A couple of months later.....
The previous few days have seen Megan at its busiest ever. Now that she had been promoted, there was a ton of work to be done. She had a lot of court cases, consultations, and contracts to check into. She was relieved that she had so much to do since it distracted her from thinking about Timothy, to whom she had given her most precious thing. She normally went straight to bed after arriving home each evening because she was usually too worn out to worry about him. But occasionally, she couldn't help but think of him, and every time she did, she felt guilty for sharing a bed with him.
The romantic night they shared with each other was replayed in his mind every now and then. She couldn't help herself, even though she didn't mean to. Even though she would not admit it, she occasionally could still feel him in her. She does not want to admit that she missed the warmth of his body pressing against hers and the way he embraced her passionately.
Megan was taken aback by the fact that she had never felt that way toward William. Not even half of what she had in one night with Timothy. The idea of Timothy and what they shared was driving her insane, so she was thinking of seeking therapy. Megan took a drink of coffee while midway through perusing a contract.
She tightened her face. She said to Molly, her intern, who was reviewing some files in her office as instructed by Megan, "This tastes horrible."
"But I prepared it exactly like how you like your coffee," Molly answered.
Megan took another sip after bringing the mug back to her lips. Compared to the initial sip, it was bitterer. She put the mug of coffee down and fetched herself a glass of water before returning to the contract that she was looking through, saying "I don't like the taste."
Megan caught Molly's weird gaze as she questioned her well-being. Yesterday, she made the same statement about her favorite pasta. Moving in front of Megan's desk, Molly approached her.
She inquired, "Megan, are you all right?" Megan's cousin Molly was working as an intern at McKenzie Sans & Co. She greatly admired Megan because she was an excellent attorney.
When she heard from her cousin's company that she had been accepted as an intern, she was thrilled. Every law student's and recent graduate's dream internship is at McKenzie Sands & Co., a well-regarded legal firm. Megan could have utilized her status as a partner to automatically grant Molly a spot, but she chose not to give Molly the advantage. She advised Molly to make sure she had high grades and submit an application like everyone else. If she was qualified, she would be chosen.
Favoritism wasn't tolerated by Megan. Molly successfully completed all of the things in order to be accepted. She was delighted to receive instruction from the top firm and her cousin, who was a leading attorney in the country.
Megan was perplexed and said, "What do you entail?"
"I ate the pasta you refused to eat and it tasted completely great, same with this coffee. You said the same thing about your pasta yesterday and two days ago, you fled away from the cafeteria because you couldn't take the smell of meat."
"So you're saying something is wrong with me?" Megan asked.
"I don't know", Molly shrugged. "Just worried, that's all."
Molly started to say something else, but Megan stared at her, making her swallow her words. Megan shook her head in dismay and shifted the subject, saying, "Hurry up with what I asked you to do. We should be in court in an hour and a half."
She resumed doing what Megan had instructed her to do. Soon after, Megan received a call. When she saw Tammy, her best friend, on the caller ID, she grinned.
"Hello," Tammy said from the other side. "Are you sure you don't want to attend with me to the party? I'll really cherish it if you do."
Megan groaned. "There's no way I'm accompanying you to that party, Tammy. I thought we had discussed this," she said.
"Trust me. Timothy would not do anything to you. You will be at my side, and I'll defend you throughout the party." Tammy said.
Megan laughed, "I'm not frightened of that jerk. It's your uncle's birthday party, you will be okay. Just go and catch up with your family members. I just don't want to see him again before I lose my anger and strangle him."
"Well, he deserves it, you're a lawyer. One of the greatest in fact, and no doubt you will get away with it."
"I'm sure it won't be as horrible as the way you've imagined it in your head," she reassured. "Aside from the fact that I'm avoiding that guy, I can't come with you since I have some tasks to accomplish since I won't be working this weekend. I'm heading to my parent's house. And also, the party is only for family members."
"You're my best friend, you're my family," Tammy answered.
"You'll do just fine babe, I must go, I have a court appearance this afternoon. We'll chat more afterward."
"Okay. Just let me know if you change your mind," Tammy replied before hanging up the phone.
Tammy sighed as soon as she drove into her Uncle Charles White's estate. Charles White was Timothy's father and the richest of her mother's three siblings. Because Tammy was the only female child, her brothers were extremely protective of her, especially Charles. Charles was the best uncle Tammy could ever want for.
He was charming, courteous, and modest, not at all like his son Timothy. Tammy was unable to refuse the invitation due to the positive relationship her mother and uncle had. After finding a location to park her car, she picked up her purse and wrapped gift before exiting the vehicle.
A familiar voice added, "I was already starting to worry my baby sister wouldn't show here."
"You know I can't say NO whenever it comes to Uncle Charles because Mom will be very upset at me," Tammy responded.
She arrived at the gathering late. She kind of hoped Megan would change her mind and accompany her, but Megan had to visit her family.
Jacob closed the distance between them and embraced his younger sister. He kissed her cheek and said, "You look lovely as ever," he said.
"Thank you."
Jacob questioned her as they entered the mansion holding hands, "So how's Megan?"
"She's alright. She had to go over to her family's place, that's why she could not come with me."
The two living rooms were crowded with visitors who were either family or close friends of the Whites. Tammy said hello to everyone she recognized. She moved her gift across to the area where other gifts for the celebrant were being displayed. She gave Uncle Charles a gift and a card so he would know they were from her.
When Timothy's mother, Victoria White, saw Tammy, she gave her a big hug and then excused herself to go greet the other guests and see how the kitchen staff were doing in the kitchen. Victoria was meticulous in every way.
She wasn't just beautiful and compassionate. She also appeared much younger than she actually was. Tammy couldn't have asked for a nicer wife for her Uncle Charles. They were genuinely meant to be together.
Tammy was left on her own after Jacob abandoned her, as he always did, to go talk to other girls. A passing waiter offered her a glass of red wine, and she accepted it. She was going to sit down on one of the sofas when her uncle, who was sitting next to Timothy, caught her eye. She walked over as Charles motioned for her to do so.
