Chereads / Pegasus: Journey through the sky / Chapter 2 - Chapter 1

Chapter 2 - Chapter 1

This might be the first time I'm flying, but up here in the sky - it almost felt like I've been flying my whole life.

To be perfectly honest, I have no idea where should I go. It's been an hour since I took to the sky, but with no destination, even flying can be dangerous.

I decided to ask some friendly locals, maybe find a place where I can rest and continued my journey to find where I belong.

That sounds like a good idea, let's go with that.

As I flew across the sea which look like it stretches endlessly, I noticed what appeared to be a flock of big birds on a small rocky isle. I thought I was seeing things, because being near the sea for too long can give someone seasick.

But as I draw near, I realise I wasn't seeing things at all.

I landed on the rocky isle, and to my surprise, I was greeted by three bird-like creatures. They all look like humans but the difference is that they have bird legs And wings, and they're body is mostly covered with feathers. Strangely enough, each of them carried musical instruments.

But still, they are all really beautiful.

One of them stepped up to me, "Who are you? Or... What are you?"

"Nobody or anything has the guts to land on our isle, well; except maybe the gods." The second continued.

I didn't know how to respond, this might be the first time I ever talked to anyone. The warrior that killed my mother didn't count, I never managed to talk to him - once.

Now that they mention it, who AM I?

I don't even know, I'm a horse that's for sure but I have wings on both of my backs. I don't even have a name that others can call me, my brother sure is lucky to already have a name.

"Ahem! Hello, Mr Horse are you okay?"

I immediately snapped out of my trance when the third yelled at me, I guess I better give them a response.

"I'm a... Winged... Horse, I think?" I said, though sounding confused. I can already see them looking at me like they're probably wondering what kind of response was that.

"Hm... A winged horse you say?" The first said. "Well you do look like a horse except you have wings, I guess you are telling the truth. I mean, you literally came from the sky." She pointed out.

All I can do just laugh nervously, I'm glad they believe me.

"Oh yeah," I realise. "I don't think you have introduced yourselves, what are the three of you?"

"What are we? Glad you ask, we three sisters are called the Sirens. The most feared creatures in the ocean, with our beautiful voice. We can make any ship sunk faster than a storm." The first said proudly, puffing her chest.

"Sorry, my eldest sister likes to exaggerate stories. I wouldn't call ourselves the most feared in the ocean, I think Scylla and Charybdis took first place in that." The second said, and the first slapped her back really hard. "Ouch!"

Sirens huh... They sound like really feared creatures, sinking ships is what they do... Wonder why?

"I can already tell from your expression. You're wondering why we sunk ships, it's because we're cursed to by the goddess Demeter." The third sighed.

"Cursed?" I questioned.

"We used to be handmaidens to Persephone, Demeter's beloved daughter." The second explained. "But when Persephone was kidnapped and we failed to find her well... The goddess turns us into... this." She pointed at herself.

"Even after she found Persephone, lady Demeter didn't even bother turning us back. I think we've been forgotten." The first said.

That's awful, I didn't know they used to be normal people before they become like this. The gods huh... It reminds me of Perseus, I'm sure he was a chosen of the gods. But why would the gods want Perseus to kill my mother? That's probably the only thing that didn't make sense to me.

I look at them and bowed my head. "I'm sorry to hear that."

"It's okay, we're already used to it. Anyway, you haven't really told us why you come here?"

In an instant, I finally remember the whole reason why I was seeking someone who can give me some directions.

"Oh right! I'm actually here to ask where am I? Do you ladies know?" I asked.

"You're on the Ionian sea. Just between Italy and Greece." The second said.

"The Ionian sea? Well that's a pretty helpful guide, maybe I should go to Greece. Do you ladies know where it is?"

"Sure, if you keep heading east from here. You'll get there in time." The third pointed to the east.

"Thanks, that's all I need to know. Thank you so much ladies for helping me." I said as I prepared to fly.

"Anytime, now if you'll excuse us. We have a ship we need to sink." The first yelled as I already take off to the sky, that was... Weird. I decided not to make a remark about that and continued my journey to find a place to rest.

It's pretty obvious why I'm going to Greece, it is the birthplace of my blood. And maybe I'll find where I belong there, just like what my brother wants.

But, when I do find it. What would I do there?

Have adventures? Explore new places I never saw? Helping others that needs help and be a hero?

They all sound great but... Somehow I feel like all of them are not the right ones for me.

Maybe I'll get some ideas when I get there.

~~~
I flew for 10 hours and I was already tired from flying too long, I haven't eaten anything and I had been drinking nothing but ocean waters. And it was pretty salty that I sometimes cough, but I have to keep going to find Greece.
I wouldn't say the trip was boring, at least these seagulls are here to accompany me even though they're just looking for a place to roost and eat.
I was starting to wonder maybe I'm lost, until - the sight of a huge island caught my attention.
I was ecstatic, because I know that huge land must be "Greece!"
This is so exciting, after a long voyage through the sky I finally made it to the land where my real adventure will begin.
But where should I go? I'm not really familiar with Greece because I've been living in that cave for so long, and there are a lot of humans there too.
Oh...
After that realization, my excitement instantly crash. I didn't want to be seen by humans, still traumatized by that accident concerning my mother. What if they try to kidnap me? Or worse, kill me and hung my dead body as a trophy?
The very thought scared me, maybe I should lay low and ask other creatures such as myself for directions. That seems like the best thing to do at this point.
As I got closer to the huge island, I decided to fly a little higher until my entire body got covered with clouds. Yup, I decided to camouflage so no humans can see me.
Despite the clouds covering my vision of the island, I was able to perfectly see it thanks to my great vision. I know horses have terrible sight, but how come I can see clearly? Maybe there's something special about me?
Anyway, I think I should land in a forest. Yeah, a forest - that's perfect. No humans ever go there, I'll be perfectly safe there and I could find other magical creatures who can help me.
With that, I began my search for a forest.
As I look below, I was amazed to see that the island is dominated by huge cities and small towns. And of course, lots and lots of humans. I wonder if this is where mom used to live before... Well, you know what I mean.
It all look so peaceful, and from up here; humans don't look as scary as I thought they will be. Will there ever be a time I could encounter a human? Though that day is probably not soon, but I would love to meet one someday. A nice human I mean.
After a few minutes, I was happy to say I finally found a forest. It was a little close to a big city but I'll take it, I'm already tired and I could use a place to sleep. And woah, imagined all the grass that I can eat. I think I just drooled while thinking about that.
It's official, this forest it is.
I fly lower and lower until I was no longer covered by the clouds, and then I landed slowly on the forest floor. This is so awesome, it's been so long since I feel and hear the tranquility of nature.
Maybe it's high time I look for a place to sleep then find some help.
