Five minutes later, the crimson-haired girl recovered from her apparent shock. Her brother treated her well, but, somehow, she didn't look too happy. What was that about, though? She said that I housed three souls.
I approached her, and she gave me a slight glare as she looked up at me.
'What did you mean by houses three souls?'
Her brother gave her a cup of water, and she drank it. The cup was made from wood, meaning that it must've been sculpted or made with some magic. She broke it by clasping her fist and it snapped and broke apart similar to a normal cup.
'Only one being can house one soul. It's impossible for a being to have three! No matter what race! How do you have three?!'
I didn't answer. I didn't know how myself. This is the first time I'm hearing about a soul in my body. But if we were talking about three souls, then... one would be my current self, another would be the soul of myself before I died. I know that it still exists because when I look at my status, it states my name and age with words in brackets.
Then what soul would be the third? Ummm... I only remember two lives, so I can't have three souls. Maybe it's a previous life that I don't remember. Let's just play it off as a joke.
'I still don't know what you're talking about.'
As I scratched my head nervously, she stood up and bent down–her face was close to mine. The look on her face was serious. I could sense slight hostility from Sakurako in the background, but I tried to ignore it.
'Seems like you really don't. Plus–'
The girl reeled away and pointed at Sakurako.
'–aren't you this boy's guardian, you shouldn't be teaching him things that are meant for...'
Then the girl suddenly stopped. Her face beat red and her finger started shaking. Sakurako walked forward and inspected the crimson-haired girl, who now looked like a monument. The boy was sitting down and watching this from around four feet away.
'Guardian? I'm not Alty's guardian, I'm his servant...'
Sakurako stated with a questioning look on her face. I don't understand why she's the one with the look of shock. The girl snapped out of her monument phase and grabbed the shoulders of Sakurako and shook them.
I should probably tell her that she should be the one who acts as the adult and I act as the child. "The child master" will be all that everyone will talk about if we continue to act leniently in public.
'Wait?! You're his servant?!'
Here we go. Start the film.
'Y-yeah...'
'Does he whip you?! Does he torture you if you fail?! Does he put your face in the water and drown you slowly until you have an inch of life!? Does he defile you?!'
This girl is... weird. I mean, those are natural things to ask if someone is a servant, but one would usually be asking because they worry about the other individual. But, the look on her face is telling me something different. It's almost like... she's saying things that she wants to happen to her! Her eyes are glowing, her cheeks are ready and she has a cheeky grin, which is letting drool out! This girl is a masochist.
'No, Alty wouldn't do that. He would shout at me before we would get started though.'
Get started on what?
'Ooh, foreplay, I like it.'
Now you're misunderstanding. I remember when I was young, I thought about S and M siblings who were the complete opposite of each other and they would please each other's sadist/masochistic needs.
Ah, so that thing from before. They weren't going to do anything serious, but the brother was just pleasing his sister's masochistic desires. That's dangerous. Even more so if they're siblings.
'Sorry about my sister.'
The blue-haired brother said.
'Your sister, is she, by any chance...'
The boy gave a slight grin and then spoke.
'Yep, she's a masochist.'
'What about you?'
'No, I don't find any pleasure in being attacked, though attacking is better for me.'
And he's a sadist! Excluding the villagers and Sakurako, the only other people I met had to be weird siblings. I feel like [Harbinger of Adversity] is doing this to me. I still don't know the effects of that Ultimate Skill too.
'So, before we carry on this conversation, why don't we exchange names?'
I propose trying to completely ignore the two personality traits of the siblings. Sakurako breaks free of the crimson-haired girl's shaking and hid behind me. She started snarling at her.
'Great idea.'
The sister said. She stood tall and put her open palm onto her chest–her chest was slightly above average–then she started to introduce herself.
'I'm Arcana and that over there is my beloved twin brother, Sirius.'
'Hold up, you're twins?'
I asked.
'Someone also asks whenever we introduce ourselves, but, yes, we are. We're what people call fraternal twins.'
If that's so, that makes sense. Whenever someone mentions "twins," they instantly think about if the twins look almost identical, but that's only the case for paternal twins, who are raised with one egg and sperm, then the zygote splits into two. While fraternal twins are born from two different sperm and egg, with two separate zygotes.
'Well, Arcana and Sirius, I'm Altair Nox, and this behind me is Sakurako.'
I introduced the two of us. Sakurako simply waved innocently from behind me. Sirius stood up and brushed anything that was on his butt.
'So, Altair, you have a surname? Are you a noble?'
'Noble? I'm not.'
«WARNING. Bloodlust sensed from the subjects, Arcana and Sirius.»
Bloodlust? Why? It seemed to have appeared the moment I mentioned my name. Last name... Perhaps they have some sort of beef with nobles, but I'm not one. From their point of view, I probably look like one though. A surname and a servant. That's all the proof they need, I guess.
Sakurako stepped out in front of me–she took off her cloak and set it on the ground. The two stood opposite Sakurako and equipped their weapons. Arcana had two daggers and Sirius wielded a bow.
They were fully intent on attacking me. An aura emerged from each of them in their colours–red and blue–the hair on the left side of Arcana's forehead disappeared and was replaced with a red horn, while for Sirius, a blue horn replaced the hair on the right side of his forehead.
Gah! What are they?! They're definitely not human.
(Identify.)
There was a scrambling noise; the sound reverberated in my ears. A red screen then appeared in front of me.
[Identify blocked.]
They blocked my Identify skill... These two combined are probably more dangerous than Carlos. Plus, I have no idea what moves they'll use in the battle. That's a bit disadvantage, especially since I can't fight properly. Relying on my skills are the only things I can do now.
'I'm not a noble, so then why're you attacking me?!'
A stupid question. A person's consciousness follows what they see and believe.
'That's a lie.'
Knew it would be like this. The only thing I can do is fight. Convincing them will get me nowhere. Well, firstly, Arcana will probably charge forward and Sirius will support from the back with his arrows. That's the most logical way I see it, but skills and magic override that logic.
'Our goal is to kill all corrupt nobles...'
'You see... I'm just an ordinary Demon.'
They ignored my remark and squared for battle and so did Sakurako. She hasn't said much this whole time–she just seems ready to fight. Anyways, let's start this fight and finish. With a victory!
