Chapter 1 - Chapter 1. Meeting Her

Megan Heard struggled to contain her tears as the board introduced her as a partner of the most prestigious law firm in New York, McKenzie Sans & Co. Megan had earned that position, it's true. Since her first paralegal internship at McKenzie, she has had this role in mind. She committed her entire being to her profession and gave up everything having to do with her social life.

Being a partner at McKenzie Sans & Co. comes with a lot of duties, but she was a diligent worker so she felt she would survive. At age 27, she was the youngest and the first female to hold the position. She would receive a significant pay raise, double her benefits, and most importantly, her name would be inscribed on the door of her new office. In addition to the obligations that came with her promotion, she was now effectively one of the firm's owners. What a fulfillment of Megan's desire!

She addressed the firm's president, who was in his early fifties, saying, "Thank you so much, Mr. Dan. I pledge not to fail you".

"You worked for it, Megan, so you deserve the position. You hardly lose a case in court and no doubt your wins have contributed to the reputation of this law firm. I wish you the best in this phase of your career and I hope you don't let us down because we all look to you now," Mr. Dan said (he was tall, average weight, and had dark hair).

She assured him, "I will work harder than I have ever worked in this law company. You need not worry about anything."

Senior associates and other partners congratulated Megan in the conference room. They raised a toast while having brief discussions in between. As soon as Megan managed to leave the meeting space, she walked to her office (also known as her old office because she would be moving into a new one on Monday), reached for her iPhone in her bag, and called her best friend Tammy.

"Tammy, guess what?" As soon as Tammy answered her call, Megan exclaimed with excitement.

"You just got laid?" Tammy made a teasing comment, and Megan rolled her eyes.

"What a downer of mood! Anyway, I got a promotion."

"Being a Partner?" Tammy enquired.

"Yes, sweetie. Megan Heard is now a Partner in McKenzie Sans & Co."

"Congratulations my dear. You put in such a lot of effort, you are genuinely well-deserved. You ought to celebrate by going out. It's too bad I have to work tonight. I need to finish a couple of my gown designs. Tomorrow is the fashion show."

"Don't worry, we can still hang out after your fashion show tomorrow. William and I will likely spend the evening hanging around."

"Please do, and make sure you get laid tonight. Now that you're a partner, no one knows when you'll next be available to hang out with us."

"You have a wicked mind, Tammy," Megan giggled.

"Anyway, I'll see you at my house tomorrow night," Tammy said before hanging up the phone."

"Alright babe, congratulations once again."

Megan made the decision to phone William, her boyfriend, to let him know about her promotion and that she would be arriving at his house shortly, but even after phoning him twice, he didn't answer. The following 30 minutes were spent clearing out her drawers and other items she will need on Monday in her new office. She then exited the building and walked to her car while grabbing her handbag and laptop bag.

She made a call to a restaurant and ordered enough food and dessert for herself and William to celebrate before starting the engine. Megan called her parents as soon as she arrived at her flat to share the good news before taking a shower and getting ready to travel to her boyfriend's house. Because of her area of work, Megan was accustomed to dressing professionally, but tonight she wanted to go a bit far by dressing up very sensually. She selected the ideal clothing and added a pair of heels to it. She then reached for her purse, which contained only her phone, key fob, credit card, and some cash.

She went to the kitchen to get William's favorite bottle of red wine. After stopping by the restaurant to collect her orders. Megan moved on to William's flat after placing her order. It had been a while since she had seen him, and all of a sudden she began to feel bad for not spending as much time with him as she ought to. She sighed, rang the doorbell, and awaited William to answer. As soon as Megan and William were face to face, Megan grinned, but as she noticed William's stern expression, her smile gradually disappeared.

He didn't seem excited to meet her. Instead, he appeared preoccupied and asked her to explain why she was there.

"What brought you here? Do you not need to complete some work?" He made fun.

She began to add, "Look, I'm so sorry," but he cut her off.

"What brought you here?" He commanded.

"I felt we should celebrate because I was recently elevated to being a Partner at the firm, pointing to the food bag in her hand."

"I knew you would be a partner one day because your job is the most important thing in your life, congrats!" he said.

"Why do you say that?" Megan sounded distressed.

"Do you know how many dinner dates I've scheduled that I've had to reschedule because you had a work-related conflict? Or, when you did arrive, all you did was talk about your work, the cases you handled, and other nonsense. You never once mentioned us." "For goodness' sake, Megan, you're my girlfriend and it's not even like you are," William said. "Perhaps we're not meant to be together, so I think it's time we parted ways.

Megan, fighting back her tears, pleaded, "I swear, I'll change."

"You didn't even have time for me; you weren't even a partner. What do you anticipate happening now that you are a partner? Even though I run a family business and a chain of hotels and we are both workaholics, I still make time for us to spend together." To you, your job comes first, you come second, your best friend comes third and I have no place in your life."

Megan opened her mouth to say something but couldn't think of any logical excuse because everything he said was true.

"I want to start a family Megan and clearly, you are not ready for that, you're not ready to settle down and I'm ready. You and I can't go on like this we never worked. Let us go our separate ways, and I wish you all the best in this new part of your career".

Megan was ready to beg him, but she stopped when a lady came to join William at the door entrance.

"You're breaking up with me because of her?" Megan saw the lady's appearance and enquired to William.

She was a bit taller and possibly more beautiful than Megan. Megan bitterly swallowed in humiliation. William encircled the girl's waist with his arms.

"She is not involved in our relationship in any way. Since you're always so busy, I never had the chance to visit you and have a proper chat, even though I've wanted to end it for a while."

"Because I respect you so much, I will never consider betraying your trust. Celine and I just met a half month ago, and we're getting to know each other. She's eager to establish a family with me, and we have a lot in common. I wish you the best of luck in your work, Megan."

She left the food and wine she had brought with her and went back to her car. Megan cried hysterically as soon as her head touched the headrest of her car. She was attracted to William because he was wealthy, successful, kind, and modest, but now that she no longer had time for him, she lost him. She had no idea that pursuing her ambition would destroy her relationship with William. Her best friend Tammy had often urged her to make time for William, but she disregarded her advice, and as a result, she lost him.

In all honesty, he has supported her more than she has done for him. She called off 90% of their dates due to obligations at work. Since they became a couple approximately a year and 3 months ago, they had barely ever spoken about themselves. Even a month could pass before they speak to one another. That was the level of their relationship.

After having a good weep in her car, Megan turned on the engine and headed straight for the newest and most expensive bar in town. It is designed especially for high-class individuals. Regardless of the matter of whether she had a dried tear mark on her face, she entered the bar with poise, her head held high, and with a clutch in her hands. She settled down on a stool and informed the server to mix all of their strong drinks. She had enough cash in her purse to cover every expense. Alcohol has never been Megan's cup of tea. She could count the few occasions when she had visited a club and drank heavily. She always came up with the perfect justification not to go, no matter how much her closest friend Tammy threatened to drag her along to one.

She came to celebrate her promotion and breakup, and have fun alone. When she took her first shot, she had the most terrible expression, but by the time she took her third, she had grown accustomed to the taste.

Meanwhile….

Timothy White entered the Club (The most well-known and expensive club in New York) after a very long day at the office, which included numerous meetings and contract reviews with his attorney.

He is a well-known VIP client who is known to all of the staff at the club. He showed up to have some drinks and look for a girl to fuck. Timothy is cruel, ruthless, and cold. He has the utmost disrespect for everyone, especially women. He rejects both the concepts of love and what is commonly referred to as passion or emotion.

Just for now, suppose he leads a life of business rather than love.

Timothy White only values and cares about his parents, twin sisters, closest friend David, and other members of his immediate family.

Girls were always honored to share Timothy's bed with him, even if it was only for the evening, despite his obnoxious behavior because he was incredibly handsome and wealthy in addition to being exceedingly rich. As usual, he was able to walk right into his spot. When he finally relaxed, a waitress came over to tend to him and bring him his customary. Timothy usually goes to the club with David to have fun, but tonight, his so-called best friend left him for a date, so Timothy had no intention of staying long. After a few drinks, he would hunt for a girl to take to the hotel so they could have some fun.

Timothy's eyes met a woman as he downed his beverage. She was seated on a stool at the bar. Even though she was facing him with her back, he could already feel his heart beating faster just by glancing at her back. She never turned around after he waited for a while in the hopes that he would signal for her to come over, so he dispatched a waiter to let her know he was interested in seeing her. Timothy was shocked to see this male server return alone. Usually, a girl would accompany the waiter after being told to bring attention to her.

The server said, "Sir, she declined to come with me," and Timothy was irate.

The worst aspect of Timothy White was when he became irate. He is easily enraged, especially when someone disobeys his commands. And when he's enraged, he can say or do anything.

Timothy frowned at the waiter, "Didn't you tell her my name?"

The waiter added in a whisper, "I did, sir. I even told her to look at you so she would realize that I'm not lying and that Timothy White truly wants to meet her."

Timothy inquired, his voice rising and his eyes showing his rage. "What did she say?"

He muttered, "She said I should tell you to go to hell."

Timothy bit his lip and grabbed his glass of alcohol, and moved toward the woman who was playing hard to get. She didn't realize that any other club girl would go to any lengths to be in her current situation. By bringing her to the best and most expensive hotel in town, giving her a good time, and possibly some cash depending on how well she satisfied him, he was attempting to save her life. Timothy had never tried to talk to a woman at this club. After he asked for their presence, they would always approach him.
