Chereads / Pegasus: Journey through the sky / Chapter 4 - Chapter 3

Chapter 4 - Chapter 3

This may be the most awkward moment I ever had since the day I was born, the way Deacon kept looking at me with such pleading eyes that can almost make anyone feel guilty. Is this what they call getting stuck in a situation?

I need to think this through, first he's still a child - probably around 12 years old; he's nowhere near the age of running away from home. And two I don't want to encourage this kind of behaviour but... I don't want to upset him even more.

I can hear the guy sighing as he gets up. "It's okay Mr Horse, you don't have to if you don't want to. I'll just find some other place to seek solace and wait for the right time to go home."

Deacon prepares to leave and I seriously don't know what to do, maybe he really doesn't want to go home - yet.

Wait...

He just wants to get away from his family for a couple of days so he can clear his head up, then; when he feels like he's ready he'll go home.

I feel an idea coming and I think it will benefit the both of us, I'm actually thinking of exploring around Greece for a while tomorrow and I also need a companion so I won't feel lonely. Honestly those seagulls are terrible companions, all they do is squawk all the time that gives you headaches.

I guess I can give it try.

I stand up and catch up to Deacon by bitting on his toga. "Huh? What?" he look behind and met my gaze.

I let go of his clothes and swing my neck back and forth, pointing on my back. Trying to tell him, come on! Let's go then!

In an instant, Deacon's eyes light up and that just made the guilt inside of me all gone (Well... Mostly) but I think it's worth it.

"You'll help me? SWEET! Thanks Mr Horse." He said, almost screaming with excitement. "Okay, so first thing tomorrow morning we'll depart. For now, let's rest first."

I couldn't agree more, with that the two of us put out the fireplace first and then we lay down on the ground and doze off to dreams world. And it also made me feel more secure that we sleep while cuddling with each other, man; he was so warm.

As we slept, I started having a weird dream.

I open my eyes and to my horror, flames spread everywhere like wildfires; consuming everything in its path. More like an entire city to be precise. I watch from afar, everything burning to the ground and the sound of people wailing and screaming in despair.

Help!

Save us!

Anyone!

It was awful... Who and what could be doing this? It felt so real... How can a dream feel like this? Unless it's trying to tell me something - which I'm not following or having any luck guessing.

I wanted to help them - I really do but, my entire body just won't move. Not because I'm scared, it's like my whole body just froze. It won't obey me.

And then, up above me; a great silhouette fly right in front of me.

I couldn't really see what or who it was, but the flying silhouette just give me a major bad vibe. But I can see that this mysterious thing has wings like me but it's entire body is not that of a horse, but something else...

Before I can act, the strange silhouette tried to attack me almost immediately.

Ahhhh!!!!!

"Gasp... Gasp..." And with a loud pant, I woke up.

It didn't take too long for Deacon to woke up too. "Um... Yawn... Good morning Mr Horse- uh... Is everything okay? You don't look so good."

I tried for a smile, but it was hard after that awful dream/nightmare I just had. But I didn't want to make Deacon worried so I did the most convincing smile I can. It looks like he buys it.

"Well, it's good to see you're okay. Anyway, it's finally time. Ready to go now?" He asks enthusiastically.

I nodded my head in response as both of us got up.

"Great, you do your thing before we go while I pack my stuff. See you here again in 30 seconds." Deacon waved me goodbye as he head for his belongings.

I really can't believe we're doing this, I thought to myself as I head for a nearby spring; luckily there's one nearby so I decided to freshen up there.

I'm actually helping a child run away from home, what was I thinking? But, it's just temporary. Until he can finally have the courage to go back and apologize to his family. I sure hope i'm not committing a theft here because that would be really bad.

Still, that dream I just had. What was that all about? Burning buildings, people screaming in terrors, and... That strange flying silhouette. What could it all mean?

Maybe it's just a nightmare, that I'm overthinking it. Yeah, that's it, I'm sure I must have had that dream because of all the sea waters that I just drank during my long voyage to Greece.

I freshen up near the edge of the spring, drinking pure water at last. And taking a little bath. Man, I love springs, that's one of the things I realize what I like.

After making sure I did everything (Especially a little go time because, when you gotta go you gotta go, right?) and it's safe to say I already did everything. And now it's time for me to meet Deacon again.

I went back to the place where we had just camped and Deacon was already there, with his bag and... Armors, woah....

"Ready?" He ask.

I neigh softly and let him mount me, and with that - we took to the sky together, this is probably the first time I let someone ride me. A human on that. I wonder if there will be other humans who will do the same thing to me? I guess, only time will tell.

~~~
We've been up in the sky for 50 minutes and the kid isn't afraid at all, he kept yelling weird things like 'For the glory of Sparta!' and 'Taste my fury, you barbaric enemy!'
Sometimes I wonder if I should get him a kid therapist, but then again; Sparta does raise their kids like that - deacon said. So technically this behavior isn't so weird at all. But to me it is.
"Thanks for all of this Mr. Horse, but I think it's time I give you a name since we are friends."
A name? He's going to give me a name? I-I don't know why but deep down feel so happy and excited at the same time, oh boy - a name.
"Let's see, hmm... I know! Seeing the blue sky up here, I think the perfect name for you will be... Sky!" He declared really loud.
Sky... I like that, it sounds like it really suits me. And I do love flying in the sky so yeah - sounds great. From now on my name is Sky, now Deacon can stop calling me Mr Horse because - it's weird and I'm not that old. But the great part, is that I don't have to worry about having an identity crisis.
But sometimes I do wonder why I don't give myself a name from the beginning... Oh well.
As we flew, I noticed bellow a different city seems to be celebrating something. I can hear cheers and laughter and music down there, it really sounds like a party.
Deacon didn't failed to noticed my focus was shifted to somewhere else.
"Hey Sky, are you interested in that city?" Deacon look bellow and gasp. "Woah, that must be Argos."
Argos? I'm not familiar with that city? Of course not, i'm not familiar with any city in Greece. I've got to read some books about this kind of things.
"Argos is a pretty popular city, did you know; Argos was a powerful rival of Sparta for dominance over the Peloponnese, but eventually got shunned by other Greek city-states after remaining neutral during the Greco-Persian Wars. But hey, I heard they managed somehow and look. They're even holding a celebration in honor of their new king, I can tell because I can see so many people lining themselves at the castle." Deacon pointed out.
New King? Who?
"If I recall, I heard from a visitor from Argos in Sparta not too long ago said that their new king is called... Perseus."
What?! Perseus?! Are you serious?
"Though I heard he's actually the true heir to the city but due to some family issues, it took him a long time to get the throne. Weird huh? Guess I'm not the only one with family issues." He laugh to himself.
Perseus... So let me get this straight, what Deacon is saying is the one who killed my mother is now the new king of a city?
