly. The smile on her face was almost like a child getting what they wanted. Raising her hand, lazily in the air, she gently laid it down–the portals suddenly dissipated and disappeared without a single trace left behind.

Lapis softly landed on a decapitated pillar and crossed her arms as the crimson-haired girl and blue-haired boy turned toward her. Arcana, the crimson-haired girl, gave a bittersweet smile.

'I guess you were right, Sirius.'

'I seriously wish I wasn't.'

Sirius, the blue-haired boy, replied, aiming his bow at Lapis. She didn't look directly at him but scanned the area slightly. She breathed, "hm," and set her eyes on the main arena, down below. A young boy was fighting Joker, the so-called rookie of Divine Orthodox Church. He seemed to be holding his own too.

'That human and... a Demon? No, an Archdemon.'

She analyzed them accurately at that. Just by a mere glance, she was able to tell that Altair was a demon, nevertheless, an Archdemon. She sidestepped and a blue flaming arrow flew past her. It was like Lapis was expecting the attack to come.

'Focus on your opponents!'

Sirius shouted. Arcana skipped along and fired a barrage of attacks. They were all swiftly dodged with fluid movements. Lapis seemed to have dodged a second or two before the attacks arrived. Once Arcana noticed, she retreated backwards.

'What are you?'

Lapis smiled in earnest. From her forehead, her hair parted and a 10cm black horn slowly formed. She seemed more menacing now. Arcana and Sirius shook for a second. Arcana's daggers burst into flames.

'You. Who are you, what are you, and who do you work for?'

Arcana asked. Lapis replied.

'I'm Lapis. I'm what people would call a Black Oni. I work for the D.O.C.'

She threw her flame-coated dagger at Lapis; Lapis caught it and the flames extinguished. A punch to the face. Arcana managed to land a hit. The crimson-haired girl then used her other dagger to slash her, but she was countered. They were in a small stalemate. Sirius shot two arrows. The arrows circled around Arcana hitting Lapis on the back.

Lapis started stumbling, Arcana disarmed her and kneed her in the chest, followed up by a kick to the face. Lapis recovered quick–she caught Arcana's leg after receiving a blow. Arcana tried her best to escape. Her dagger soared through the air toward Lapis, while she leant back. Her strike missed. The Black Oni returned and headbutted Arcana.

'Shit!'

Sirius shouted. He sprinted toward the two of them. Arcana was thrown toward him. Instead of catching her, he jumped over her and tossed his bow away. A 15cm long blue horn grew on the right side of his forehead. Blue flames surrounded his arms as his hair flowed like flames.

'Mana Release: Vanguard!'

The smile on Lapis' face became a sneer once she saw Sirius' power.

'Yes! This is way better than watching at the top with the others! Huh?'

She questioned. Sirius retreated back and pulled his sister back along with him. She snapped out of her momentary unconscious state. Arcana struggled to stand. Luckily for her, she was able to stand steadily. Lapis shouted.

'Oi! Why weren't you going to attack me?! You probably would've gotten a decent hit in there if you wanted to strike me!'

Sirius chuckled slightly. Lapis' eye twitched as she scowled.

'What's so funny?'

'Sorry, it's just that I didn't have any intention of attacking you. I just made it look like it.'

'What was the point of that?'

Sirius' Vanguard form dissipated as he stood up. (His horn didn't disappear.) He felt successful enough to explain it to his enemy.

'Well, earlier, when I attacked you, I noticed you had dodged a bit too early. At first, I thought maybe you saw it coming and have fast reflexes or it was a fluke, but I confirmed it when my sister, Arcana, started attacking. I looked at your eyes and they didn't seem to be following her blade, but the actual person. Arcana herself. When I was out of view, I decided to shoot at you, and, to my surprise, you didn't dodge it.'

Arcana looked at Sirius dumbfounded.

'Meaning?'

'Meaning that she has some sort of ability which can see others' actions, or attacks, to be more precise. Since you're from the Divine Church, maybe it's a Seraph.'

Lapis flinched.

'If it is–'

Sirius smirked.

'–I'm guessing it's the All-Seeing Eye, right? The Eye of Providence. One would think that it has no advantage, with a name like that, but that's not true.'

'What's its weakness?'

The blue-haired boy put his index finger up and looked at Arcana.

'It can't see everything. It can only follow the actions of someone who is within her sight. That first attack I did, I must've been in the corner of her eye, meaning that she saw it coming from a mile away. Well, isn't that right, Miss Black Oni?'

The blue-haired girl started shaking and then clapped slowly. For some reason, it had an eerie rhythm to it.

'You found my ability and weakness. Well done, boy. But do you think that you have an advantage over me? Or perhaps you thought that it would discourage me? Sadly, I only feel more motivated.'

Sirius and Arcana both burst into flames. Sirius went back into his Vanguard form, while Arcana's red horn grew, on the left side of her forehead, her daggers and legs were engulfed in red flames. She called this form, "Skywalker."

'That's good.'

Arcana said while picking up her dagger from the ground. She was poised for battle. A blue bow materialized in Sirius' hands; he held it tightly and aimed it at Lapis.

'All that we want–'

Sirius fired, and he spoke. An arrow travelled toward Lapis. Of course, she dodged. She swirled around, dodging the arrow once more as it circled around, it hit her the third time. Lapis clasped her right shoulder. It looked like it had been hit by a blunt object. What was worse for her was the burning and stinging sensation.

(Fuck. He knew that I'd dodge the arrow the first time, and he was counting on me spinning so that he would shortly escape from my sight. That was his real goal. This motherfucker...)

'–is to stop you from destroying Riel.'

'I couldn't care less, about the destruction of this city, as long as I can fight you guys and kill you. You better get ready, because I'll be getting serious.'
