Since Alec had not travelled by a helicopter-type aeroplane, he began feeling light-headed. His head began to pound, and he could feel his veins pulsating in his limbs. "This is normal, right?" Alec asked Laura.
"What?" The woman asked. "I'm not feeling well. Is this because of the low oxygen in the plane's altitude?" Alec suspected the reason for his light-headedness was the low oxygen concentration in the atmosphere, but he didn't understand why his head was pounding.
"Hold on, let me check", Laura said and examined Alec's head, but couldn't see anything out of the ordinary. To make the matters worse, the headache was getting worse.
Alec felt that something was amiss. Laura that was flying the plane was fine, but he was not. The headache reached a point that he couldn't bear it anymore. He removed the soundproof headsets and held his head in pain.
However, seconds after the headset was removed, the headache he was feeling finally disappeared. Alec was dumbfounded at this. 'What the hell?" Alec thought in surprise. He gently took the headset and examined it carefully.
The headset felt and appeared normal, except for some dent that appeared with time. Failing to see anything abnormal, he carefully tried to wear the headset again.
As soon as the headset snapped to his ear, the headache returned. He quickly removed it and dropped it. Something was wrong with this headset. He wanted to tell Laura, but he didn't say anything. Laura seemed to be talking with someone, and because of the noise, he couldn't hear what she was saying.
An hour later, the plane's dashboard began flashing red light, signaling Laura that the fuel was less than twenty percent. Laura sighed and turned the plane to the North-East. "Where are you going?" Alec asked, seeing that Laura changed direction.
"The fuel in its reserves is almost depleted, so I gotta fill it up. There is this guy my father usually goes to buy fuel from, and he is gonna help us", Laura said as the plane began to descend slowly.
After the plane made a touchdown, it ran across the grassy land until it stopped at what looked like a shack. "Do not come out of here", Laura said to Alec coldly before she climbed down and walked towards the shack.
Alec wanted to say something but again chose to keep quiet. He watched Laura knock on the shack's door and waited. Soon, an old man, slightly younger than Laura's father came out of the shack, and on seeing Laura, smiled cheekily.
Alec couldn't hear their conversation, but based on their body language, they seemed to be talking about her father. Then Laura's face fell as she was explaining something, which Alec could roughly guess she was talking about her run against the people trying to kidnap her.
Soon, Laura and the old man headed inside the shack, leaving Alec alone in the field. He tried to kill time by looking at some of the scattered cassettes in the plane's dashboard. Most of the cassettes seemed to be some west-country side songs which the owner of this plane, the old man, in this case, listens to.
Then Alec took out his gun and counted the bullets. "Six bullets. Where am I going to get new bullets here in this game instance?" Alec wondered. It didn't seem that anyone around here would possess a desert eagle gun, so ultimately could not lend Alec bullets.
As of now, he didn't know where he was going, thanks to not having his phone. Until he arrived at the destination, Alec would have to use these bullets sparingly.
While Alec was thinking, he heard a soft thud inside the shack. Normally this sound wasn't strange from one's point of view, but he hasn't heard Laura's voice for a long time. Something didn't seem right.
Alec opened the plane's door and stepped down softly. He tiptoed across the grassy field until he was next to the shack. He peeped through a small window at the back of the shack. There was nothing there. The room was filled with farming tools and a tractor.
This was not the room Laura had entered, so he circled the shack and saw another window. This time, he could hear the old man talking.
But he was not talking to Laura.
Alec strained his ear intently to listen to what the old man was saying. "Look, I'm only doing this because I had no choice, so stop commending me like that. Just bring the money and let's get this over with", the old man said tiredly.
So this man was compromised by these people. How powerful was this set of people? Alec stood up slightly to see the room. There it was, the old man holding a bucket of water and dousing it on a tied-up Laura.
As soon as the water touched Laura, she woke up and groaned. Seeing her state, she was overtaken with fright as she tried to free herself. "Stop wasting your time Laura", the old man said with a solemn voice.
Laura stared at him with anger and cursed him, but she couldn't form a word. Her mouth was taped shut. "Listen, Laura, don't hate me for doing this. These people came to my shack and threatened me to keep you in custody as soon as you arrive here, and thanks for making it easy for me, my life is guaranteed.
"I have no idea of what you did to these people, but I advise you to cooperate with them and don't do anything stupid. I hope we meet again, but in different circumstances", the old man concluded and left the shack. Laura could not stop twisting and turning in a bid to save herself, but it was to no avail.
Laura could not help for feel regret for keeping her guard down. Ever since she arrived at her father's place, she'd always assume she was in a safe place, somewhere not even those desperate fools could find them.
But she underestimated these people.
Although she knew she was going to end up this way, she didn't believe it would be this soon. She didn't even have the time to say 'I love you to her son. Laura looked around the room for anything she could use to free herself, but there was nothing.
She twisted again, but the rope that bound her was firmly tied, which surprised her believing that the old man was weaker than he was. With a sigh, she submitted herself to fate.
