Chapter 29 - Laura

As soon as the woman sat down, the waiter approached her and asked her something Alec couldn't hear. The woman shook her head and made a gesture of water, which the waiter nodded and left her.

The woman sat nervously on her seat and prayed the waiter was quick enough. Just as she was about to feel enraged, the waiter arrived at her table and placed a glass cup and bottled water on the table, pouring some of its contents into the glass cup.

"Thanks", the woman said robotically and took a sip from the water, while looking around warily. Just as she was getting comfortable, someone entered the cafe and walked in slowly. The woman immediately noticed the person approaching the table just next to her and became wary again.

The man in his thirties wore a sleeveless shirt and dark shades, making him appear mysterious. He majestically sat down on the seat and used his fingers and signaled the waiter, who approached quickly.

"Hello, my name is Esther, and I will be taking care of you. Is there anything I can start you with?" The waiter asked as she held a small note and a pen. "Uhm... nothing at all. Do you have a bottle of wine?" The man asked in a husky voice. His voice carried this sense of authority. It caused anyone hearing him see themselves as inferior compared to him.

"Sure, I'll do it right away", the waiter smiled and walked away. "Wait, hold on", the man stopped the waiter from leaving. "Is there anything else?" The waiter asked, still wearing her smile.

"Give that woman anything she orders, it's all on me", the man asked and flashed a smile at the wary woman. The woman's heart suddenly palpated when the man stared at her. She flashed a weak, shaky smile as she said the 'thank you' word. But inside of her, she was panicking seriously.

Why would he choose to pay for her meals when there are, in fact, many people around him that are yet to even order anything? Bells were ringing in her mind.

"Alright ma'am, is there anything of choice you want?" The waiter asked as soon as she kept the bottle of wine on the man's table. "Uhm, nothing, thanks", she said politely, while looking at the man.

The man didn't look over, but he simply smiled and took a sip of wine from the wine glass and seemed to admire the soft jazz playing. The waiter left the table, leaving her alone again.

The man took out a pen and a paper and wrote something, which he passed onto the woman's table. The nervous woman was already feeling uneasy. She took the paper and read its contents.

"It's rude to reject my generous offer. Follow me, and no one here dies".

The note was short, but it carried a lot of weight on the words. The woman's suspicion was true. She felt like crying as she realized it. I thought I ran far away from these people.

With a heavy heart, she stood up and walked with shaky legs to the car she came with. She had barely left the cafe when she saw two Chinese men with casual wear sitting on the bonnet of her car, smoking.

By the time they saw her, they jumped down the car and approached her slowly. The woman retreated slowly and searched for something she could defend herself with. She noticed a pole lying on the ground, so she immediately picked it up and poked at the Chinese men, in a bid to stop them from approaching.

The two men looked at each other and laughed. They took their shotguns and displayed them to the woman, who suddenly felt her legs go limp. "Enter", one of the men said with a cold voice. The woman retreated slowly but bumped into someone. She turned around and realized there were another two men at her back.

She felt cornered, but there was nothing she could do in this situation. Just as she gave up and wanted to walk to the car, one of the Chinese men's heads exploded like a watermelon. Seeing the blood, the woman went berserk. She screamed and fainted on the floor.

Meanwhile, the kidnappers were in a frenzy. They took out their guns and pointed at the place they believed was the source of the bullet. "Come out and fight like a man!" One of the Chinese men screamed as he held his gun tightly.

There was silence. The three men were in a serious dilemma. They were afraid to move, and because they don't know when the next bullet would kill any of them, the pressure they felt was immense.

Just then, another bullet traveled through the air and hit the second Chinese man's throat, causing blood to gush out incessantly. As a result of the force the bullet carried along with it, the muscles and bones supporting the man's head were crippled, and the head fell off his body, leaving a stump. The man didn't even know how he died.

"Please, I beg you, stop the shooting. We are just insignificant thugs on the street. Please I beg you", the third man was begging desperately as he dropped the gun and raised his hands, a sign of surrender.

There was another silence. The man thought he had convinced the shooter, so he turned around and walk away. He had barely walked to the corner when the last man saw a bullet whiz past him and struck the back of the head of the last man, obliterating his skull.

The last man suddenly realized the killer doesn't accept surrender, so he desperately shot in the supposed direction and ran. The man would dodge from time to time to confuse the killer. Just when he thought he had gained a lot of distance between him and the shooter, everything suddenly became black.

Alec blew off the smoke coming out of the gun's muzzle and approached the fainted woman on the floor, along with four bodies scattered across. he lifted the woman and placed her in the woman's car. After putting her safely, he checked down to ensure they weren't bullet strapped on the car.

After inspecting the car and didn't see anything suspicious, he started the car and drove off the cafe's premises.
