Chapter 28 - Extraction (Beginning)

Alec stood in an awkward running pose as he attempted to grab the little girl and hide her. His roommate and his girlfriend stared at Alec with confusion and looked at each other.

"Are you okay dude?" His girlfriend asked. Alec stood straight and nodded. "Ahem... I am fine. I just tripped", Alec managed to say. His roommate simply ignored him and headed to his bed with his girlfriend.

Meanwhile, the little girl was swinging her legs, sitting on his roommate's bed smiling mischievously. "This bed looks more comfortable than yours", the girl said, loud enough for everyone in the room to hear, but his roommate and his companion didn't seem to notice her.

Alec was utterly confused. How could these people not realize there was a girl in the room? Could it be that only players can see each other?

Alec wanted to respond, but couldn't. If his roommate saw him speak to nobody, they would assume he was crazy. The running pose incident had already laid the foundation.

"Alright, you can't say anything. Let's not make things more awkward than it already was. I will be going", the little girl jumped off the bed and headed to the door. Just before she left, she turned around and looked at Alec with seriousness written on her face.

"If I were you, I would play a mission immediately I leave here, and before you ask, let's just say at this specific time, there would be... benefits", the girl said and left the door.

Alec failed to understand what the girl meant, and he didn't plan to hop into a game. He jumped into his bed and closed his eyes, but his mind wasn't at rest. What the girl said before leaving was still echoing in his mind.

He couldn't stand it anymore, so he jumped off his bed and sat on his study desk. He took out the headset and looked at it for a moment. All this would be only ten minutes, I hope. He closed his eyes to calm his mind, before wearing the headset on his face, and waiting.

Just like last time, after it was worn, the headset immediately turned on. This time, Alec didn't resist the numbness as he allowed it to overtook his body, before he fell unconscious.

Title: Extraction.

Info: Lauren Moore was the ex-wife of an extremely rich business tycoon who died a year ago, his cause of death still unknown. He left behind lots of money and possessions, which he distributed to his family and children through his will.

However, he left nothing but a single key to his only child he bore with Lauren, which she made a necklace of and wore it to her only child, whose names are Nick Moore. What she didn't know was that the key she deemed useless and insignificant was the only key that could open something more valuable than money. The chest though was unknown.

Somehow some of Lauren's ex-husband's business partners knew of the chest and its content, so they began hunting down the carrier of the key, while the geologist that knew of the location was kidnapped and brutally tortured by them to spew out the whereabouts of the chest.

Mission: Ensure the safety of both the carrier of the key and the chest, by any means.

Time Limit: 360 days.

Alec's consciousness returned to him, and he found himself sitting inside of what looked like a cafe. He immediately began to understand his surroundings.

The cafe was filled with people, yet it was in such a way that it wasn't overcrowded. There was a cup with a smoking gas logo on the all-glass window at the far end, and the cream and sky-blue color theme the cafe was primarily themed with gave the cafe a very homely and comfortable feeling. There was a soft jazz playing, and the scent of brewed coffee further complimented the distinct chattering among the customers sitting on the chairs.

Although Alec felt comfortable, he didn't put his guard down. The information of the mission was very detailed, so he knew what to do immediately. He wanted to stand up but chose not to. He sat on his seat and waited. He took the time to idle to examine the appearance the game had generated for him.

Looking at the reflective glass on the attendance counter, he noticed that apart from his height, his skill appeared duller and rough, his nose slightly longer, and his eyes slightly larger. He even noticed a tint of dull green on them. He looked like a typical American man.

Alec examined his stat, and could not help but compliment himself. He didn't know of other players, but getting these achievements was no easy feat. Although he was never prepared for his first game, he still managed to not only win the game but also raked something good along the way.

The only useful item in his possession was the gun. Maybe the lucky necklace was alright, but it was a grade E item, which might not increase his luck that much. He only needs to keep it in his pocket to work anyways.

Just as he was thinking, a woman suddenly walked in. Alec was immediately alerted and stood straight on his seat. The woman seemed calm, but Alec noticed she was shivering slightly. She appeared nervous. She sat down on the nearest seat she could find and looked around like she was wary of something.

Alec instantly knew it was this woman the game was talking about. He decided to wait and see the event play out for him to analyze the mission fully.
